This Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) demonstrated exactly why it's a master of the shoreline, landing a lightning-fast strike to secure a mid-morning meal. The sharp focus in its golden eye says it all. Against the calm blue of the bay, it was a perfect display of nature’s hunter-gatherer at work.
