Sunset at Morton's Overlook in the Great Smoky Mountains. I have made countless attempts at getting a shot like this over the last 10 years, and it has never worked out. This past weekend, I finally got one.

My very first lightning bolt shot EVER, after years of trying and getting nothing but a little flash of light but always missing the bolt! i took this hand held along with 2 others, while resting my elbows on the railing of Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head, NC. i was on my way home from my daughters when i saw the lightning bolts heading east over the water as i was taking some shots of a break in the clouds over the sound after coming off the causeway. I decided at the last moment to head to the pier and sure enough, the bolts were coming down behind the pier. i knew if i went onto the pier i stood half a chance of getting a shot as long as i was patient.
i think i was there about 15 minutes watching to see if there would be actual bolts or if it was more a heat lightning type storm...and sure enough...bolts began flinging into the ocean! (there were idiots swimming and sitting on the beach!!! REALLY people??? How dumb can you be!!!?) i parked myself along the rail under cover of the building and waited...and was rewarded.
Did i mention how excited i was to get lightning bolt shots!!? i am totally beyond excited! Another thing off my bucket list, and it was not as horrendously difficult as i was making it all this time!!!
Happy Wednesday...enjoy that downward slide to the weekend!!

"Hunter's Persistence: In the midst of a rainy day, a determined great egret diligently scans the damp shores, in search of a hidden treasure. Its keen eyes pierce through the mist, focused on unearthing a hidden worm, showcasing the unwavering persistence of nature's skilled hunter."

In the province of Verona, not far from the famous Lago di Garda, hanging from the rocks of Monte Baldo and overlooking the valley of the River Adige, we can find one of the most impressive Christian sanctuaries in all of Europe. Known today as the "Santuario Madonna della Corona", this building has superbly survived the pass of the centuries, despite its delicate location.
Although the current appearance of the architectural complex is due, in large part, to a fantastic restoration that took place in the 1970s, already in the 13th century a monastery of hermit monks existed in this place. The arrival of more and more pilgrims to this secluded and quiet place, led to the completion in 1530 of the first church, on which the current one stands.
The serene beauty of the sanctuary site increases even more at dawn, when the sunlight reaches the cliff, giving the scene warm pinkish tones. Without a doubt, a wonderful place to contemplate and photograph the harmony that sometimes arises between nature and human constructions.

This week has been pretty great. I had a lot of extra free time this week to really go hard and get out to shoot. I've literally been out shooting every day/night since Sunday the 24th. The weather gods blessed the PNW with some great cloud formations and sunset colors alike.
This week I told myself I would try a different location every time I went out to shoot. Of course I went all out with weather maps and the TPE for sunset/moon times. But really I just looked at the sky and picked my spot. It just happened to work out every time I went out. I've said it before but the work I've put in seems to be finally paying off.
I'm buying a new computer and have been looking at the Apple with the 5k display. Any recommendations would be awesome!
"Persistence" - Exodus Fleet Mobile Construction Yard
Length: 105 studs
Number of parts: not a clue
This is where most vessels in the Exodus fleet are constructed and repaired. The mobile refinery supplies the construction yard with refined metal from nearby asteroids.
Currently a batch of fighters are loaded up for testing in the main hangar. In the mid ship construction dock a new Attack Frigate is under construction.
This is my SHIPtember SHIP for 2016. My goal was to use that big yellow Duplo part, and use some kind of lighting. The ship's interior is somewhat lit up by a EL-wire and the construction dock is lit by lifelites.
I've tweaked the home page and blog settings on my website over the weekend. Please drop by and, if you'd like to, comment on the latest post. www.longnorlandscapes.co.uk

As much as I rave about the big views in Bruce Peninsula, there really is so much more to find. I just love the Eastern white cedar that you can find gripping rock and cliff faces throughout the park. In fact, I believe the oldest tree in Ontario is an eastern white cedar within the park. I love the winding and rolling roots and trunks you find all over the barren rock. It's really quite pretty if you can pull your eyes away from the obvious views in the park.

Sabino Canyon, Arizona
It's pretty rare to find one of these desert denizens. As you can see, they blend in pretty well even when they're in the open. But I don't think they spend a lot of time in the open. When they crawl into a spot that is partially shaded or under a bush that casts a dappled shadow, as this one did shortly after this shot, they become virtually invisible. We've toured and hiked in many desert environments over the years, always hoping to catch a glimpse of a Gila Monster. During our trip to Southern Arizona this year, we saw TWO. One in Saguaro National Park and one in Sabino Canyon. Another case of persistence finally being rewarded.

Persistence of Time
For a few people time never flies. It never changes. Case in point is this brick factory worker.
She stands motionless, as the Salvador Dali painted stack of clouds whisk by her in a hurry, leaving her state unchanged. She has been destined to be a brick worker for her entire lifetime.
Persistence of Time indeed.
I guess you can call this natural re-vegitation. Given enough time the recovering powers in creation will re-claim what we lay aside.

NS 5343 sits in the siding in Manhattan with the BH45. For the past few days I tried going down here after night class to see if there would be anything sitting over here, and each time I had no luck. But with ATCS and a little bit of caffeine, I was able to watch this guy late at night get a lineup across CP Ridge and south on the Wabash, allowing me to drive down the next morning and have it sitting here waiting for me. 6/24/16
