Goats and sheep have the strangest rectangular pupils in their eyes and this spring lamb is no exception. It's a bit unnerving when one looks you straight in the eye. I had no idea why but apparently, they have much winder peripheral vision then creatures with round pupils. That's handy, I suppose, when you are the one on the menu for any predators lurking nearby.

More peripheral signage.

Today my group ran our experiments for our final project for Advanced Human-Computer Interaction. We were in the lab for over 8 hours running tests on our very gracious (and often bribed) subjects every 20 minutes. This is one of our setups, where we tested a peripheral explicit display. We monitored the subject's heart rate as they played minesweeper.

PD Series, POS Peripheral Dock, a modular formation of LCD TFT monitor and customer display build on at the appealing, steady and sturdy dock which answers the emerging tendency of transforming regular PC to become POS machine due to cost or powerful PC performance point of concerns. The stylish, exquisite die-cast aluminum dock equips with three well-thought-out openings which allow peripheral cables travel tidily across dock. It also provides steady, no wobbling operation even the touch monitor in use. In addition, magnetic card reader or 40-key keypad integrated TFT/LCDmonitor are optional.

Actually, when you started this group, I had just cleaned off the desk, but I see pieces of paper invading again. Despite the computers, we live in a paper world now. It drives one crazy! So many people soliciting you to take this credit card or join that book club or........

Hey.... this is a good topic for discussion. Almost all of that paper stuff ends up either on your desk of filed in the circular file.

The guard that he is performing is called posta di donna, the woman's guard of which there are variations. It's one of the twelve main longsword guards in Fiore dei Liberi's late 14th century martial arts manual Fior di Battaglia or The Flower of Battle. The front elbow is tucked in to prevent a target of opportunity, the back elbow is somewhat tucked in as well to preserve efficient biomechanics, and the blade is resting on the back with the point roughly entering the left peripheral vision if the right hand is dominant as seen here.

It is a stable guard that can be held for a while and can mark the beginning and an end of a transition as well as a transitional phase. At the same time it deceives because it hides the measure of the blade and can transition to many various combinations of cuts and thrusts and into other guards.

This is also aided by which foot the body weight is concentrated at. One major disadvantage of posta di donna that won't be found in any of the historical manuals is that the blade tends to get caught under some modern fencing masks.

Thanks to all the previous students who have helped us get small glimpses of “seeing the elephant” at Lonin.

The Arty Z7 is a ready-to-use development platform designed around the Zynq-7000™ All Programmable System-on-Chip (AP SoC) from Xilinx. The Zynq-7000 architecture tightly integrates a dual-core, 650 MHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor with Xilinx 7-series Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) logic. This pairing grants the ability to surround a powerful processor with a unique set of software defined peripherals and controllers, tailored by you for whatever application is being conquered. The design process is very straightforward and provides a systematic path between defining your custom peripheral set and bringing it's functionality up to a Linux OS running on the processor. Digilent provides a number of materials and resources for the Arty Z7 that will get you up and running with this process quickly.

A peripheral streak image of a Russian doll rotated 360°. Time is on the horizontal axis - a photo was taken every 10 secs for 2 hours, which equals a rotation of 0.5° per shot for my turntable. The central 1 pixel vertical column was then copied from each photo and stacked left-to-right in a new document to form the streak image.

This streak image is like the Russian doll has been unraveled, like a label from a tinned can.

If the strips are taken as rows, cutting across the doll parallel to the rotation movement, then many new streak images can be made and assembled into a horizontal streak movie.

A short tutorial of sorts is here on Flickr, as a test of the new video facility.
