On Saturday 23rd February, both of the LubutoDrama groups met for the first time at Ngwerere Lubuto Library (NLL), and each performed a play for the assembled audience. Both groups have been working hard to improve their plays (the story of Rosa Parks and the traditional story of The Elephant and the Goat) since they were first shown at their home libraries a couple of weeks ago, and the performances were very polished with lots of audience participation and a party atmosphere. There were a few opportunities for everyone in the audience to get up and dance, and the crowd of onlookers steadily grew despite the inclement conditions! It was obviously as wonderful an experience for all of the audience members who came to watch, as it was for those performing.
This is Andy, our experienced river guide, joke-teller, moose beckoner, loon caller supreme, and popcorn performance artist. On the fire is the "Big Daddy Skillet", with cover on top, cooking popcorn over an open flame with tons of butter and a memorable, exuberant performance. If Andy's wild-eyed appearance looks slightly manic as he shouts and shakes the skillet to cook the popcorn, and if the blazing fire and primitive surroundings communicate a primeval feeling, then I captured it. Popcorn never tasted so good.
While the performance prohibits photography, the Dervish Evi did have a second sequence where we could take photographs.

The violin is only 2 inches high but looks like a double bass! This shot was taken in front of my TV using bounce flash.
