🌅 Sunsets at Garry Point Park are nothing short of magical—many locals consider it the best place in Richmond to watch the day melt into the Salish Sea.
🌇 Why It’s So Special
- Unobstructed Western Views: The park sits at the southwestern tip of Richmond, offering panoramic vistas across the water toward Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
- Golden Hour Glow: The wide-open sky and reflective shoreline create a canvas for brilliant oranges, purples, and fiery reds—especially in summer and early fall.
- Natural Seating: Driftwood logs and grassy knolls make for perfect sunset perches.
- Kite Silhouettes: The park’s breezy conditions often mean colorful kites dancing across the sky as the sun dips low.
Best Sunset Spots
- Head to the southwestern edge of the park near the Fishermen’s Memorial Needle for the most dramatic views.
- The West Dyke Trail, which connects Garry Point to Terra Nova Park, offers a 6 km shoreline stroll that lets you follow the sunset as it unfolds.
🍦 Sunset Pairings
- Grab fish and chips from Pajo’s or a scoop of pistachio gelato from Timothy’s in nearby Steveston Village—just a short walk away.
Garry Point sunsets are a soul-soothing experience.

Another trip down to the coast. Enjoying the sunset with lots of other photographers. I must have counted at least 10 tripods. Photographers total with phones and point & shoots I would say 30+ just in the area I was at which was next to Haystack.
Yesterday evening Mel and I decided to try and find a location to photograph the sunset on the day before the summer solstice. Initially we headed to Berwick upon Tweed but found the conditions fairly dull and uninspiring. There was a hint of brightness to the west and we decided to head in that direction. I remembered reading about a location near the Eildon Hills in Outdoor Photographer Magazine and so we headed to Bowdenmoor Reservoir which is located to the west of the hills.
The lighting on arrival wasn't too great but we decided to take a few shots and as the evening progressed the conditions improved, with some wonderful colour in the sky.
This is the first of a few shots I plan to upload of this location.

I couldn't resist shooting it, when walking on the wide pavement along the Marine Drive. The place was packed with "bigshots" of Mumbai on their regular evening run/walk.
After a perfect dive, surfacing to experience a perfect sunset. Liveaboard is not too far, on the left there. Got some air in my BC. Now just float and wait for a dinghy to come pick you up. That's life! What could be better?
When you think of the perfect sunset, this should spring to mind, no filter no edit no anything, the sky in France seemed much nicer...
I turned the corner and then there was this! It seems everyone on Flickr has a perfect sunset shot on a beach. Well, I didn't have one until now. It actually surprised me because it was so pretty, and I found myself thinking, "did I save someone else's pic, or something?" It's just the perfect stretch of beach and I had a very lucky moment!
From my Ponce Inlet set.

On Cannon AFB in NM. The snow was just beautiful. It's starting to melt now.
If you look at the photo "large" you can see the red reflecting in the ice in the tree. Sorta cool!

A river otter was splashing around creating ripples in the water until one of the many clicks from my camera scared him off.

It was one of the nicer sunrises we have had here lately. A bit cooler this morning too!! Fall is coming...but our leaves here in FL never change.
