1975 Ford Pinto Not Yet in Flames - Pentax IQZoom 115 - Ultramax 400
1975 Ford Pinto Not Yet in Flames
Redondo Beach, Los Angeles County, California
Last Saturday I surprised to see this bright orange 1975 Ford Pinto parked on the street that had not yet been rightfully relegated to the junk heap or gone up in flames. This dilapidated rusting relic from the quality low point of the American automotive industry had expired Illinois plates. Interestingly when I was doing a bit of research to date this heap I discovered a photo of this exact car from Gurnee, Illinois in 2008.
I took some shots of this with my Fuji GS645S and Nikon N55 since this was the first test roll of film though this camera and I had no idea yet if it worked. I am quite pleased with the results from my Thrift Store Pentax.

A compact zoom camera I took backpacking in Europe. It was about 3 years old by then, and died on me somewhere in France. We ended up buying a cheap compact to tide us over.
After the trip, I managed to get it repaired in Kuala Lumpur, but it wasn't quite the same. The zoom is loud and noisy.
It was one of the first cameras with a wireless infrared remote!
It was also a Pentax 75 Years Special Edition.
References:
I just picked up this Pentax IQZoom 115 (Espio 115) with case at a local thrift shop today. I took this photo inside the shop before I purchased the camera. They had quite a few cameras, but must were junk, and more expensive as well.
This camera is also known as a Pentax Espio 115 and has a dedicated flickr group.
The zoom lens has 9 elements in 7 groups: 38-115mm f/4.0-8.8
It used infrared focusing; 0.65m (2.1ft) - ∞ @ 38mm, 0.85m (2.8 ft) - ∞ @ 115mm
It has a super macro mode that only works with iso 100 to 400 film. It is set for a fixed distance 0.45m (1.5 ft.) and there is are stops on the strap to measure the distance.
It has a button for forced infinity focus, a nice feature since most IR focus point and shoots struggle with distant objects.
It has a diopter adjustment on the viewfinder.
It can use DX encoded film from ISO 25 to ISO 3200
Automatic shutter speeds are 1/400s to 1/5s. It allows bulb exposures up to 10 minutes. It also allows multiple exposures.
It is in good shape, the lens looks great, and it seems to work. I have a test roll of Kodak Ultramax 400 in it now.

Inscription on the Plaque: For many years, this statue stood in front of and was a trademark for the world renowned Helms Bakery on Venice Boulevard in Los Angeles. On October 6, 1971, it was generously donated to the Marina by the Helms family. In 1975, through the generosity of the Marina's Yacht clubs it was provided with a new helm.
The Helmsman is an approximately 10’ high painted cast concrete figure made in the 1930s.

While in Ottawa for Thanksgiving, I stumbled upon a Pentax Espio 115 (film camera) at Value Village (a Canadian thrift store chain) for $4.00!
Having never owned a Pentax camera before, I jumped on it. It's missing its remote control, but it has a timer, so it's okay.
I didn't have the instruction book, so most of the pics on the roll ended up poop, but a few came out okay.
I found the instruction manual online and printed them out, so hopefully all subsequent shots will be good ones!
The dollies are Ddung fakies from Dollarama - $1.00 each! They were called "Petite Divas." The dresses that they were wearing were cheap and icky, so I knitted them a couple little frocks. I think they look pretty cute!
