Graphite on paper. Aquatint project.

I decided it was time to draw a man for a change, but any similarities to Tim are purely coincidental! I copied this man from a Google image, but the hair looked a bit like Tim's!

The Little Yorkshire Candle Shop. Almost done, just a bit more work on the road and a general over view of all the tonal values, then it will be time to ask my Critical Friend if it is finished. Drawn with a Staedtler 0.3mm pencil on A4 cartridge paper sketchpad, my own references.

The Clock House at Little Eaton, is one of only two original building's still standing on the Derby Canal Co's former Little Eaton branch.

Possibly a Wharf or Gangway Managers house, it is situated opposite the Outram Yard Crane and the New Inn, that featured in my Coal Wharf drawing, these days it is still a private residence, but rather buried amid modern industrial buildings, that sprang up once the canal had been filled in, and easily missed unless you know where to look amid the later premises. In the background, stands the railway Goods Shed, that accompanied the Midland Railway's Ripley branch, which superceded the Gangway, and ultimately causing the canal's decline. Ironically it self being abandoned in the late 1980's.

No 18 in the Derby Canal Series. Period photographs have been referenced.

Backs are lovely to draw and they give me a chance to practice drawing hair too!

"The Perspective - Greg Metzler", graphite and ink on drawing board,

16.25" x 19.5"

This photograph is of me holding*** my recently finished drawing "The Perspective (Greg Metzler)".

Greg Metzler is a friend who is a marvelous photographer: mainly of nature, but other subjects as far a field as roller derby. He is a long time cancer survivor and a proven friend in time of need. For me the image is reminiscent of the nature/park settings of paintings by Watteau, such as one also titled The Perspective. The title of the my drawing nods to that painting by Watteau, although it goes in quite a different directions here.

*** I'm posting this image of me holding the drawing to help give a sense of it's scale.

From my current Voice & Site drawing project.

We are currently enjoying the BBC's Detectorists, starting Mackenzie Crook at the moment. Here is my drawing of the talented actor and writer.

Paul James "Mackenzie" Crook (born 29 September 1971) is an English actor, comedian, director and writer. He played Gareth Keenan in The Office, Ragetti in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, Orell in the HBO series Game of Thrones, and the title role of Worzel Gummidge. He is also the creator and star of BBC Four's Detectorists (2014–2022), for which he won two BAFTA awards.

I have still been drawing most weekdays, although I haven't shared much lately. I have about 3 pictures on the go and if I feel in the mood I tweak them a little. But you can only tweak so much! I'll leave this one now!!

Pencil drawing on A4 Bristol board.

After a summer of Covid-19 and other distractions I think I am finally able to concentrate on a new study. It took a while to decide what to draw and then I had to dig out several older references to get the information needed to proceed. I am clearly out of practice. Still, the first couple of hours of rendering have gone quite well. Drawn with a Staedtler Graphite 0.3mm pencil and Tombow Mono Zero eraser in an A4 sketchbook.
