This photo beautifully captures a classic Swedish countryside scene. In the foreground, wildflowers and tall grasses sway gently, adding a splash of color and texture. A traditional red barn sits nestled among green fields, standing out against the expansive landscape. The sky above is dramatic, filled with layers of thick, rolling clouds that hint at changing weather. The overall mood is peaceful and inviting, perfectly showcasing the charm and tranquility of rural Sweden.

One of the beautiful Greek Ionian Islands

Golden hues, a masterpiece in whole,

Painted skies, a tranquil, fiery scroll.

Nature’s brushstroke, vivid and untold,

A fleeting wonder, a treasure of gold.

The sun sinks low, its journey near done,

Casting its glow on everyone.

Shadows lengthen, they softly creep,

As twilight lulls the world to sleep.

Mountains bask in the amber light,

Fields are kissed by the glow of night.

Rivers shimmer, their currents ablaze,

Reflecting the heavens in a fiery haze.

The trees stand still, their silhouettes clear,

Bathed in warmth as the end draws near.

Birdsong fades, replaced by calm,

A hush that feels like nature's psalm.

Golden hour, brief and rare,

A sacred gift for those who care.

To pause, to watch, to truly see,

The magic of life, so wild and free.

And as the sun slips out of view,

Night emerges, cloaked in dew.

But the memory lingers, the moment stays,

A radiant echo of golden days.

Finally a fresh beautiful day with a northwest breeze, much lower humidity and temperatures! It's been a wild ride with severe storms, wind and hail on both sides of us this weekend!

Our week forward looks quite pleasant for the end of July. The wild flowers are now in full bloom.

They say: Nature’s beauty has healing powers! Well, this spot surely does. Mahé Island, Seychelles.

If the green left the grass on the other side

(I would make like a tree and leave)

But if I reached for your hand

Would your eyes get wide?

(Who knew the other side could be so green?)

Here, at twilight’s edge, the world softens. The chaos fades. What remains is pure—just the sea, the sky, and the stillness in between. It’s in this fading light that nature reveals its most tender truth: even in parting, there is peace.

By the end of everyday, birds head to their nests whether in groups or alone, like this one here, but they all go home.

Nothing’s like going home…Nothing.

I would like to invite guitar lovers in particular, and music lovers in general, to listen to Mark Knopfler’s legendary piece ‘Going Home’ in a new special recording:

About the attached masterpiece:

Mark Knopfler's new special recording of his anthemic 'Going Home (Theme From Local Hero), produced by his longtime collaborator Guy Fletcher (who has edited the contributions into a 9 minute piece), features an unprecedented line-up of some of the greatest guitarists in history. 'Legendary' does not begin to cover it - David Gilmour to Ronnie Wood, Slash to Eric Clapton, Sting to Joan Armatrading, Bruce Springsteen to Pete Townshend, Nile Rodgers to Joan Jett, Brian May to Tony lommi, Joe Walsh, Sam Fender and many more jaw dropping names.

And, in a great honour, the track opens with Jeff Beck's final recording.

Roger Daltrey, Teenage Cancer Trust's Honorary Patron and co-founder of Teen Cancer America (with Pete Townshend), added harmonica, and Beatles icon Ringo Starr is on drums along with his son Zak Starkey, their two drum tracks switching from one to the other, revealing an unmistakable family style. Sting completes an extraordinary rhythm section on bass.

With artwork designed by Sir Peter Blake (The Beatles, The Who, Band Aid, Paul Weller etc), this release is a landmark in rock music history.

5:54 pm, the sun hangs low, glowing through the haze. Tree branches stretch across the frame, breaking up the soft orange light. There's a quiet cityscape behind it all—power lines, buildings, the usual urban touch. What I couldn't get to work with this shot when uploading to Flickr were the crushed blacks. Not the best, but I like the shot, so here it is.

After visiting the awe-inspiring David Gareja Monastery complex — with its rock-hewn chapels and monastic caves carved deep into sandstone cliffs — we continued our journey toward the Natlismtsemeli Monastery, a solitary site nestled in the semi-desert borderlands of eastern Georgia. What followed was no ordinary drive, but a true off-road adventure through a vast world of silence, rolling hills, and endless golden emptiness. The landscape between Udabno and Natlismtsemeli is dry, expansive, and nearly devoid of human presence. The track — barely more than two dusty tire paths — winds its way over grassy ridges, with little to guide you other than the open horizon. Driving a Toyota RAV4, we managed most of the route without issue, but as we neared our destination, the terrain grew increasingly rough. Deep ruts, loose rocks, muddy sections, and steep climbs made for a challenging ride. Especially on the final stretch toward the monastery, the route becomes truly rugged and unpredictable. A proper high-clearance 4x4 with solid suspension would be much better suited for this road. And yet, it was this very difficulty that made the experience so memorable. Each turn revealed new views over the desolate hills, framed by dramatic skies and complete silence. Occasionally, a bird of prey could be seen gliding across the sky — as if even nature paused here in reverence. The Natlismtsemeli Monastery, dedicated to John the Baptist - the Bringer of Light, is less visited than David Gareja but equally atmospheric. Its isolation, simplicity, and the surrounding emptiness create a deep sense of peace — a powerful final destination for a journey through one of Georgia’s most haunting landscapes.

Driving from David Gareja to Natlismtsemeli Monastery leads you through one of Georgia’s most remote and dramatic landscapes. The rough track winds through golden grasslands and open valleys, where silence stretches as far as the eye can see. Clouds roll low over the hills, adding weight to the vast emptiness. A lonely road carved into the wilderness. This path leads toward the cliffside monastery of Natlismtsemeli, hidden from view but steeped in centuries of quiet devotion.

“I hope everyone enjoys life as much as possible and stays away from everything that disturbs it.”

🇬🇧 On the banks of the Saône River, Île Barbe reveals its timeless charm. This peaceful scene, bathed in intense summer light, showcases the island's architectural beauty between lush nature and preserved heritage. The long exposure softens the river’s flow, adding a poetic touch.

An old boat rests in the shade, tied to a tree like to a final memory. The water, a murky mirror, reflects an inverted world where time seems frozen. Between soft light and silent vegetation, this scene tells the slow fading of forgotten things.

The sun slowly rises from the horizon and the ocean, the sky is clear. A sign of a wonderful day is coming...

A warm, golden glow blankets the rolling grasslands of Cornwall Park, leading the eye toward the iconic One Tree Hill in the distance.

In the vast, arid landscape of eastern Georgia, near the border with Azerbaijan, lies the ancient David Gareja Monastery complex. Carved directly into sandstone cliffs, the site is home to dozens of rock-cut cells, chapels, and passageways — silent witnesses to over fourteen centuries of monastic devotion. One of the most striking features is the stone tower perched high on a rocky outcrop, standing alone and overlooking the desolate terrain. This modest structure, built from irregular stone blocks, served as a watchtower. From here, monks could survey the surrounding area and detect approaching threats. During times of danger — from Mongol invasions to Persian raids — the height offered a strategic advantage, not for counterattack, but for protection, prayer, and preparation. Just below the tower, the entrances to ancient monastic caves are still visible, once inhabited by hermits who withdrew from worldly life to live in spiritual isolation. This combination of rugged nature and human humility makes David Gareja a truly unique place. Yet it’s not only history that lives on here — the natural world remains ever-present. The windswept ridges and rocky solitude attract numerous birds of prey. Hikers in the area often spot golden eagles soaring overhead, or short-toed snake eagles gliding low across the plains. Buzzards, falcons, and even vultures are also seen in the Kakheti and Kartli regions. The tower at David Gareja is more than just a remnant of Georgia’s Christian heritage — it stands as a symbol of stillness, vigilance, and deep connection to the landscape. A place where time, faith, and nature converge.

The tower symbolizes solitude, vigilance, and spiritual retreat — a silent witness to centuries of devotion. Carved into the harsh rockscape, it stands isolated yet firmly rooted in the landscape. In the upper right, a bird of prey glides effortlessly through the sky, embodying the wild spirit of this remote region. Its presence feels natural, even inevitable, in a place shaped by silence and wind. The architecture does not dominate but blends with the earth, shaped as much by necessity as by faith. The scene is a powerful example of how human presence and nature can exist in balance, each amplifying the other’s beauty.

A sweeping view from the ridge-top Carlsbad Caverns Visitor Center in southeastern New Mexico. Perched at the edge of the Guadalupe Mountains, this overlook reveals the vast Chihuahuan Desert stretching toward the horizon. Wisps of high-altitude clouds drift above the open plains, echoing the stillness and scale of this rugged desert landscape.

Would you cross a bridge into the unknown?

As the sun dips below the distant mountains, the Namibian sky ignites in a breathtaking display of golden hues. Clouds catch the last rays of light, creating a dramatic and serene moment in the vast desert landscape.

Sighnaghi, located in Georgia’s wine region of Kakheti, is known as the “City of Love” for its romantic atmosphere, colorful houses, and breathtaking views over the Alazani Valley and the distant Caucasus Mountains. The town is surrounded by centuries-old defensive walls with watchtowers, built in the 18th century by King Erekle II to protect it from invasions. Today, it’s a lively destination with charming cobbled streets, traditional restaurants, and a rich winemaking culture that goes back more than 8,000 years. In this photo, you see a quintessential view of Sighnaghi: picturesque houses with red rooftops, elegant wooden balconies, and the distinctive church towers rising in the distance. In the foreground, bright flowers and ivy add warmth and color, blending beautifully with the historic charm of the town. This serene moment was captured early in the morning at our Abramichi Guest House. The town is still quiet, and a delicious breakfast awaits on the terrace above, overlooking this postcard-perfect scenery.

In the early morning light, Sighnaghi reveals its charm with the St. Stephen church towers, red rooftops, and lush gardens. From the peaceful garden of Abramichi Guest House, breakfast awaits on the terrace above, offering a serene start in Georgia’s romantic City of Love.

Kirkjufell appears as a dominant vision before you as you drive on route 54 towards the north coast of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. In an almost perfect cylinder form, Kirkjufell is attached to the peninsula by a stretch of land on its south side. You can appreciate the mountain view from three directions on land but north, as it’s facing out to the sea. There is one way to see this side from the north, though - kayaking under Mt. Kirkjufell, a two-hour mesmerizing experience cruising alongside one the most majestic mountain in Iceland.

The formation of Kirkjufell mountain is a dramatic act taking place over millions of years - ever since the last phase of the Ice Age- by glacial erosion in Iceland. As you can see clearly in the photo below, the mountain is very steep in all directions and layers of rocks are clearly visible from the bottom to the top. This was formed due to a unique natural phenomenon in Iceland named “nunatak.” In fact, it’s a Greenlandic Inuit word referring to a high rock pointing out of glaciers. Essentially it’s an exposed peak that’s not covered by ice, and it also called the glacial island.
