In the early years of Conrai, before they started rationalizing more tracks and changing operations, they continued to run a turn from the former Pennsy South Akron Yard to Motor Yard southeast of Cleveland. It was called AMA and typically returned in the afternoon and usually had a quartet of F's. Here it is at the local hangout, South St, where the EL was tied into the PC (B&O) to bypass the west end of the EL. today, the track they're on which ws originally the CA&C is gone, and the EL mains are gone, Motor Yard is gone. Just the 2 CSX mains remain.
PC U30B 2866 leads a Westbound Conrail freight at the station in Hornell, NY in August, 1977. This was my first visit to Hornell, and the action was non-stop between the CR and D&H trains. I was shooting Kodacolor print film with the old Graphlex camera. Quality is not the best, but you certainly can't get anything like this today, so I appreciate the images I have. The 2nd unit is the only GP35 that I am aware of to wear the Reading green scheme that was on the Reading GP39-2's and GP40-2's.
On June 5, 1977 my high school class held the senior picnic at Letchworth State Park. That meant I would be able to go hang out around the Portage Bridge, I could have cared less about the picnic, although we did go back and forth from the picnic to the bridge a couple times. PC U33B 2858 leads a Westbound as it approaches the Westbound signal at the end of double track just before the Portage Bridge. As I recall I scored 7 trains on film that day.
Another look at Penn Central's train #53 at the Massillon train station on a dreary day in late December 1969. Unlike most train stations in smaller cities, this one still stands and is in use. After no longer needed by the railroad, it has been an industrial hardware warehouse and is not an exotic artistic plant retail store (legal decorative plants, not where some of your minds went). Pretty good for a station built in 1870!

An attempt at HDR...

I got nothing on this weeks SNS, no location and no photographer to credit. I barely have a legible date, looks like May 1975 on the faded Kodak date stamp. A couple of rare units parked behind the CR shops in Altoona, PA on May 27, 1978. PC 2855 is a U30B with the large PC herald applied to the nose that should have been on its flank. The 1264 is a rare EL GP9. The EL had many GP7's, but only 6 GP9's, all of Erie heritage. Looks like it is suffering from a bent frame. The NYC heritage of the 2855 is obvious.
