Stephanus du Welvenwarden is one of the two main pillars of my story – as the God of Hate he was one of the seven gods first created after Silmä itself started to exist. He and the Goddess of Cruelty soon started on their attempt to eliminate the Council of Gods in a misguided attempt at world domination. They get executed for this act of high treason, beheaded, burned and their ashes spread into every available direction. Which would have been the end of the whole shebang but the seven beings/creators/psychopomps who created Silmä and the gods are still there and being number seven, creator of both Hate an Cruelty is not a happy little camper about his creations destruction and also in charge of rebirth. So a few centuries later he takes his change to give Hate a new chance.

 

Rebirth is actually a fickle thing, a reborn person is not solely the person reborn, s/he is also simultaneously the person they were supposed to be before rebirth stuck its head into the whole mess. It also comes with the bonus of not having access to all memories of the previous life you’ve led so have fun on figuring that out. Maybe.

 

So Stephanus reborn is both Stephanus as he was and something new. Stephanus reborn is more distant and focused that his old persona, still with the same agenda but with a new approach.

During said ‘approach’ (that involves a lot more travelling and science than the last version cause the guy can learn of his mistakes) he meets a lot of people, allies and enemies alike, gets married (Khaled), has a sort-of-break-up and during that break he tackles the task to upend the Council once again - with the help the seventh being he brings back Pazuzu, the Goddess of Cruelty. Only this time as his daughter which does spark some issues in the "congrats we were once married and I do have vivid memories of fucking you seven ways into next week but now you are my daughter and I really, really need a drink right now"-department. In the deadly duo of him and Pazuzu he’s the brain of the operation (Pazuzu is most decidedly the brawn) and the one to hash out the details. Pazuzu just… hits things, yells at things and is a shining example of teenaged righteousness well into her adult life. Stephanus refuses all blame.

The only one to (belatedly) try to get Pazuzu to behave is Khaled after he came back to Stephanus though that particular project isn’t really taking off well. But hey, he tries. Especially considering that he is trying to get some sort of control over what was basically his husband’s wife. In a former life but still.*

 

You see, everyone is well adjusted and totally cool about the fact that the rebirth of both Hate and Cruelty is heralding the end of the world.

 

(*I have an unfortunate love for crazy family relations so uh… this is harmless since I spare you the detailed explanation which would need a PowerPoint presentation, a flipchart and lots of alcoholic beverages. Probably, I never tried to explain it en detail to anyone yet.)

Now with all the character babble you were all waiting to hear, right? *crickets chirping*

 

The elves were one of the first race to develop something worth being called 'culture' - which did suffer in the first war of the gods. After the defeat of Stephanus and Pazuzu the effort of rebuilding the destruction were making a lot of progress and at the point of Pazuzu's rebirth, it was nearly at the same point they had been before the whole hubbub.

Unfortunately Pazuzu's efforts take two at getting rid of the Council of Gods* left the elven race a bit steamrolled in its wake. Generally the elves reaction to Pazuzu is a raised middle finger and some choice curse words.

 

Traditionally the elves fight on the side of the Council, cooperating mostly with the centaurs. At the point of the storyline my doll family represents for the most part, the elves are reduced to a life as nomads, living in cities of the demons or simply in the woods as most of their former empire is dust and ruins.

 

Ælfnod himself had been born after the first war and has seen his race rebuild itself to its former glory, only to have it all go down the drain again. He is loyal to a fault to the Council and willing to fiht for them until the end.

Unofficial best friend of Rhys because they can commiserate with each other.

 

(*It is quite hilarious, I finally started to type the whole story out last November and it really is a case of Pazuzu and Stephanus being the most awkward elephants in the china shop and effectively leaving a world that worked moderately well in a state of constant depression, an economy that is more than dead and we won’t even touch what they did to established trade relationships… good job you two!)

Europe, Greece, Peleponnesos, Agrolida, Mycenae (Mykinis), Lions' gate, Grave circle a (uncut)

 

In the Argolida region there are many traces of the pre-historic (1550–1100 BC) and for the time very advanced Mycenaean civilization.

Argolida actually formed the core of it: a loose coalition of towns, some of them fortified, spaced around a fertile alluvial plane, connected through transportation infrastructure. These traces are all substantial – 4 acropoli (Mycenae itself is one of them), several burial grounds and ‘Tholos’ bee-hive graves, a dam, bridges and even short stretches of road. When you drive around the region you often encounter signs directing one to one or more of them.

 

Like most Mycenaean strongholds, Mycenae is located on a hill and consists of a palace with its spaces for civic and religious collective functions, storage facilities and artisan’s workshops and houses. They are enclosed by a big boulder ‘Cyclopean’ wall.

 

Displayed here is Lion’s gate, one of the main entrance to the ancient town, ‘grave circle A’ and of course the characteristic Cyclopean walls. Together with one of the four beehive graves, the Lion’s gate is the only part of Mycenae that was neither demolished nor covered with earth during its 33 centuries-long history. They were there in plain sight.

Archaeological excavation started in 1867 by Heinrich Schliemann and the beehive grave ( ‘the treasury”) was looted long before that. He dug up ‘grave circle a’ where he amongst other things, discovered shaft graves of people with a very high societal status. The rich set of artefacts they were was buried with (gold, jewellery, weapons) pointed to that. One of the things he found was a golden burial mask which made Schliemann write the classic but erroneous “I have gazed on the face of Agamemnon!”. Schliemann operated under the assumption that Homer’s Iliad was based upon historical facts (which it partly was) and thot that he discovered the grave of the warrior-king Agamemnon, one of the protagonists of the saga of Troy. Research later showed that the grave was 2 centuries too old to be of Agamemnon.

 

Schliemann spend 14 weeks digging up ‘grave circle a’ and he was succeeded by Christos Tsountas who spend 14 years excavating major parts of the palace, some houses and the subterranean cistern. After Tsountas the excavations came to a halt for twenty years. Nowadays there’s still a lot archaeological excavation work going on, within and outside the city walls.

Just like Stephanus, Pazuzu has lived once already, has once already tried to eliminate the Council and was executed to keep the balance.

Reborn Pazuzu grew up under the guidance of Eleanore of Aquitania, the merchant queen, and Eleanor’s girlfriend and gaggle of adopted children, thinking that Stephanus was the nice guy living next door with his wife who took in too many orphaned kids because they could not get their own. Where Stephanus had some of his previous life’s memories right from the beginning, Pazuzu was a blank slate – who got told on her 15th birthday that hey, Stephanus is both your father as well as your former husband and you are more or less destined to bring down the world as currently know. Now have a slice of cake dearest.

 

In contrary to her father she is heavily influenced by emotions and more often than not does not stop to think but instead charges head on into fights, kicking and screaming. Which is a formidable way to get a head start on one’s enemies cause a screeching mad woman coming at you in high speed does hold some surprise. She is fiercely protective of what she considers hers, she is loud mouthed and cruel, she can outdrink anyone and anything and where Stephanus the brain, she’s the brawn.

 

I admitted defeat and dressed the Serenadedoll body up cause srsly, I have her since April 2015, she got ONE picture in like July 2015 and since then her body is with Nezu for clothes* AND I MISS MY LEAD BITCH.

Stephanus also demands to be pitied for what he has to deal with - like his daughter sprawled over the piano. Shoo Pazuzu, this is not a prop for heaven's sake show some dignity!

Alyosha is Pazuzu’s fourth child and the first one she conceived to secure an alliance. See, her children are either born to secure an alliance in giving a valuable ally an heir (in which case the father knows about the child) or to gain access to a specific trait to create an new ally (in which case the father does not know he has a child with her until Pazuzu shows up eons later and is like “lol, dis is your son, you owe him like five million bucks in missed allowance plus interest so pay up”). Alyosha is the son of Hraban, an arms dealer. The lobby of arms dealers and warmongers is an important ally in Pazuzu’s quest of obliterating the Council of Gods due to the simple fact that war is their business. So she secures it with two children – Alyosha and Lucrezia (daughter of the warmonger Vonnegard).

   

I always say that Lucrezia was the first child to pack up and go, telling Pazuzu to never contact her again and leave her alone and out of her business but in fact, Alyosha was the first to go. He did not make a cut like Lucrezia, but he accepted to be the overseer over Pazuzu’s brothels (don’t judge, wars cost money and brothels are an easy way to make said money) and succeeded in getting himself established as Angelo, the Kronprinz, a nickname earned the kind of circles he frequented. He is the forgotten child cause everyone tends to forget that he does belong to the row of Pazuzu’s children (even she herself tends to forget but that shouldn’t surprise anyone of you after you read the rest of the stories, right? XD).

A game of kings and queens - Pazuzu is pretty good at chess, partially cause it appeals to her to capture (read: steal) other people's stuff 😂

 

I had a day that progressively went from okay to FML which was pretty unfortunate as it not only fell together with my birthday (which I hate anyway) but was also directly related to it so eh. Fuck this shit. Tomorrow is Eurovision which makes everything okay 🙏

Jeromé is acutely aware of all his shortcomings - including the whole murder and wanted criminal thing - but sometimes he questions if that warrants the whole amount of insanity he goes through as one of Pazuzu's minions 😂

I had the urge to photograph the three of Pazuzu's main minions I currently have and I wanted to use these jugs finally 🍺🍺🍺

You might remember that I usually have the rule that every doll of mine needs to be painted by a different artist. Which does mean that sometimes an artist is 'blocked' for a specific doll/character years before I get them. Case in point: @theugliestwife whom I wanted for a Pazoodle since ever 😂

This is Pazuzu's god form. And yes, Pazuzu is always a god, but technically a god's form is something that is a bit off in comparison to my regular dolls (take Grendel as a prime example, esp with her new body). Gods choose how they want to appear and sometimes switching it up is just the best (esp when it comes to a state of heightened emotions. In Pazuzu's case: being pissed off)

This head is also simultaneously the one for Pazuzu before she was reborn as the current version story wise cause hey, two birds, one stone and only one head 😂

They had buried Thyra’s body deep in the rotten soil of the outback where the earth was of a heavy black and smelled of death and decay. They had not marked her grave, they had not paid her the respect one paid the dead – they had just dug a hole and thrown her in, shoved the earth hastily back over her.

 

And there she lay.

 

It had been Pazuzu’s idea to pay her grandmother the last respect and give her a proper burial and Stephanus had agreed to this fool’s plan. They spend three days combing through the outback until they are reasonably sure that they found the right spot and then they start digging, deeper and deeper.

 

The avalanche of sheer malice that hits them after a while of digging is unexpected and knocks Pazuzu back on her ass, earth sticking to her like glue. The pale hand reaching out of the soil to grab her ankle make her screech and call up the earth to get rid of the appendage that claws at her. When Stephanus gets out his axe to take care of the whole thing by himself it’s him who gets thrown back.

 

And then she rises.

 

She is pale and tall, taller than she was in life, stretched out farther than possible and she towers swaying over them, her black hair floating around her like a veil. She is still beautiful and he can see his sisters facial features reflected in her face as she stares at him with eyes of blackness. Pazuzu spits out a curse he’d have wacked her for every other time but he is too mesmerized by the face of the woman he has never consciously seen before.

 

Over the white noise in his head he can hear his daughter curse about spirits and their annoying fixation and he hisses towards her “Attack me.” She flips him the bird but does as told, coming at him with full speed, only to be knocked back by Thyra who floats around him like smoke, still somewhat corporal and somehow not.

 

“Ah”, Pazuzu sighs and just keeps on laying where the hit threw her to: “I guess we know what her purpose is that powers her.” It’s a statement, not a question, so he ignores her in favor of mulling over the possibilities this opens up. “There should be a card for this occasion, you know”, his daughter rambles on “Like ‘sorry your wife can’t be reburied cause she turned evil spirit and is now fixated on protecting your son forever and always. Sorry about that, wasn’t our brightest idea we admit’. Like condolence cards, with a black border ‘cause-“

 

He shushes her with an impatient click of his tongue: “The soil here is rich of gemstones and precious metals…” – “oh my god, are you really going to do this? Like, just so that we don’t have to admit to your father straight away that we fucked this up?”, his daughter’s biggest fault has always been her big mouth so he keeps on ignoring her and kneels down to touch the rotten soil. Rich indeed, if tarnished but it should be enough.

 

Harnessing her isn’t his best work and if his old teacher could see his sloppy work he’d never hear the end of it but there is no time for finesse when they are due to be back within a few hours so he puts the amulet around his neck and hopes he can leave her there.

 

Right over his heart he can feel the faint pulse of his mother’s heart emanating from the amulet.

Thyra and her brother Tyr are twins born at the beginning of Silmä – Tyr became an officer under Pazuzu and Thyra was a seeress who soon after the First War of Gods became the head of the seer guild for her uncanny abilities to see the future more clearly than others. She married Stephanus the Older and had two children – Allegra and Stephanus the Younger.

 

She was held in high regards until she phrophesied the Gods a victory that did not came to pass. She was executed shortly thereafter and buried in the far out outback. Her husband was imprisoned (as he did not take kindly to his wife’s execution) and her son fostered off into an orphanage. Her daughter had by this time long left home and only learned of her mother’s death during a Council meeting.

 

It is the reborn Pazuzu that digs her carcass up again to give her a proper burial – only it turns out that enough of Thyra’s soul has clung to life to make her into a twisted version of her former self, a vengeful spirit. Spirits are driven by one thought that powers them which can be good or bad. Thyra is driven by the urge to protect her son, which, originally good, has turned bad over the years and her single minded focus on protection does not know friend from foe. With reburying her out of question, Pazuzu and Stephanus transfer her into a pendant that Stephanus wears around his neck on a chain, bending her will enough to control her.

 

Stephanus can call on Thyra in battle where she acts as a formidable shield.

 

So lol, I had plans to only debute her once she is painted but I am still visiting Ara and we had to try night time pictures so I dragged those two out (with Grendel's head playing stand-in for Thyra's)... where I promptly ruined the helmet's blushing and had both assholes fall over multiple times (on stone). Thanks Ara for forcing me to carry on despite it and finshing the pictures XD (and for fixing the blushing :*)

Lucrezia is the youngest of Pazuzu’s children and the most powerful from the get go, being born at a time where Pazuzu had reached her full potential already. Her physical description is actually ‘prettiest of them all’. I very nearly bought a Chloe for the job until I remembered that I am not that fond of Chloe… but the Halloween 2014 Event face came to the rescue cause she just looks perfect!

 

She is the only one of Pazuzu’s children to actually know her father during her childhood and have him doting on her like crazy. She also benefits from the fact that when she is born Khaled is back in Stephanus’ (and subsequently Pazuzu’s) life and he really is the only one qualified to raise a child. Might be why she is the first one to pack up her things and announce her intention to get the fuck away from her mother’s overall craziness and warmongering /ahem

 

(She comes back. They all come back cause Pazuzu is like a shining beacon of crazy everyone sooner or later finds back to.)

Mordecai, one of the three generals under Pazuzu's first reign - when she told them to hide until she called them again (and better have that part of my army I gave you!) he went back to his tribe of shapeshifting demons and essentially became a god himself. Hey, no one said religion would ever make sense!

.

However, being a servant to their gods involves a lot of blood, castration and a permanent shift to become a god. Which ended up with him in the form of a a wolf permanently. Clan elders blame it "on the gods' mysterious ways", Mordecai assumes someone royally butchered the ritual but okay. He served under Pazuzu, he's had worse.

.

He spends the ensuing eons as a god to his clan and tribe, living a pretty good life as a reverend sort of sage slash god until word of the new power of the "Lord and Lady" reaches him. Curious as ever he sends out some whippersnappers, who've been clamoring for new adventures anyway, to see the whole mess for themselves and report back.

.

He is less surprised to hear his old superiors being described to him when they come back. After all, she promised, didn't she? So the executive decision is made that this particular tribe shall join forces with Pazuzu and Stephanus.

.

Pazuzu is delighted to have him back, less delighted when she learns that he has no clue either howto get her army out of the statue because her old self never shared instructions and she can't remember.

Anyways, turns out that Khaled looks good in kimonos (yay, I have a doll which can wear them!) - so I went on a splurge and bought some more (gosh how I missed my random shopping sprees).

Iason is an elderly human male who had at some point annointed himself as "The Horned God" and amassed quite a fellowship. He bases his dioctrine on the fact that humans were created by the second being who allegedly created no god, thus meaning for their creation to take their fate into their own hands.

 

Image him as a sort of grandfather-ly persona who is totally supporting drug use for consciousness-expanding reasons and can outdrink everyone.

 

Whilst his intentions might have been based on the actual wish for change at first, he soon starts to milk his ever growing followers for all their worth, preaching his ideas and generally generating a huge mess for everyone involved. Which is when Pazuzu dedices to use this destructive force to her advantage and starts buttering up the endeavours with money and acual plans to get the Council distracted enough by this development to stop focusing on her agenda.

Nightingale has the same issue like Alyosha (if you now go "who the fuck is Alyosha!?", well that is precisely the problem) that is that I need him for Pazuzu's gaggle of children to be complete but he is less fleshed out than some secondary characters... so I tried to revert to an old rule that the elves (which he is, at least partially), have dragon blood in them. I kinda like the Taco horns on him even if I had to wipe a perfectly good airbrush job because that color was wrong xD

 

I also made that poncho! Which just has a loop collar cause that mean I could skip on properly finishing the neckline... ahaha /fail

In her first night back in her mother’s house, the nightmare begins anew. She sinks and sinks and her feet reach the floor… and for the first time the pressure is not burning her lungs, there is no feeling of them deflating, of the last breath leaving her unwilling lips. She opens her eyes, slowly.

She takes a deep breath, can feel the gills on her cheeks opening to filter the water and she pushes herself off the ocean floor, arms spreading as she ascends until the waters get lighter, until the fish get more and more colorful and she can feel her feet fusing together until she swims through the ocean, propelled forward by her tail fin, her hair flowing around her like a veil.

And she sees.

Iwalani is hard for me to figure out, mainly cause she is up with Nightingale and Alyosha in terms of "who are you even apart from Pazuzu's spawn"? Especially since getting her clothed and accessorized... ahhhh.

Though meeting up with tayma.leigh and getting one of her wrap bracelets as gift was at least the heureka-moment in terms of accessories - WRAP BRACELETS. Lots of them.

 

Also my investment of three bucks into a Barbie swimsuit has yielded the result that while cute, is not how I imagine her clothed. BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD!
