(But)...a lot of photographers think that if they buy a better camera they'll be able to take better photographs. A better camera won't do a thing for you if you don't have anything in your head or in your heart.

Reminiscent of childhood Sci-fi programs such as Space 1999, you can find these Floating Pavilions just beyond Wilhelminapier. I arrived just in time before the sun set on my last evening in Rotterdam.

From the Inhabitat website : "In an effort to address the challenges of climate change and sea level rise, the City of Rotterdam has started to build some intriguing floating structures. The first pilot project is a catalyst for climate change-proof architecture called the Floating Pavilion that consists of three connected hemispheres that look like bubbles anchored within the Dutch city’s old harbor. An initiative of Rotterdam Climate Proof (part of the Rotterdam Climate Initiative), the mixed-use pavilion was designed by Deltasync and PublicDomain Architects, and it sets an unprecedented example for innovative, sustainable and climate-proof architecture......
The shelter’s heating and air conditioning systems rely on solar energy and surface water and the systems are only used in areas of the structure where they are specifically required. The pavilion also purifies its own water to use in the toilets and whatever is left can be discharged back into the water with no negative impact."

A renowned Zen Buddhist temple with centuries of history, Rokuonji Temple is more widely known today as Kinkakuji Temple―a name derived from the famed Golden Pavilion (reliquary hall) that serves as the centerpiece of the temple grounds
One last photo of the amazing Royal Pavilion in Brighton, lit by the rising sun during a 'dawn raid' on August Bank Holiday Monday. Well worth getting out of bed for.......

From Wikipedia : "The Royal Pavilion, also known as the Brighton Pavilion, is a Grade I listed former royal residence located in Brighton, England. Beginning in 1787, it was built in three stages as a seaside retreat for George, Prince of Wales, who became the Prince Regent in 1811. It is built in the Indo-Saracenic style prevalent in India for most of the 19th century. The current appearance of the Pavilion, with its domes and minarets, is the work of architect John Nash, who extended the building starting in 1815."
"The purchase of the Royal Pavilion from Queen Victoria, by Brighton, marked the beginnings of the site's attraction as a tourist destination. The Royal Pavilion has been changed from a private residence to a public attraction under civic ownership. Today, around 400,000 people visit the Royal Pavilion annually. General filming and photography is not permitted inside the Royal Pavilion. Many of the items in the palace are on loan, in particular from HM The Queen, and one condition of the loans is that the items cannot be photographed or reproduced without prior written permission."

Part of the Field Hospital at the Poznań International Fair, where pulmonology and intensive care units are located.
The MTP Field Hospital is one of the many temporary hospitals created at the end of 2020 for patients with covid-19.
Just for a few minutes some lovely wind-blown clouds appeared, before fading away. IR, stitched panorama (shifted vertically).
Unlike the last few shots of the Royal Pavilion I've uploaded from further back, here I've gone in quite close to create some deliberate distortion. Both symmetrical and both taken with my 11mm Tokina wideangle, it's always interesting to see the effect a change of location can give.

Another simple image from last week, straight from camera, no editing. Its nice to have a spare DSLR now as i can take some shots like this while i leave my 600Da to do some deep sky imaging!
The image shows the constellation Orion and the Moon above a oak pavilion i built back in 2012. I also did some quick light painting with my headtorch to give it the red look. I did try for quite a while to get the Moon right above the top of the structure, but when i finally did it didnt look quite right.

The Floating Pavilion employs the crème de la crème of sustainable technology and is a showpiece for sustainable construction and design. It is heated and cooled using solar energy and surface water, its waste water is purified and reused and plants are used for insulation.

I captured the two images that make up this Vertorama on Thursday afternoon... at the entrance to the Sea Point Pavilion.
With spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Sea Point Pavilion is regarded by many as the most breathtakingly beautiful public swimming pool in the world. The Sea Point Pool complex consists of an Olympic size pool, plus 2 splash pools for kids, and a fully equipped springboard diving pool.
Nikon D300, Sigma 10-20 at 10mm, aperture of f14, and a 1/60th second exposure.

What a glorious day for our trip to Brighton, primarily to see the 'Snowdogs' but I took the opportunity to make a start on the Studio 26 panorama assignment. I've never tried one with a DSLR before and hadn't taken a tripod, knowing that we would be doing a lot of walking and wouldn't have much time for setting up shots - so this is a very quick, handheld, five frame vertical effort. Processed in PS Elements and Nik Color Efex. Definitely not perfect, but I'm quite pleased with how it has turned out.
I should have added a description of the pavilion last night but forgot, here it is for anyone interested, and a link to a more detailed history.

The Borommangalanusarani Pavilion was built within the compound of the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall, Bangkok and opened to the media on June, 6th 2016. A rare nine-spine golden pavilion, composed of metal alloy and marble, was built to mark the 70th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne this year and his 90th birthday in 2017.
