A few miles away from Orvieto, facing the rock of Orvieto, you find the Abbey of Saints Severo and Martirio (11th century), an old Benedictine monastery. The church has small but beautiful frescoes and a cosmati pavement.
Cosmati is a style of geometric decorative inlay stonework typical of Medieval Italy, and especially of Rome and its surroundings. It was used most extensively for the decoration of church floors.
The name derives from the Cosmati, the leading family workshop of marble craftsmen in Rome who created such geometrical decorations.

I built a simple packing algorithm built on the golden ration "sunflower spiral". New additions to the spiral arrive at the center and the other particles move to the nearest available packing point. The paths in these images show the 'rivers' that these particles flow down to get to the next available spot.
There's absolutely no randomness in here at all, so it was interesting to see the abstract patterns emerge.
Math!

Happy 2015!

I got a lot of old and hand drawn patterns of scrolls, rosepaintings and old Norwegian art style today, which have been used for making wallets and stuff in leather.. and I can defenetly use them again in motorcycle art... Several of them will also be perfect as pinstriping and goldleaf work.. :-)

Leftover on our lanai screen from yesterday's storm that blew out power for about 30,000 households in Tallahassee. Our power was restored six hours later. This might also be the beginning of mildew or similar growth taking hold in a crowded field of what resembles bacterial colonies.
