Went out for a few photos this afternoon but the sun was still quite harsh with little cloud coverage. Luckily this one was in the shade so I waited for the wind to stop then took a couple of photos. It´s always nice to look at them back on the monitor rather than on the rear screen of the camera. Great little macro feature on the LX3 which lets you get within 1cm ( I think). The new Fuji X20 looks promising with this feature as do many other advanced compact cameras such as the Canon G15. I´ve never owned a true macro lens but I have been pleased with the LX3 as this is one of the reasons I bought it.

Pattern is one of my favorites but now out of print. fabric is a nice, soft shirting from the 2.95 pile at G Street Fabrics.

I built a simple packing algorithm built on the golden ration "sunflower spiral". New additions to the spiral arrive at the center and the other particles move to the nearest available packing point. The paths in these images show the 'rivers' that these particles flow down to get to the next available spot.

There's absolutely no randomness in here at all, so it was interesting to see the abstract patterns emerge.

G is for Gaudy

This is a corner of a Kashmir "jewel rug", an embroidered rug/wall hanging with semi-precious stones. It's almost impossible to show the many colours , the use of gold thread and the pattern as it's just so abundant. I guess that would make it gaudy in many ways. It's a gift from a dear friend. You'll have to look at it on black and full-screen to fully see and possibly appreciate the handicraft work.

Walking back from the Acropolis area in Athens, Greece, I spotted this pattern from the fence on a random building. I couldn't help but capture it, as I'm rather attracted to patterns.

What patterns!
