This was my first attempt at knitting a pattern and my second time knitting in the round on multiple needles. It's supposed to be for an iPod, but I kept pulling the yarn tight every time I switched colors so it ended up way too small. It may fit a nano, or a cell phone! I'm going to make another one.
Nous sommes arrivés en France! We are staying in this lovely country for two months this spring. Our primary residence is Lyon, the third largest city in France, located to the southwest. It is a historical, cultural, and very picturesque city founded as the Roman city of Lugdunum, spread out over two hills and two rivers -- the Saône and Rhône.
With side trips to locations as diverse as Paris, Perpignan, Aix-en-Provence, and more, Steve and I aim to get our fill of a country neither of us has seen in a decade, and enjoy the cuisine, culture, language practice, scenery, and generally, la vie quotidienne.

My new years eve dress.
Gray taffeta with black flock printed pattern on, the dress is worn over a corset for a accented waist and under the dress is a separate underskirt to give it more fullness. There is gray piping in the seams on the bodice and a hidden zipper in center back, there is also a matching detachable bow. I made the pattern for this dress to.
I love the patterns on these leaves. Reminds me of patterns on seashells that are related to mathematical 'cellular automata'. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellular_automata
In any case, they are very beautiful. Worth looking at large!
The leaves are about 2 feet long and 2 to 3 inches wide at the base. I neglected to note the ID.
Westcoast Weezie and Omnia have identified this as a kind of bromeliad. The "Genera Gallery" at bsi.org/ (Bromeliad Society International) lists about 60 classifications for bromeliad genera! Looking thru these quickly I would say that this bears some resemblance "Vriesea hieroglyphica". see bsi.org/brom_info/gallery/Vriesea/hieroglyphica.html
Even if this ID is wrong I still like the idea that the markings on this plant are like lines of writing.
