In September, the Alpine Larches turn their needles yellow, and later drop them, making a wonderful spectacle in the High Rockies. This was not a really high hike, or a long one (just over 600 m's in elevation with all the ups and downs, 9 km's return walking distance), but we've had a great hiking season this summer.
As a contribution to the legacy of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the presidency of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture and Europeana wanted to highlight the relevance of digital cultural heritage to the aims of the European Union during the next multiannual framework. During this two day event in Varna on May 28-29, 62 participants from 21 countries explored this together with experts and representatives of ministries of culture across Europe and draft a vision that expresses this contribution in concrete terms.
The annual Thredbo Blues festival is a great excuse for good food, good wine, good company and good music. It also provides opportunities for alpine summer walks.

This led from a cannon area back to the main part of the fort. The earthen wall on the right served as protection as the soldiers went back and forth.
This is one of the last places for my photo tour with Greg Currier. Here he showed me a few techniques and ideas of composing interesting shots (this is NOT one of them). Lead in lines, what to include/not include in the fore/background, what tickles a viewer's curiosity, how to use the Rule of Thirds creatively, etc.
BUT I can't help but to take a set of brackets for some serious HDR!! :D
