I took this from our living room window two years ago. There was so much snow that Ross went out to plow a path around the house so I could feed the birdies. We watched Die Hard and Die Hard 2 last week ( so good ) and each of them ended with this version of the song "Let it Snow" by Vaughn Monroe and his orchestra from 1945. - what a voice eh !

Let It Snow!", also known as simply "Let It Snow", is a song written by lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne in July 1945 in Hollywood, California, during a heatwave as Cahn and Styne imagined cooler conditions.
no snow this year, only rain and wind.
Took this picture two weeks ago at White Pines State Park in Northern Illinois. Peak foliage was probably the week before but it was still a nice hike on a beautiful fall day....
These two photos really fascinate me. The richness of the colours and the delicate crinkles are amazing.
Driving past here on the way to the tree the light was fantastic on the far hills. Sadly by the time I got the car off the narrow road the light had changed and despite waiting , this was what I could get

This year, my family didn't celebrate the Chinese new year as my dear Mum sadly passed away after a battle with cancer. However, I took my brother and his wife for a walk in Chinatown and as you can see, the decorations are still up as there are 15 days for the celebrations.
Through the leaves, into the green
Past the trees, so tall, serene
Into the wild ,you do walk
As above birds, they sing and talk
Under your feet , you hear the sound
Of the leaves, crying on the ground
Crying to once again rise up
Fill sweet natures loving cup
Provide a shield, under the skies
Place some beauty in all eyes

Tad, grocery store owner delivering great customer service. I think that was his third time that morning he was out shoveling a safe path for us.
Once a little further north and clear of the thunderstorms, the auroras got stronger. Seen going up to The Pas, a little after 1am.

I was in a discussion with a couple of people on Saturday about wagons going to Toton and whether the wagon repiar shops were still in operation. The conclusion was yes, but not necessarily the same place. Here 66761 runs through Toton with the 4L01 12:10 Masborough NGW GBRF to London Gateway GBRF. The brown remains above the loco are the old wagon workshops, I'm guessing now cleared in preparation for HS2.
It's the first time I've been to this south end of Toton Yard since 1988, and currently a little bit more uplifting than the lines of stored 60s further up. Also good to get a perspective on where passing trains are now stabled in passing.

The owner of this property has several old cars in his yard. You can see them (as I post them) here www.flickr.com/photos/tags/20230619oldcarsinrochelle
Right now, I have posted two - there will be at least 2 more.
We had a chance to chat with the owner while we were taking pictures. He said he was planning on tearing this house down. We suggested he have the local fire department burn it down. They do that in these parts as a training exercise.
They spend several days setting up drills, burning parts of the building, etc. Then when they've used the place up, they burn it down for you. Saves the wrecking costs, and you make good friends with the firefighters!
That's always handy when you have to call them for help when you've "fallen and you can't get up." For those of you from outside the US or if you're too young to get this reference, here ya go. youtu.be/myfGdhZtKa4
BTW, the FD WILL come out and help if this happens. We had to call them once for just this situation.
