An old house that has been beautifully restored, the abbey of which parts have been ruined and others survived time, some signs of modern times, all in harmony in Malmesbury!

A period house in the Spitalfields area of London that's regularly used as a film set for historical dramas. I've shot this previously long ago but stumbled across it on this occasion without any cars to impede the POV - definitely worth a retake IMO.

Not far from Paris ON and a bit outside of Brantford ON, there is this abandoned place. It looks like it was nice place at one time. I always wonder about abandoned places.

Happy Window Wednesday

I've somehow become an over-sharer lately. So here it is, another vintage try of mine featuring my favourite old purse, made of hand-linked tiny silver rings from fin-de-siecle or thereabouts.

Have a fabulous day or evening, wherever you may be my friends!

CSX D79522 passes the farm inside the horseshoe curve just west of Fairfield on CSX's Hanover Sub. The train is climbing a steep uphill grade that often brings trains to its knees, but today they have enough power to take the hill at track speed.

Another slide from the past given an oil painting make over.

56053 ‘Sir Morgannwg Ganol/ County of Mid Glamorgan’ heads past the 1898-built Barry Docks Offices with an empty coal train from Barry to Tower colliery.

Even though most Welsh coal mines had closed by 1994, residual coal traffic, particularly serving the power station at Aberthaw generated plenty of rail traffic. On this day (unusually busy) Sunday, Aberthaw received 7 trains: 2 from Tower, 4 from Cwmbargoed and 1 from Jersey Marine.

The impressive building, in the baroque revival style, was built to regulate the vast coal traffic that flowed out of Barry in the early 20th century. Prior to the first world war Barry was the busiest coal port in the world. Over 11 million tonnes of coal per year were being shipped through Barry with more than 18,000 employees working the docks.

The building was in good repair in 1994: 10 years earlier a fire had seriously damaged the structure, and the port owner had recently completed an extensive refurbishment. In 2021, the building houses part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

As my feet walk me forward with purpose, I glance back at what I was, and whom I had been. There is no shame or regret, just the knowledge that I was. The new light beacons me forward, and I smile.

Macro Mondays - Decay

Distressed, neglected and abandoned ,this decaying building still has some photographic appeal. The crumbling brickwork, the peeling paint and fading colour contrasts full of chararacter in my eyes. This is a first floor door and window and small platform,I can only assume it was a warehouse in some past life.
