Have you realized how many passwords you have to use daily? From the moment you wake up to the moment you lay down to sleep? From Phone passwords to all different sorts of passwords on the computer and websites you need to access daily, ATM passwords, at work to clock in and clock out, Copy machines, to check you phone messages....
I could go on forever.... The worst part of this is: How do you keep track of all of them?

I'm sitting in Matterhorn, a famous cake shop 3 minutes from the station in Gakugaidaigaku (about ten minutes from Shibuya). The reputation is well-deserved - I've just eaten the orange cake in the picture - it was delicious! Do ask where it is at the police box if you're ever in the neighbourhood.
I think I deserve a treat though. This morning, myself and two friends who will be running the Tokyo Marathon in 6 weeks ran our longest training run yet - 29km (18 miles). Our time was pretty good too.
The route we took followed a part of the actual marathon route - starting in Shinagawa, going up to Nihonbashi, then further north to Asakusa. From there it was back down to Ginza, then west through Roppongi, Ebisu, finishing at Naka-Meguro. (See the route and stats as tracked by my iPod touch here: bit.ly/29kmTokyo
Being a Sunday morning the streets were really quiet. The weather's been great today too, and best of all my legs held out to the end! Around the 25km mark I really began to hurt though, so put my headphones on to listen to some motivating music - Red Hot Chilli Peppers did the trick!
I was also trying out the technology for the race itself - the emobile 3G to WIFI device I blogged the other day really is great, and means the iPod is a lot more useful as it can be connected to the internet anywhere. I'll probably run a Tweet-to-voice app on it - viewers of the live video can send comments via Twitter, and those tweets will automatically be read to me whilst running!
I had a problem with my iPhone though - it got stuck in Zoom mode - meaning I could only see one section of the screen at a time as it was so big. So, I couldn't enter my passcode, and thus couldn't use it! When I got home I looked up the problem and found that it's actually a 'feature' that I had accidentally turned on - you tap the screen with three fingers and it enters zoom mode, tap it again and it goes back to normal (has to be switched on in the iPhone settings).
Anyway, time for more cake :-)
What are you doing this Sunday? Hope it's more relaxing than my morning was!
Joseph

My husband found these pics on his phone. Journaling says, "Lesson: Naptime isn't safe when your teen daughter knows your phone passcode!"
I used this fun sketch:
letsgetsketchy.blogspot.com/2017/03/march-1-sketch-challe...
I decided on using the color palette here - it was the pinks and teals that got me:
anothercolorfulcreation.blogspot.com/2017/03/march-1st-ch...
I inked around the edges of the papers, and I also created light dots on the floral paper with Tim Holtz picked raspberry distress ink.
And it was because of this challenge that I included so many dots - dots are fun, and I thought they went well with these goofy photos that my daughter took (dots on the transparency, dots on the chipboard title letters...): picturethischallenges.blogspot.com/2017/03/march-1st-mood...
Thanks!

Olvera_ Area Caravanna.
A small private area next to the Station Hotel for four motorhomes. The access is difficult if you do not speak Spanish as you must ring a phone number to get a passcode for the gate lock and as the message is in Spanish. We were luck a young couple arrived and we gained entry on their knowledge. Very nice quiet spot with the bar and restauran t of the hotel very close.
Beautifull cycle from Olvera 36.6 kilometres to Puerto Sorrano on a disused railway track. 30 tunnels and stunning scenery.
The Sierra Greenway goes along the old Jerez-Almargen railway line. Voted the best Greenway in Europe in 2009, La Vía Verde de la Sierra runs for 36.5 km at the foot of the southernmost mountains of Spain, between the Cádiz towns of Olvera and Puerto Serrano, and in between, the Seville town of Coripe. It traverses some of the most beautiful and spectacular countryside in Andalucía, and follows a section of the old railway line from Jerez to Setinil and Grazalema, first proposed by the Cádiz authorities in 1888, but which progressed no further than the paperwork.
Attempt number four was instigated in 1925 by Málaga-born Rafael Benjumea Burin, the Minister for Development appointed by the dictatorship of General Miguel Primo de Rivera. The Minister was an engineer by profession, and his ambition was to create a railway system that would serve military and strategic interests. The idea was to connect more directly the naval bases at Cádiz and Cartagena.
Between 1926 and 1933, tens of millions of pesetas were poured into the construction which was divided into three phases, each being awarded to a different construction company. Work was halted during the Civil War, recommenced again at the end of the Second World War, but due to a lack of impetus and momentum, together with a change in the economic viability of the project, it was finally abandoned in 1962. Not a single train ever ran on the line.

When I first got my SAA, I went to the range but the passcode wouldn't open the door at the pistol range so I couldn't get a target and board. Fourth of July and I've finally gotten a chance to go back and the key works so now I know how it shoots.
Or rather, how I shoot. I started out pretty crappy, the 5s and 6s were from the first two cylinders, but I improved. Two of the 4 Xs were from the last cylinder. I only had one box of ammo and so only fired 30 rounds. And the Cowboy Action light-recoil loads are easy to shoot. With almost no recoil any inability to his the target is all my fault.

"Lion Colors
Dancing Lions come in all colors. Each color is meant to represent the characteristics and the attitudes of the lion, and each lion has a significance that fits the specific ceremony in which he dances. The lion is believed to have mystical powers. The first lion-dancing costumes were created using "the five colors": black, green, red, white, and yellow. By this means, the dancing lion was said to control the five cardinal directions: north, east, south, west, and center, respectively. Today, the lion costumes come in all colors, but traditionally there were three, each one representing one of the three famous Chinese Generals: Liu Pei, Kwan Kung and Chang Fei.
Yellow or multi-colored lions represent General Liu Pei. This lion has a long white beard and is the oldest and the wisest of the three. The yellow face shows general Liu Pei's intelligence, bravery and kindness. The red lion with its black beard represents the famous Chinese general and leader Kwan Kung and the bravery and the righteousness for which he is known. The red faced lion also represents happiness, good luck and prosperity.
The black lion is the youngest of the three and represents General Chang Fei. The black lion appears much more fierce than the other two. He has a short black beard, which is meant to highlight his youthfulness and combative nature and represents General Chang Fei's bravery and strength. Also known as the fighting lion, he is very aggressive and strong. His movements are quick, sharp, energetic and always aggressive.
The History of the Green Lion
There's another reason lion dancers are generally martial artists. Lion dancing gained its greatest fame during the Ching Dynasty. The Manchu reign at that time was an oppressive, inhumane government. Thousands of Chinese were massacres without any known cause until, it is said, "their blood literally reddened the rivers." Ming loyalists attempting to foment rebellion against the Manchu warlords, expressed their hatred by inventing the green-faced lion. With brows made of twin steel swords, each measuring 1 foot 6 inches in length, the green lion represented the Manchu Government during the Ching Dynasty. Fighting the lion meant combating the Manchus.
Since lion dancing was performed in villages all over the country for the purpose of celebrations, the rebels would use the opportunity to exchange information and to collect money for the revolution. As part of the dance, the lion would eat lettuce — which is where the money would be hidden. The lead dancer would cry, "Choi ching!" ("get the Ching!") to signal that he was a fellow revolutionary and, therefore, it was safe to pass information to him. However, informers soon figured out the battlecry. So, since chiang (meaning "green") sounds very much like ching, the revolutionary passcode was changed to "Choi chiang!" ("get the green"). To this day, this revolutionary cry is used when the lion "eats" the symbolic lettuce and good luck money."
The manga background:
Oh My Goddess! (Japanese: ああっ女神さまっ, Hepburn: Aa! Megami-sama), or Ah! My Goddess! in some releases, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kosuke Fujishima. It was serialized in Kodansha's seinen manga magazine Monthly Afternoon from September 1988 to April 2014, with its chapters collected in 48 tankōbon volumes. The series falls into the “Fantasy Rom-Com” genre and follows college sophomore Keiichi Morisato and the goddess Belldandy who moves in with him in a Buddhist temple. After Belldandy's sisters Urd and Skuld move in with them, they encounter gods, demons and other supernatural entities as Keiichi develops his relationship with Belldandy.
The Oh My Goddess! universe is fashioned loosely around Celtic/Norse Mythology, even though it play in modern Japan; various names and concepts are recycled for humor. Three worlds exist in the Universe of Oh My Goddess: Heaven (Valhalla), Hell (Niflheim), and Earth. Heaven is the realm of the All Mighty and goddesses, Hell is the realm of Hild and demons, and Earth is the realm of humans. Reality is controlled by an enormous and complex computer system, named Yggdrasil.
Belldandy and her siblings Urd and Skuld are – even though it’s IIRC never mentioned – the three Norns, a group of deities in Norse mythology responsible for shaping the course of human destinies. Belldandy (actually Verthandi – but no Japanese could spell this, so her name was changed…) is the Norn of the Present, while Skuld is the Norn of the Future and Urd the Norn of the Past, what is also subtly reflected in their interests and character.
Each goddess (and also demon) is assigned Class, Category, and Restrictions. Class indicates power and skill in performing pure magic. First Class goddesses are held to a stricter standard regarding the prohibition to lie. There are also three categories: Administration, Commercial (Field), and Special Duty. Limited and Unlimited restrictions indicate boundaries on permitted actions. Goddesses also wear power limiters, usually in the form of jewelry. Goddesses may be penalized for dereliction of duty and may have their license suspended for a time. A goddess using her powers during suspension will have her license permanently revoked. Belldandy is a Goddess First Class, Second Category, Unlimited License. Urd and Skuld are Goddesses Second Class, First Category, Limited License.
The goddesses' purpose is to bring happiness to everyone around them. Toward that end, Heaven has created the Goddess Technical Helpline (also called Goddess Relief Agency), designed to bring happiness to the people of Earth, especially those with great virtue but terrible misfortune. A competing institution named the Earth Assistance Center, also is staffed by goddesses. In most scenarios, a goddess appears before one that the system has deemed worthy and grants him or her one wish. The wish must be approved by the system, after which a contract is created between the human and the goddess and stored on the Yggdrasil system as a file. The wish contract file is protected by a passcode known to the Goddess. As demons work toward the opposite end, the total happiness on Earth must remain in balance. Heaven and Hell strictly abide by an agreement to work through contracts and to prevent bloodshed between them, each god is linked to a demon by a life contract, thus if one of them is killed, the other perishes as well, with their memories of the contract erased to ensure no one knows who is paired with whom.
Character description:
Urd (ウルド, Urudo) is Belldandy's older half-sister and is the second Goddess to appear to Keiichi Morisato. Urd ranks as Goddess second class, management category limited license, similar to her youngest sister Skuld. She is the Norn of the Past and, when the story begins, the Yggdrasil System Administrator and Manager in charge. Though she is much more powerful than her sisters, she has not become a first-class goddess - due to her own decision (probably to retain some freedoms like being able/allowed to lie…). Urd shares a common father with her younger sisters, but has a different mother, the Demon Lord Hild. Because of this, Urd is a hybrid of Goddess and Demon, even though this only becomes apparent and relevant in later manga chapters. Even though Urd is very powerful she has a weakness that she inherited through her demonic lineage: when she hears Austrian polka she fades out and falls unconscious – an Achilles heel that is exploited several times (e.g. by the demon Mara, who has to dance as long as she hears disco music…) to take her out of the way or kidnap her.
Urd fancies herself as a (self-proclaimed!) Goddess of Love, so she comes to Earth to spur Keiichi onward with love potions and well-meaning, but deceitful advice. But as punishment for deserting her post at Yggdrasil and for using her powers on Earth without authorization, The Almighty banishes her from Heaven until further notice. After being allowed to go back, she decides to stay on Earth instead.
Urd appears as a tall and voluptuous woman, probably in her early or mid- twenties, with bronze skin and long, silvery-white (platinum blonde?) hair, both traits which she inherited from her mother, Hild. In the manga, Urd's hair gradually changes from perfectly straight at her introduction, to wavy during and immediately after the Lord of Terror Arc, to becoming intermediately straight but still wavy. Urd's hair initially also sported a notable ahoge, but this is gone by chapter 94, after which Urd's hair further straightens out and remains that way for the rest of the series. She is 5’ 6” (165-170cm) tall, making her taller than most other characters in the series (we are talking about Japanese standards, Belldandy is 5’ 4”), and her measurements are 90-60-91.
Unlike her younger half-sister Belldandy, Urd is very impulsive, self-centered and headstrong. Belldandy describes Urd as being very passionate about everything she does. Urd is a great believer in the idea that the 'End justifies the Means', although, as Belldandy puts it: "...she gets so wrapped up in the means that she forgets what the end was." She once stole Sleipnir to get a cure for a sick Belldandy but spent so much time in the effort to master riding Sleipnir that it took eight days for her to get to the place where the cure was. Another god had fetched the cure six days earlier. Despite such, she usually means well and will do anything to protect her loved ones, and she is very loyal towards them. Because of her being the oldest, she believes it's also her duty to look after Belldandy and Skuld.
Urd's impulsiveness often makes her act first without fully considering the consequences. She is also a constant meddler, seemingly unable to leave well enough alone. She is also quite short tempered for a goddess and is rather easy to irritate and anger. Urd is also notable for her tendency to lie, something a goddess supposedly can't do (or, more accurately, it is something a goddess shouldn't do, being against the rules – it’s one reason for her “Limited License” status). Although she's not a pathological liar, she's more than willing to distort the truth if needed to accomplish an objective. She is also very open (and rather proud) of her sexuality, evidenced by her provocative dress, jibes at the younger Skuld and her slightly comical distress when turned into a child because of energy drainage. Her first appearance to Keiichi Morisato was through a semi-pornographic video (labeled “Sexy Sister”!).
For a goddess, Urd seems to have an amazing tendency to have her plans backfire, usually a result of her impulsive tendency to use raw power to solve a situation and not think about collateral consequences. Given her power levels this tends to cause explosions. Quite often, something will happen to louse up whatever scheme she's currently cooked up. Examples including: drinking one of her own love potions, trying to help Belldandy bake a cake and blowing up the kitchen, trying to help Keiichi build a motorbike and blowing up the garage, trying to dispel a number of computer "bugs" and blowing up the house, and so on.
One of Urd's most defining traits is her mixed Goddess-Demon ancestry. Because of this unique heritage, Urd is occasionally uncertain of her status within her world, as her Goddess and Demon personalities are always in conflict inside her. It was this inner conflict that allowed the Lord of Terror to eventually overcome Urd's will at one point. Deep in her heart, she truly wishes to be recognized as a Goddess and, in her earlier years, often looked up to Belldandy as a role model. This has led Urd to quietly deny her demonic heritage, much to the consternation of her mother, Hild.
The kit and its assembly:
This kit/figure holds a special place because it is a piece of memorabilia from around 25 years ago when I participated as exhibitor and workshop instructor at one of Germany’s biggest anime conventions at that time, the “Animagic”. It was a VERY funny period, meeting nice people and including some personal highlights like meeting the Japanese composer Yoko Kanno in person and attending a concert of her. Once in a lifetime! :-D
I found this figure at one of the merchandize dealers during one of the early conventions, before the doors opened for the public, and being a great Aa megamisama! Fan I was …tempted. The figure was quite simple and affordable (DM 79,-), and when I saw that a foot had broken off, I even negotiated the price down, IIRC to just DM 50;-, what would translate (w/o inflation) to roughly EUR 25,- today - a steal! It was, however, not certain where the figure came from, but it came with a clear blister pack and not in one of the typical pink or blank cardboard boxes in which cheap and shoddy recasts were sold at that time, and the seller also assured me that it was no recast. The internet was also not very common at these days to cross-check, so that research was not easy and had mostly to rely on Japanese magazines and collector catalogues.
However, once bought I never had the real drive to build or better paint that model – mostly because it was/is a “single piece” model without much hardware challenge. That changed a bit when I recently received a unique birthday present: a hand-drawn (commissioned) illustration of the character. That reminded me of the Urd model somewhere in The Stash™, I dug it out and decided it was now time to tackle it!
Concerning the figure I also became curious: what did I have here? Just a cheap recast, or something authentic? This is a real issue with these garage/short-run kits, esp. when you procure them online (totally dubious) or from merchants at fairs and conventions, where you can at least have a look at the parts, the resin and the packaging.
Good news in this case: With some internet legwork it seems as if it really is an original Volks model of Urd! Volks Inc. is a Japan-based corporation that produces garage kits and mecha kits as well as the Dollfie, Super Dollfie and Dollfie Dream lines of dolls. The company's headquarters is in Kyoto, with some 30 shops worldwide. Volks did a whole series of 1:8 scale Oh! My Goddess kits, and this Urd figure is apparently a special give-away model. What makes it odd is that it was not sold in the company’s typical cardboard boxes, but rather in a clear blister box with just a b/w sticker (and maybe a metallized Kodansha license sticker). Thanks to the internet I found references for both figure and boxing, and both look authentic, even though it’s still not certain. But I am inclined to believe that I really have an original Volks kit–these go for EUR 150-200,- these days, if complete and in mint condition. Therefore, despite the long hiatus in the kit pile, a good deal, even 25 years ago! ^^
So, here we are after 25 years. The blister pack is yellowed, the sticker faded, and the figure’s resin also yellowed a bit – but everything is still fine. There is hardly much to tell about this character model from a building perspective, because the figure consists only of a single massive piece – probably because it was just a quickly designed and produced special edition/give-away offering. The only thing I had to do was glue the broken foot back again, and sand away some light mold seams and sprue traces around the shoulders and the feet. To make the figure look a bit livelier and more delicate I added a few hair strands, made from 0.5mm styrene sheet – simply cut out with scissors and glued to the forehead with superglue.
Another addition for later presentation is a home-brew display base for the figure, following my standard design. It consists of a square 4x4” melamine-coated press board base, flanks covered with edge-band. A custom adapter/holder made from soft 1.8mm iron wire that fits into a respective opening drilled into the figure’s right foot holds it in place. Carpet tile material was used underneath to add some ground clearance. The whole thing was painted black with matt acrylic paint from a rattle can for an even and neutral finish that does not distract from the flamboyant character on top of it.
Painting and markings:
Like many garage kits, especially those from the Nineties, this model has been sculpted after a concrete illustration or after OAV/TV screenshots – and this helped a lot in the later/current age of the internet to find authentic painting guide references, because the Volks kit did not come with any instructions (O.K., there is no assembly required at all!) or the typical photoprint of the finished model that is normally part of an original GK boxing.
In this specific guise Urd appears in the OAV series (what, considering her hairdo, too, appears plausible, so I’d date the figure/mold to date from 1994 or 1995) as well as in some off-manga illustrations, maybe cover motifs. Her clothes turned out to be quite colorful: a dark, deep blue dress with kind of tiger-striped lapels and wine-red lining, a wide purple belt or obi, and low ankle boots (on some illu variations Urd wears open sandals). Additionally, there is lots of bare skin with a marked tan/bronze hue, her curly and almost white hair, as well as some pieces of jewelry.
Painting started, after the few hardware steps, with an overall coat with white primer (Vallejo) to check surface quality and create a good basis for the skin. This became first paint layer to be applied, because I’d apply it with rattle cans – due to the relatively small scale of the figure I wanted to add a light shading effect, and this stunt as well as an even paint finish for the skin would hardly be achievable through brush work. Finding proper shades for Urd’s skin was tricky, though, and eventually I procured several Montana Gold rattle cans – primarily material for graffiti artists, but also great for models due to the acrylic paints’ great and fine spray quality, their even finish, and the available color palette with subtle grading that allows to create refined transitions.
I came up with a basic tone called “Make-up”, which is surprisingly close to Urd’s skin tone on official colorized illustrations, and on top of that I added a thin directed layer of “Flesh”.
After that work continued with brushes and primarily with enamel paints. I followed a from-light-to-dark strategy and started with the hair. It was painted in two shades of grey and pure white Revell 374, 371 and 04), wet-in-wet to create contrast and shading. Next came the tiger-striped lapels (Humbrol 7 and 9), the purple belt (a mix of Revell 350 and Humbrol 20 and 47) and her boots and fingerless gloves (both Humbrol 9 and 98). That had to dry thoroughly again and then followed the burgundy red liner (Humbrol 20 and 51) of Urd’s dress and overcoat. Again, this had to dry for while due to the glossy Humbrol enamel’s tendency to remain wet for hours, if not for days… Next came the very dark blue outside of her coat (judging the illustrations it is definitively darker than the dress underneath) with Humbrol 104 and Revell 350 – again painted in a wet-in-wet technique to create shading effects without an airbrush – and finally the blue dress with Revell 350 and Model Master 2012.
Once the figure had received her basic colors it was time for detail work. This included corrections, some thinned black ink to emphasize selected edges and folds, adding some highlights here and there, and painting the – despite its chunkiness – quite delicate jewelry. The latter was, to make things easier, primed with flat black acrylic paint, and on top of that details were painted with metallic lacquer pens in gold and silver, trying to come close to the figure’s canonical appearance on TV and illustrations.
The eyes are decals – at 1:8 it is a real fight to paint them well, and Urd has very special, narrow (almost cat-like) eyes and gaze, not the typical moon eyes of cute anime girls. I procured a couple of generic eye decal sets and eventually found a pair that fitted well in style and size – even though I am a bit uncertain about Urd’s eye color. In some illus it’s apparently green, in others (though probably fan-art) even violet? Judging Urd’s OAV depiction and after some web search her “official” eye color is described as “golden or amber”, though, and as a compromise from the many decal options I had I went for a yellow-ish tone and a narrower almond shape that comes IMHO close to the “original”. Additionally, I chose almost white eyebrows as decals, too.
Urd’s blue facial (the triangle pointing down on her forehead symbolizes the past) markings were also created with decal material (TL Modellbau, taken from a mid-blue sheet), even though they were molded onto the figure’s face to ease painting. But the decal solution made things much less messy, esp. with the additional hair strands in front of Urd’s face. These would make delicate painting quite complicated, if not impossible.
As a final measure then model’s slightly opened mouth was “filled” with thinned brick red enamel paint, to create depth but to avoid a “lipstick look”, which Urd does not have despite her looks and attitude, and what also looks in general goofy on large scale anime figures.
Finally, the figure was sealed with matt acrylic varnish, again from a rattle can, the base was painted black, and then it was completed (and ready for scenic pictures 😉).

How To Hack iPhone Access Restrictions Passcode?
3utools.blogspot.com/2017/03/how-to-hack-iphone-access-re...

A court in Florida has said a suspected voyeur can be made to reveal his iPhone passcode to investigators.
The defendant was arrested after a woman out shopping saw a man crouch down and aim what she believed was a smartphone under her skirt.
Previously, a judge said the defendant could not be made to reveal the code, citing constitutional protections.
That decision has now been reversed by the Florida Court of Appeal's Second District.

J-Pop 365 - May 17, 2015 - Today I am listening to Yasuda Rei's "Passcode 4854", the theme song to the anime series "Kindaichi Case Files". 私の音楽365写真プロジェクト
This morning we fixed Jean's passcodes for her. Although it may not
last long, she is able to access her money again. This, of course, is
something that scares the bejesus out of me, since I know she's nary
equipped to make logical calculations. Nevertheless, while she's got
a shred of independence (and I have the money to support her in case
she gives it all away), I'm going to let her have her way. At the end
of the day, it's her money. It gives her a sense of some control, and
I can't take that away right now. She's already lost a lot.
Last night was a horrible night. Jean called, that blood-curdling
voice I grew up with at the other end of the line, letting me know I
was in for it. Yes, after 39 years, she can still paralyze me.
"Give. Me. Back. My. Goddamn. Car."
"Jean, you offered it to me, first of all. Second of all, it's in the
repair shop. Should be done Monday. If you need a car, Dan will drive
his over."
"You TOOK it," she said.
"You don't remember that I got in a car accident? And by the way, mom,
I'm fine."
"You never told me that. You TOOK it to give to your friends."
"You don't believe I got in a car accident?"
(Screaming) "Give me my car!!!! GIve me my car!!!! Give me my car!!!!"
"Mother. You are not allowed to scream at me."
"I can do any goddamn thing I want."
"Actually, you cannot. And one thing you cannot do is speak to me like
that."
I hung up. Certainly, arguing with her wasn't going to work, and
practically speaking, I couldn't get the car to her at that moment
anyway (the computer chip thingy that died would not be ready for the
car until this morning -- it's in the shop as I type). So, I hung up.
In reflection, I'm not sure I've ever hung up on anyone I knew
personally. That is, there are probably a couple of customer service
agents with my name on a hitlist, but to drop-phone on a person I
love? Unthinkable. I've had way too many 50-minute hours to do that.
Still, there it was.
20 minutes later, the phone rang.
"I'd like my car back, please." Her voice was angry, but not high.
"Since you took the car Thursday, I have not been able to get out at
all."
"Jean, your car was undriveable, we took you out, and your friends who
drive have their own cars. Still, it's your car. You want it, it's
yours. You just cannot have it back until it's fixed. Is that what
you want?"
"I don't know what I want."
What she wanted was to go to the bank, because she had locked herself
out (again) of her accounts. It did no good to tell her that the in-
person banking people would not help her. All they would do is give
her a comfy chair and dial the online number for her. They know she's
impaired at this point, which in a strange way is good. So they treat
her nicely, offer her some water, and sit her on a phone.
"I can take care of that for you, Mom. It's too late tonight, but
first thing Monday, after I stop by the repair shop at 7am, I will get
your back online."
"Tsan?"
"Yep."
"Thank you. And . . . I'm sorry."
"Don't worry about it. It's what daughter's do."
"But this is not what mothers do." Then, more tears. I could hear
her choking them back as I hung up.
This morning when I called to tell her that her accounts were once
again online, she was groggy, clearly having stayed up for another
late night bout with CNN. She sounded sleepy, but also depressed. I
wonder how long she has to suffer.
