Sculptures -- Shiva, Parvati and Ganesh being sold at Basavanagudi, Bengaluru.

Parvati, wife of Shiva, holds a broken figure of her child Skanda; her other child, elephant headed, Ganesha is by her right foot. Beneath her lotus throne is the lion she rides on. Above her elephants pour water in a gesture of homage.

Parvati or Uma is the Hindu goddess of fertility, love and devotion; as well as of divine strength and power. Known by many other names, she is the gentle and nurturing aspect of the Hindu goddess Shakti and one of the central deities of the Goddess-oriented Shakta sect. She is the mother goddess in Hinduism, and has many attributes and aspects. Each of her aspects is expressed with a different name, giving her over 100 names in regional Hindu stories of India. Along with Lakshmi and Saraswati, she forms the trinity of Hindu goddesses.

Story behind:

"An angry Shiva took the form of Bhairava and cut off the fifth head of Brahma for being arrogant about His creation. But soon Shiva felt remorse and for redemption of the sin, Brahma asked Shiva to become a wandering ascetic (Bhikshatana) and beg for food in a skull."

Maha Shivaratri festival, Angalamman Temple, Kaveripattinam.

Once Shakthi was reborn as Parvati, Brahma performed a yaga to save god men from two demons known as sandobi and sundaran. Through this yagna Thilothama as Apsaras came to life. Attracted by the beauty of Thilothama, the demons, and even Brahma, followed her. For her protection she went to Kailash where Brahma also followed. As Brahma also was with five heads, Parvathi mistook him for Shiva and felt at his feet. When Parvathi realized the truth, she was very angry and prayed Shiva that the fifth head of Brahma should be destroyed. So Shiva as "Rudra" removed one head of Brahma so Brahma now with four heads cursed Shiva that his fifth head must be attached to his hand itself and hereafter Shiva must be affected having hunger, having no sleep. So Shiva came to earth and roamed everywhere. When he was hungry he begged and ate, but half of the food he begged was eaten by the fifth head of Brahma: that is, the "Kabala" so Shiva roamed in every graveyard and slept in ashes and that form of Shiva is worhipped as Sudalaimadan in south India.

Parvati went to her brother Lord Vishnu and asked for relief for her husband so Lord Vishnu said to Parvati, "My dear sister, go to thandakarunyam graveyard with your husband and make a pond there named "Agni kula theertham" and prepare a tasty food made by Agathi keerai (Humming bird tree leaves) and blood of chicken and serve that food to kabala and then throw the food everywhere in the graveyard. The kabala will come down, leaving Shiva's hand, to eat the food. Then take your husband to the pond and clean him with that water so that it will not catch your husbands hand". Parvati did as her brother said: she took her husband to thandakarunyam graveyard and prepared the food, served it to the kabala and then threw it in the graveyard. The kabala came down from Shiva's hand; meanwhile, Parvati took her husband to the pond and cleaned him. The kabala searched for Shiva's hand but could not touch him so it attached to Parvati's hand. So Parvati forgot about this and danced; then she recognised what had happened and become big and destroyed the kabala with her right leg.

The fiercest form (Angara rubam or Agora rubam) which destroyed the kabala when separated from Parvati is called Angalaamman. Parvati told Angalaamman to stay there and give a boon to the people who worship her and she went to Kailayam. However, Shiva was not there. Shiva got relief from Brahma's curse, but he was too hungry so he went Kasi and there Parvati, incarnated as "Annapoorani Devi", served him food and Shiva ate and got relief from his hunger.

In the Thandakarunyam Angalaamman give boon to the people who worship her the people who had diseases went there and get relief from the diseases she drive away the evil ghosts from the people and people go there and worship her in no moon days (Amavasya) at the midnight of every no moon day Angalamman is decorated and put on a swing

Alison's favorite thing to do is design clothes. She got an internship at an exclusive company that made the most fashionable clothes. She worked with her friend, Valana, and her boss, Ms. Goldstein. One day, Ms. Goldstein assigned the two interns a big assignment: come up with a red carpet outfit. There would be one winner and that winner would be able to wear the outfit on the red carpet and get a promotion. Alison worked very hard and Valana slacked off a bit. Noticing she was behind, Valana stole Alison's sketches, made the outfit, and turned in the dress before Alison. When Alison turned in the same dress, Valana accused Alison of stealing her idea and Ms. Goldstein fired Alison. The next day, Alison saw Valana wearing the dress that she created. An overwhelmed Alison grabbed a kitchen knife and sliced through her veins and died watching her ex-friend live out her dream.

Let's face it, we can all get envious... It's just something we need to learn how to accept and deal with. It is a feeling that can consume our bodies and minds and it can make us do some stupid things. We can't allow envy to do this to us. If something begins to make you envious, just think about all the positive things that you have in your life. Positive energy will make the envy go away :)

At first I was confused on how to create this photo. The challenge was to make an underwater photo without having your model underwater. I decided to put her against a black backdrop and have the camera farther away to show the dark and large sea she was trapped in. I used a long transparent dress so the movements would be visible and because it is a beautiful dress! I used a string to make her float and I used a fan to make her hair appear to be underwater. I also added in a couple of bubbles for the underwater effect.

This is Alison's first photo for the competition! It took a lot of work and a lot of editing to get this shot, but she is happy with the result and hopes you are too!

HOW IT WAS MADE:

Two long ribbons

French-braid Alison's hair

Another captivating view from Kalpa capturing the massive Parvati-Raldang massif. This was taken in the afternoon under harsh sunlit condition.Used a darker tone to retain some of the snow details. Pl.see large for best effect.

A quaint little village in Parvati Valley, Western Himalayas, India.

Lord Shiva and Parvati sculpture on the exterior wall of Hoysaleswara Temple Halebidu, Karnataka, India.

#ParvatiValley is situated in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. From the confluence of the Parvati River with the River Beas, the Parvati Valley runs eastwards, through a steep-sided valley from the town of Bhuntar, in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh in Northern India.

This wonderful couple of Shiva and Parvati are frozen in stone in Halebid, Karnataka state, India. This is found in the 12th century Hoysaleshwara temple in Halebid. This temple is a treasure house of intricate sculptures created by the Hoysala dynasty.

Each and every inch of the temple wall is decorated with minute details. It is better to see for one self to believe it.
