The incredible Soolmaz Abooali invited the ladies to train in Karate with her, and then have a wonderful conversation about what it means to be an empowered woman.

This particular angle on Partners has been done recently by a couple of my pals recently, and some very creative telephoto compressions as well. When I set-up to take my version last week, I wanted something to be a little different, so I took my tripod, lowered the legs all the way down, and (gasp) placed it over the fence and into the soil bordering the gorgeous Poinsettias*

For the girls first day in America they were invited to visit the State department and got to meet some of the amazing people that helped bring them here. They also have daily curriculum activities that help them grow as a team and as individuals.

The Lakeshore Foundation brought the girls in for a quick swim lesson, as many of the ladies have never swam before. A few of them braved the waters and learned some great new skills while growing more comfortable in the pool.

Partnering with Donors in Turbulent Times

Partnering and co-financing with donors are integral to EBRD’s work to improve the lives of people in our countries of operations and to deliver our mandate. Our partnerships are strong and longstanding. The Annual Donor Meeting was an occasion to take stock of these partnerships in 2021, discuss topical issues and set out some plans for 2022. Naturally, there was a focus on our work and achievements in the SEMED region.

The Annual Donor Meeting was opened by EBRD President, Odile Renaud-Basso who provided updates on the Bank’s response to current events. Our response to the Ukraine crisis recognised the rapidly evolving environment and uncertainties, and we discussed how best we can deploy our donor partnerships to support operations, as well as the short and longer-term impacts of the war in Ukraine, across our countries of operations in the region, and beyond.

The agenda promised to set the tone for working more closely as we address the challenges ahead.
