As part of the so-called Bourbon Reforms, devised to limit the powers of the Church and of unscrupulous nobility and to further the economic reconstruction of the Spanish Empire, Charles III (1716-1788), king of Spain, also set great store by the revitalisation of the sciences. One of his projects was the Expedición Botánica al Virreinato de Nueva España sent to Mexico 1787-1803. It was led jointly by a Spaniard, physician Martín Sessé y Lacastra (1751-1808), and a native Spanish-Mexican José Marino Mociño (1757-1820). Besides exploring and collecting it was their task to found a Botanical Garden at Mexico City. Obviously they garnered many plants, which were also relayed to Europe.

One of these - arriving in England by the early 1820s - was the pictured Fuchsia arborescens or arborea. Our botanists had found it near the city of Uruapán in the state of Michoacán. In England it was scientifically described in 1823 by John Sims (1749-1831), the first editor of Curtis's Botanical Magazine, on the basis of plants grown from the seed brought back to England by that curious English jack-of-all trades - jeweller, antiquarian, naturalist, miner, business man, traveller and even utopian - William Bullock (1773-1849), who'd gone to Mexico for an unsuccessful silver mining enterprise.

In September 2023 I will showcase a build in Billund, Lego house. This one will be a part of it. I am going to expand it to the right and it will be much larger, too.

You can see there's nothing totally new here; for Billund I don't experiment but try to put together some of my trademarks and stuff from my most like models. I try to merge "Medieval texture madness" and "Lavender Dream". Well, time will tell.

Thanks a lot to Robert (Hellboy) for the printed wod parts that I used for the bridge.

The editing/picture is pretty bad in certain spots as I had a white background but replaced it with a dark one. Spots that are blurry because of the aperture are impossible to be edited cleanly as it's impossible to tell where the tree ends and the background begins as both blend into each other. So just do me a favour and don't zoom in :-)

While Grandmother and Pippi were enjoying their sleigh ride, the cousins started their annual Monopoly tournament. These girls are very competitive, so once it starts, the game will not stop until someone has been declared the champion!

These Blythe dolls are Juno Estella, Patty Patch, and Sailing Dominique for “We would not stop” on Flickr and “Red Hair” on Facebook. The game is called “World’s Smallest Monopoly” and it is complete in every tiny detail.

... no idea what to name ... any suggestion ?

Part 30: Pippi’s prank (setting the clock back an hour) was soon noticed, and after laughing and calling her a “cute mischief maker”, everyone gathered their belongings and headed out the door. Grandmother hugged and kissed each one as she said goodbye, and they all agreed that this had been the best Thanksgiving ever!

This picture is for “Kiss them all” on Flickr and “Red hair” on Facebook.

And so concludes our story! It was so much fun for me to use the daily prompts as the basis for a single narrative, thanks to Nancy’s great idea to take the prompts from the poem “Over the River and Through the Woods.” Thanks for the fun time, Nancy!

Since I need some winter images for a proper photo calendar i looked for something worth capturing during those days when we had at least a little bit of snow.

Actually the amount of snow we had wasn’t even enough to cover the grass on this hill, so I cloned out hundreds of grass blades, which was great fun.

Not.

El Partal (derived from portico) on the site of the Alhambra in Granada, Andalusia, is the last remaining remnant of the palace of Yusuf III.

From my point of view it is undoubtedly a fortunate circumstance that this building was preserved and that the large pool in front of it was created.

While driving towards Bishop, CA, I noticed the clouds suddenly part and a burst of sunlight spilled onto this hillside. I was able to quickly pull over and grab this shot before it vanished as quickly as it arrived.

Part 5

The next morning arrived and I slept in a little. Then after waking at sun touch I packed up and headed down the trail to the lake I saw from above the day before, 4th Recess Lake. It was a short hike, only about 2 miles and mostly downhill with no major uphill.

The shores of this lake were surrounded by pine forest on the northern end where the log jammed outflow creek drained into Mono Canyon, it was beneath these shade giving trees that I made my camp. The 650ft waterfall at the far southern end 0.6 mile away, filled the air with its peaceful drone. After a short break and nap, I explored the western shore where the forest broke into steep sloping meadows and swiftly rising mountainside until I could go no further. By now clouds gathered above the towering cliffs on the eastern shore and wind whipped across the surface creating small whitecaps that sloshed against the rocky western shore beneath my feet.

As the hours went by, and the sun continued it's long trek across the sky, the roaring wind calmed its temper and all became still. As the sun neared its resting place beyond the high peaks 100s of fish began jumping in the lake's now still surface beneath the vibrant alpine glow on the towering cliffs above the eastern shore. Then came the calm night spent listening to the faint distant roar of the waterfall.

While exploring this lake I struggled with photographing the large landscape photos I love the most, so I focused more on the small details of the rocks, light/shadow play, water and trees. There was one spot in particular on the eastern shore beneath the towering cliffs that caught my attention; a large, sweeping steep slope of large talus boulders that looked as though it was created in a massive rock slide that may have been the cause of the log jam at the outflow of this lake.

There is a little pond of glacial melt water that I have been looking at on google earth for several years now. It lies at the foot of Banner Glacier, in amongst the glacial moraine. To reach it I would have to climb 1250 ft in 0.8 of a mile. My goal was to do what I had done for yesterday's sunrise photo and wake up stupid early to climb up there for alpine glow, but since I have not been there before like I had for the other shot I needed to do an exploratory climb first just to see if it was possible to reach. Before leaving I had spent long hours studying satellite imagery, topo-maps and mountaineering routes, trying to determine the best possible way up to it. Now that I was finally here and able to see it with my own eyes I studied the landscape and terrain that I could see from a distance to try and confirm my planed route. I thought I had found a route that I liked that avoided as much talus and moraine as it could.

Today my plan was simple, make sure the route was climbable and that it could be done by headlamp also maybe find a site to spend the night somewhere closer, higher up the slope if I can near a spring, that would be a huge bonus.

After a successful 0.8 of a mile, 1250ft climb over 4 hours to the tarn I determined it would have been to dangerous to make the climb buy headlamp and I also did not want to do it again with a pack on. Now all I had to do was retrace my steps back down...

The Herikhuizerveld is a hilly moorland that is part of the Veluwezoom National Park in the municipality of Rheden in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is owned by Natuurmonumenten.

From the tops of some hills in Herikhuizerveld, one can look out over the valley of the river IJssel far into Germany. There are several dry valleys in the area with a steep wall on one side and a more sloping wall on the other.

The Ecotron is part of the Field Research Centre , located in the Hoge Kempen National Park. The Ecotron of Hasselt University is a large-scale research infrastructure that enables state-of-the-art controlled climate experiments to study the effects of climate and climate change on ecosystem functioning. It provides insight into the impact of climate on a given ecosystem that cannot be obtained through field experiments (too complex) or controlled laboratory experiments (too reductive).

The Ecotron of Hasselt University consists of 12 closed, sunlit units, where environmental conditions can be controlled separately. Each unit houses a lysimeter with a 3.14 m2 and 1.5 m deep soil-canopy column, where ecosystem processes can be monitored in real time.

The following variables can be monitored: air temperature, air relative humidity, air CO2 concentration, precipitation, soil water tension and soil temperature.

The following variables are monitored every 1 to 30 min: CH4 and N2O concentrations in air, atmospheric pressure, net radiation, photosynthetically active radiation, soil electrical conductivity, soil water content, soil weight and soil leachate weight.

All soil parameters are measured at 15 positions: 5 depths (10, 20, 35, 60, 140 cm) and at 3 spatial positions per depth.

In addition, suction cups sample soil water at the same 15 positions per unit.

From these variables, net ecosystem exchanges, evapotranspiration, and CH4 or N2O emissions can be calculated with high resolution and frequency.

LA COMMEDIA DELL' ARTE 2a parte

_______________________________________________

Subito inteneriscono i turisti.

Qualche bimbo ha meno di 10 anni.

Ho in mano la fotocamera con inserito l'obiettivo 300 mm.

Così facendo, riesco a vedere meglio quel che accade.

Li seguo ,

E' una guerra all'ultimo respiro.

Seconda scena:

E' il momento di tornare a riva,

dove ragazzi più grandi li aspettano a mani tese.

No miei cari amici, non vogliono aiutare i bimbi,

Fingono litigi e piccole truffe.

Mimano l'alt a tutti i contendenti.
