Lake of The Retiro, the central park of Madrid, and the monument to King Alfonso XII.
About the Retiro:

* Strictly speaking not an historical image but these Yew trees in Parque del Retiro Madrid are probably very old. Years will have been spent perfecting the cloud shapes you need a good eye and sharp secateurs. I thought the trees stood out well against the colourful wall
Cloud pruning is a Japanese method of training trees and shrubs into shapes resembling clouds. It is known as 'Niwaki', the translation of which is 'garden tree'. The style is said to depict the distilled essence of the tree. This type of pruning does not have to be used in solely Japanese-style gardens; it can be used as a feature in gardens of many different styles.

The Palacio de Cristal is situated in the Parque del Retiro in Madrid. It was inspired by it's British namesake "The Crystal Palace" in London. It was built in 1887 to exhibit flora and fauna from the Philippines. It is no longer used as a greenhouse as it has now been converted into a gallery which hosts temporary art exhibitions.
Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fav my images.
Expansive, 19th-century park with boating lake & rose garden, plus numerous fountains & statues. In the "El Parterre" section of the "Parque del Buen Retiro" in Madrid there are a series of sculptured trees that look like something out of a kids book. They are Mediterranean Cypress trees (Cupressus sempervirens).
