A church on Michigan Ave. Buddy's Pizza is there too.

Taken from the top of a parking structure in Dearborn just off Michigan.

We were on the fifth floor and this is how it was all the way down. It took us at least 30 minutes to move ten feet and at least 45 minutes to get out.

Glancing at the light falling between the buildings on Pearl Street, immediately west of the Monroe Avenue intersection, the snow fills the air. People are gathering indoors for lunch in late January, but the furniture shows that customers settle into the outdoor space during milder weather. While cities of wide roads and massive buildings dwarf people on the street, when seeing a smaller scale passage like this one, the significance of human-scale comes to mind. The anonymity of big spaces and huge structures changes to something altogether more intimate, personal, and directly palpable in a narrow place like this. As such the infinite meanings and possibilities of drifting around a city now become focused to a particular place and time. Simply by making things smaller and tighter, a person gains a tactile impression of the place.
