Thought I'd show off a Dalek design I've been using lately, that I did steal from Ghost Hunter Gunn. Well not all of it, I doubt the internals are the same, and mine are a little slimmer cos I don't like putting stuff on the studs, and the eye stalks are different as well....such original design, very wow.
Anyway, this is just a nice collection of Daleks that exist in real life, but are an absolute pain to photograph properly. Don't know what it is, but red is not a colour that comes out well in real pics.
So we've got:
- The whole gang, Warrior, Emperor and Supreme. I actually like some aspects of the Paradigm daleks, so I've used some of the colour scheme for mine. Even the Dalek Emperor is dark blue like he was in...whichever of the DW videogames he appeared in. I based him on the Golden Emperor from the Daleks! series, but not exactly. He's got a glass bit at the front where you can see the Dalek mutant inside...well you could if it were real life, in reality it's just a nougat 1x2 plate. He's also got an orange eye to show off how special he is.
- Features. I like my daleks to have as much range f motion as they can, so I build them with moveable mid sections.
- Comparison. On the right is my main Dalek design up until now. I'm still gonna use it, cos it's a really good design, but the real ones don't look like that because I don't have any whisks...really need to work on that.
And that's the lot. Looking at em, these are good renders man, really good...wonder how I managed that?

I don't suppose anyone will recognise this as it's a bit blurred but it's a bit of the Wharfe up from Yockenthwaite. More fun with a pinhole in Yorkshire :)

Winter on a mountain is a different breed of winter altogether and nothing quite sums it up like wind-blasted, ice-encrusted trees at timberline (and Timberline).

This image began as nine different variations on a color lookup table (LUT) like this one which I combined into a single image. "In data analysis applications, such as image processing, a lookup table (LUT) is used to transform the input data into a more desirable output format. For example, a grayscale picture of the planet Saturn will be transformed into a color image to emphasize the differences in its rings." (Wikipedia)
I found the LUT in the (very cool) iPad app iColorama which I used along with Repix for the initial variations. I added more on the desktop with FilterForge and finished it all off in Photoshop.
The Buffalo & Pittsburgh has taken on a fleet of ex-CSX SD60Ms & SD60Is to replace a large majority of it's current roster of SD40-2 variants. YN2 SD60I 8739 is seen at the front of the pit after a trip back from Riker the night before along with a YN3 60I keeping it company.

Paradigm Shift ... A major change in how some process is accomplished . It can certainly happen when a new piece of technology radically alters the way of doing something and, as a consequence, results in a better product.
That certainly is applicable to photography. Shooting wildlife ... especially small birds ... had lost much of its charm for me. Unable to get the detail I wanted in certain shots was quite often disappointing and resulted in a general lack of interest. But a new piece of technology is perhaps about to change all that.
This shot, and the other two I uploaded ( I don't usually do that) were taken hand held from a distance of at least twenty five feet ... from a parked vehicle, across a logging road, shooting up into a tree. Frankly, considering all that, the amount of feather detail amazed me. This same day I went on to shoot even smaller birds which were closer to me than this and the results were even better. I think I can truly say that my interest has been rekindled.
My old Sigma 150-500mm was good ... still is. No question about it! Actually, I managed to take a pretty good shot of Saturn with it a few nights ago ( with a 2x teleconverter attached). But it certainly seems as if the Sigma Sport 150- 600 is much, much better.

Memorial in Tallinn Cathedral (Toom kirik) to those who "für das Vaterland starben [died for the Fatherland], 1812-14". The 'Vaterland' the German-speaking Protestant élite of Estonia died for while fighting Napoleon was the Empire of the Tsars. 200 years ago, nationalism and the nation-state were concepts only beginning to emerge. How difficult it is for us to process that much of the mental furniture we assume is natural is very recent and perhaps transient.
This is on the left hand side of the main (south) entrance to the Toomkirik, Tallinn's Lutheran Cathedral. The liturgical language of the church became Estonian as late as 1927, when the German congregation was evicted from the building.
