The Knapp & Papermill nature reserve on Leigh Brook in Worcestershire.
This old Cottage on the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust's Knapp & Papermill nature reserve is now a home for species of bat.
The only thing you can hear is the sound of bird song and the babble of Leigh Brook. It can feel like your in the middle of nowhere sometimes, yet I'm only about six miles from the city of Worcester.
One of my favourite spring flowers doing very well at The Knapp & Papermill nature reserve in Worcestershire.

A neat paper products mill in the erm 'interesting' town of Leslie, the place is well protected by 'Heavy Breathing in the Valley*' and once in we spent half the time dodging workers stripping the remaining assets of the paper mill, ready to be shipped abroad most likely.
Film shots to follow!
*Heavy Breathing in the valley was fromt the night before, Speed & Myself arrived late one winters evening, looking for somewhere to bed down for the night, thoguht it worthwwhile checking the papermill out, so we sauntered down the workers path to be greeted with a large camera following us, the tannoy crackled into life (theres a tannoy attached to every camera in the place).
At almost concert loud'ness surely waking most of the village of leslie....
"Your on private property, yes you two, your on private property, can you please leave, yes, the other wya, turn around, back up that path please"
the tannoy crackled back off.
as we turned we just laughed that our complelty obvious approach of walking into a site had not worked (though it often does!).
The tannoy crackled back online, but there was no voice, only the sound of the operator breathing.
the breathing became louder, and deeper, and more frequent, and more excited...
it both hit us at the same time just what it sounded like, a lone security guard, suddenly awoken by two young fellas patrolling HIS site, it must hav ebeen exciting for him.
the breathing was so loud on the tannoys MOST of th village could surely hear, we were both in Hysterics, I mean so bad we could hardly walk up the muddy track without falling in it. Thank you Mr Sec Unit, you made our day :D
We slept overnight in a smaler abandoned mill then set out early in the morning via a slgihtly less obvious route, and had relative sucess :P

Beautiful star-like flowers like it's bigger cousin Greater Stitchwort growing in Papermill meadow. I almost missed them looking at some of the bigger herbs in the meadow.
There is reference in some records to a mill on the River Carron called Tamaree it milled grain.
This wonderful old truck was still in use
when I started in the mill in the early 1970's from memory it had a crash gearbox (no synchromesh) so you had to double de clutch. we moved coated bales to the solvo pulpers using tamaree. The solvo operator loved coated bales about two made a great mix where about 10 plain paper bales might be required to get the correct mix.
The recent rainfall that has caused flooding across the county also hit the Knapp & Papermill. Amongst the damage, including paths that have been washed away, is the mangled kingfisher screen hide.

Took a little trip with friends fallsguyd and Savage Gardener to this previously unknown falls in Letchworth State Park.
It was a bit of a hike to get to this point, but well worth it.
It had been overcast the whole morning, until we arrived at the falls and started shooting, of course. Between the bright sun that you see in the upper left of the photo, and my polarizer, I'm not sure the colors are quite right on this one, but it looks pretty good I think.

I have been to this 25 mile distant falls so often that it becomes challenging to take different pictures than the ones I've already taken. Therefore this is the only "standard" view I have. The foliage down there has changed, but the leaves are really not exactly gorgeous.

Wasn't much left of any turbines in the turbine hall. If it wasnt for this you probably wouldn't realise that's what it was.
Love this side shot taken on the same day my wife and I spent a sunny, beautiful Sunday at Letchworth State Park.
The nice thing about this falls is that you can get right up to it and frame wonderful shots like this.
2 shots, 0 and -2 EV, blended in photoshop. No HDR and no saturation boost.
