This was my first time making paper and I thought I would press my linoleum blocks into the paper as it was still wet.

yesterday, it warmed up again on time for making the sail boat race on the lake of San Ruffino a fine event... local crafts, foods, horse and donkey riding for kids, many came to see the race and to have a lazy picknick day.

Beautiful location, just five driving minutes from home! We hope such (well organized) happenings will attract more tourism, so many could 'profit' from a healthy exchange of giving and taking in a fantastic vacation area.

During her papermaking residency, Cara Lynch dives into the world of American glass and stenciling to create this newest body of exquisite pulp paintings. Read more about how her brightly-colored, layered works are questioning the boundaries of fine art and craft: bit.ly/caralynch.

The paper on the left had external sizing applied, the paper on the right is raw as it came from the mold.

One way to do external sizing (I'll do pictures of the process later):

-1 packet unflavoured gelatine

-a little over 1 cup water

1. Put water in saucepan, dump gelatine in and let it 'swell' for ten minutes.

2. Bring mixture to almost-boil, bring down to simmer.

3. Using a brush or a sponge, apply to one or both sides of paper, swiping across.

4. With something in between sheets so they don't stick, press to remove any excess sizing.

5. Hang sheets on a line with a slight bow across the top, as they shrink some, or dry on a surface like a window or something.

I ironed mine when they were dry to get everybody flat again.

Paper carries meaning far deeper than the words it can convey. In direct collaboration with art therapists, the Peace Paper Project brings the artistic expression of resilience and healing to communities all over the world. We learned about paper making as cultural transformation in this lecture and live demonstration.

My original Monitor Spinner did its thing on a giant CRT and was prone to falling off, especially if I turned on the fan in my cube.

I was pleasantly surprised when I got my flat LCD monitors and found they still put out enough heat to make it spin. I decided to make a second version, less susceptable to breezes. Naturally I created the template in PostScript (about 200 lines).
