Sugar palms (Borassus flabellifer), also commonly named Toddy palm or Palmyra palm, bear clusters of black fruit, each about the size of a small cabbage (10cm in diameter) containing 3 or 4 sweet, translucent-white, jelly-like seed sockets. The pulp of the ripe fruit is sugary, dense, and rich in vitamins A and C. Locally this pulp is eaten raw and unprocessed or used to make either sweet drinks or alcoholic drinks after fermentation. The tree's sap is used to make palm-sugar, which requires heating in a wok and being stirred for several hours, until golden-brown and the consistency becomes solid. Palm sugar has a unique sugary taste and is a common ingredient in Thai food.
Seen not far from home , I remember this tree as it is in a garden of a house where a friend of my grandfather lived - but that was many many years ago . It still stands proud and has had a picture or two taken of it over the years !!
A palm tree growing in someone's front garden- makes a change from roses I suppose . An early shot for next week's SSC - obviously not one now .
I remember this tree not so tall way back when a friend of my grandfather lived at this house ( must have been in the 1960s at a guess ) .

Don’t invest too much in this plant’s name. The ponytail palm (Beaucarnea recurvata) is neither a real palm nor does it have ponytails. Its swollen base looks like a palm and the long, thin leaves curve outward, then hang down like ponytails. But does the ponytail palm flower? If you are hoping for flowers and fruit from this plant, there is good news and bad news. While you can get flowering on a ponytail palm, you may have to wait up to 30 years to see it.

A tropical sunset in Curacao at the "swimming pool by the sea" at Papagayo Beach Hotel. I have just returned from a very short trip to this beautiful island.
Cette image prise de jeunes feuilles d'un Palmier main que je garde en pot propose des nuances de vert tout en douceur avec un jeu d'ombre et de lumière. #Macro #MacroMondays #Leaf
My wife and I spend the past five days with long time camping friends at the Anza Borrego Desert State Park. I think it's some kind of a law that if you go to a desert park you have to take a sunrise picture.
Other sunrise pictures that I've taken can be seen in my Sunrise/Sunset album. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/albums/72157606955366056

The mountains in Kauai are often shrouded with clouds and rain making for a beautiful and serene mood. Many of my photos are just quick shots as we drove past.
