Earlier this year I planted some wild flower seeds in my tiny garden. I now have a lovely little patch for the bees, other insects , and some amazing colour too.

The colors are created by the oxidation of different metals in the rocks: Iron compounds produce red, pink and yellow colors; decomposition of tuff-derived mica produces green colors; and manganese produces the purple color. The amazing site is known as "Artist’s Palette" and is located in Death Valley National Park, California.

The Iris has something mysterious about it. In her color palette she has colors that other flowers do not carry. And something magical. She is named after the goddess of the rainbow
Paintings of the flower can be found in the Egyptian pyramids, which scientists believe date back to 1500 BC. Even after that, the iris had a glorious life. She decorated the coats of arms of Louis XVIII (to protect against death) and was a regular model for the painter Vincent van Gogh. Irises belong to the Iris family (Idraceae)
