Fat Margaret's Tower

Paks Margareeta, or Fat Margaret, is a historic cannon tower located at the northern end of Tallinn's Old Town. Built between 1518 and 1529, it was part of the city's medieval fortifications and served as a defensive structure to protect the Great Coastal Gate. The tower's name is believed to derive from its massive size, with walls measuring up to 5 meters thick and a diameter of 25 meters. It was designed not only for defence but also to impress visitors arriving by sea.

Today, Paks Margareeta houses the Estonian Maritime Museum, which features exhibitions on Estonia's maritime history, including ship models, artefacts, and even a medieval shipwreck. Visitors can also enjoy panoramic views of Tallinn from the tower's rooftop terrace.
