As part of Packaging Design, Communication Design students from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design were also asked to develop a print ad to help sell the beverage that they "invented", named and packaged.
Uncoated CD jacket with custom hourglass diecut, 4-color insert (which makes the hourglass appear full or empty depending on how it's placed back into the jacket), and CD.
I had not done any music package design in a while and then 2011 hit and I had 3 requests all at once. This is the first one finalized. It was a good change of pace from posters and is always a challenge thinking about how a person sees CD package design in linear steps almost like a story (from initially holding it, to viewing the insert, to opening that to reveal the CD).

Additionally, I recommend working with A to Z Media ( www.atozmedia.com ) if you're looking to produce CD's, DVD's or even vinyl records. I've done a few projects with them now and they've been great every time (and don't flinch when I come to them with strange random diecut requests).

The German Black Forest had a thick and chewy center, not unlike an American brownie. This consistency was just like a brownie, but the filling was actually chocolate infused bean paste. It was unbelievably good, and for anyone living in KL totally worth the effort to get to the Concorde Hotel just to buy these things.
The final design; ready for individual canvas print.
There are various slight changes in the individual designs that were done when they were getting prepped to print onto three separate canvases.
a package symbolising egypt's most unusual and ambitous king - Akhenaten (Akenaton).
- the inspiration comes from the king's elongated head and hat, as depicted in numerous statues and plaques.
- light comes from within the bottle, to symbolize Akhenaten's worship of the sun god - the "Aten", who's symbol - the sun disc, is portrayed by the circular glass plug.

I punctured myself with my Zwilling cook's knife getting a plate from the dishwasher.
Had the hardest time opening the Hansaplast brand bandaid, packaged in some nasty plastic. Even with scissors the bandaid was still very hard to remove by hand. And all the time you're still bleeding!
Complete fail on packaging design by Hansaplast. All typed with (clean) left hand.

man, there are so many things I'd fix about this project, like the logo for starters, but meh...
Client: Table Scraps, LLC.
Description: It’s dog food disguised as human food. Sneaky: like your little thief of a dog. Apple pie cookies, and blue cheese steak are just a few of the gourmet flavors kept in these swanky little packages. He’ll be eating 100% organic dog food developed by vets, but wondering what trick he must have mastered to get so lucky. Sure, it’s a little white lie, but he’s a dog. He’ll forgive you.

Final project for my package design class. WAX is a fictional candle boutique targeted to predominantly independent, college-age females, but also males with the same sort of aesthetic tastes.
Boxes were printed on a Canon pro 9000 inkjet printer on Neenah Starwhite Tiara 100lb cover.
Sign and bag were screenprinted.
Catalog was duplex laserprinted.
The informative insert, communicating the means of proper disposal of old CFLs, which contain hazardous chemicals (ie. mercury). Also, you may notice that I've designed the package in a way that presents the screw-end of the bulb to the user. I've always hated having to touch the bulb in order to remove it from the packaging (being forced to handle something so delicate seems counter-intuitive), and I thought this would be a good occasion to remedy that.

From my Spring 2009 Package Design 1 course at Art Center College of Design. The brief was simple: redesign a compact florescent lightbulb package. Here's the description of my concept, taken from my final presentation:
The compact florescent light bulb (CFL) is a recent innovation that combines radically reduced electricity usage with a significantly longer bulb life span. While the bulbs themselves are appealing to the environmentally conscious, the packaging for the bulbs has been less than environmentally friendly. Until now.
Made from 100% recycled White-Line newsback and printed with soy inks, this packaging compliments the eco-friendly contents. The box includes information on proper disposal for CFLs and a postage-paid mail return sticker, enabling the consumer re-use the original packaging when returning the bulb to GE for proper disposal.
Finally, extensive research has shown that if a customer can be persuaded to take a GE product off the shelf, there is a 70% chance they will purchase it. This innovative and refreshing package design will ensure that the GE CFLs will stand out, making this a good choice for the environment, as well as GE’s bottom line.
