But a Christmas Eve snow

A day early this year...

___________

Even though we remain hovering right at the freezing point, early this morning big, fluffy, and wet snowflakes began to fall, continuing even now and providing a beautiful, fresh white accent to the landscape...the northwoods' annual celebration of the season. This shot, as with so many others over the years, taken from my deck.

[This is also the time of year at which I get confused as to whom I've wished Season's Greetings and to whom I have not. Forgive me if I repeat myself and, in the spirit of the holidays, be patient with an old man, accepting good wishes however often they may be repeated. It's the thought, not the memory, that counts. ;-))]

The silver Y is a medium-sized moth with a wingspan of 30 to 45 mm. The wings are intricately patterned with various shades of brown and grey providing excellent camouflage. In the centre of each forewing there is a silver-coloured mark shaped like a letter Y or a Greek letter Gamma. There are several different forms with varying colours depending on the climate in which the larvae grow. The head almost seems like a head of a monkey.

New year Greetings to all of you who have visited my stream this last year and thank you for providing such pleasure from your own shots.

The Garden sits nestled in the West Hills of Portland, Oregon overlooking the city and providing a tranquil, urban oasis for locals and travelers alike. Designed in 1963, it encompasses 12 acres with eight separate garden styles, and includes an authentic Japanese Tea House, meandering streams, intimate walkways, and a spectacular view of Mt. Hood. This is a place to discard worldly thoughts and concerns and see oneself as a small but integral part of the universe.

Born out of a hope that the experience of peace can contribute to a long lasting peace. Born out of a belief in the power of cultural exchange. Born out of a belief in the excellence of craft, evidence in the Garden itself and the activities that come from it. Born out of a realization that all of these things are made more real and possible if we honor our connection to nature.

With The Odle providing the remarkable backdrop the Rifugio Malga Brogles nestles below those amazing cliffs and apparently offers a most welcome refreshment stop. Needless to say as non of our party had read the small print in the guide books it was something of a blow to realise after hiking for a few hours that it only opened in July and August. We were parched and hungry and would have to wait several more hours until we returned to Ortesei.

Zo is men o.a. op de RB 77 onderweg. Op 18 april 2022 kon ik te Vlotho treinstel 648 184 fotograferen. Als RB 14464 naar Löhne (Westf) had de trein net de brug over de Weser gepasseerd.

The company "Start Deutschland GmbH" is responsible for providing passenger trains on several small lines in Northrhine-Westphalia. On of these lines is the RB77 - running between Bünde (Westf) and Hildesheim Hbf. On April 18th 2022 I spotted on of these trains - seen here is railcar 648 184 as regional train 14464 to Löhne (Westf).

Today is the 20th day of Valentine's month of February. Caring is an important part of life, I love to care for others in many different ways, helping, supporting, healing, embracing, looking after, teaching, providing welfare, protecting, and attending to others.

I would also like to mention and thank those in the teaching, medical, food production, and teaching.

Bruno Mars - Count on me lyrics

"Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh.

There was a pause.

"Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet.

"No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I don't think I do."

"That's okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend.

"What are you doing?" asked Pooh.

"Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite

often don't feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either.

"But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you

know you've got someone there for you. And I'll always be here for you, Pooh."

And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the

solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought

that his best friend had never been more right.

Providing a good look at the top of its head. I think that's the correct ID. I can't see any other bird on the internet with this marking.

Providing a nice throwback to what this section of railroad looked like over 27 years ago is BNSF train Q-CHIALT3-09A led by a pair of Warbonnet Dash 9's, one a 600 class and the other a 700 class. Here, they're back on the move on Main Track 1 of the BNSF Marceline Sub near the detector at MP 420. 7 after holding here for a little bit while waiting for traffic ahead to clear.

Here we in 2022 and red and silver pairs are still possible to find. These ATSF 600's are looking very rough these days and the sun was pretty high here, but I have a hard time passing up a chance to shoot a pair of Warbonnets out on the Transcon, especially with a nice, long cut of JB Hunt stacks. Aside from the newer signals and worn out paint, if you squint your eyes, this could almost be 1994. 5/10/22.

WONDERFUL FACTS: The osprey or more specifically the western osprey (Pandion haliaetus) - also called sea hawk, river hawk, and fish hawk - is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey with a cosmopolitan range. It is a large raptor

The osprey tolerates a wide variety of habitats, nesting in any location near a body of water providing an adequate food supply. It is found on all continents except Antarctica, although in South America it occurs only as a non-breeding migrant. (wikipedia)

Credits to NASA for providing PBR and HDRI textures for 3D artists for non-commercial creations.

Several images are used to create this Blend, among others a diffuse texture (basically a picture of the earth without clouds, relief or illumination), a normal texture (to create the relief), an illumination image (for the lights at night), a cloud image (to create a cloud layer) etc. It also requires setting up a few transparency masks so that you can prevent the illumination texture from showing up in the part of the earth covered by sunlight.

I had to keep an eye on the temperature of my Graphics card for this one. With low res images it is feasible but if you want to create more detailed relief, you need hi res images, and then my GPU temperature shot up. So I ended up making the thing in low res first, then in solid view I replaced the textures with higher resolution ones, and then briefly changed to rendered mode and quickly took a screen shot instead of rendering it out.

Dawn breaks on the River Thames, providing a magnificent natural backdrop to gems of architecture from Sir Christopher Wren's baroque St Paul's Cathedral, the elegant art deco Oxo Tower, the 1980s Weetabix boxes in the core of the Square Mile, and weird modern shapes like the Walkie Takie and the Cheese Grater. In the distance, the new, or at least new-er, financial district at Canary Wharf can also be seen.

Keeping up with this migrant Yellow Wagtail this spring proved fun as it would often hide itself in the furrows, and walked off deep into the fields of cereal plantations. Here I caught it at a small water puddle by side of road, providing a pretty nice shot I think - thanks for viewing my photos

With Detroit providing the backdrop "Corridor" VIA train 72 departs Windsor (Walkerville) station. They're about to enter CTC territory here where they will then be able to do track speed. At one time this location had multiple tracks with freight and passenger service from CN and Wabash/N&W/NS. It's also kind of crazy that the western terminus of VIA's busy Windsor-Quebec Corridor is 15mp/h jointed rail. The track on the left is the spur and switch back that Essex Terminal uses to work Hiram Walker Distillery which can be seen very far in the distance near the next crossing. Also of note 915 is still in its original "Renaissance" paint scheme. Pretty soon all 21 of VIA's P42DCs will be retired and replaced with new Siemens trainsets.

After a covid induced hiatus in 2020 the Providence and Worcester Railroad was back this year providing their passenger train and crew for the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council's extremely popular Polar Express trains which ran from Woonsocket to the North Pole (aka the Buma Funeral Home in Uxbridge!) and return. They ran a total od 32 sold out trips running this season but all but two ran at 4 PM and 7 PM meaning there was little opportunity for daylight photography. However they did schedule two 1 PM runs this year which drew me out to try my best on both days. Alas both turned out to be dark gloomy days with no prayer of sun, though in all honesty I enjoy the challenge of gloomy weather shooting and actually got several images I'm pretty fond of that I've already shared here. So though I hope next year brings sunny 1 PM days I have no regrets about this year.

Since I was already in the area I hung around till 4 PM both days for one 'last light' attempt of them departing northbound in the 'blue hour'. 4001 (GE B40-8 (blt. Jun. 1988 as NYSW 4004) leads the 4 PM train away from the historic 1882 depot and through a granite block walled trench in this ultra wide view looking down from the shoulder of aptly named Railroad Street. The train is passing under Arnold Street and will momentarily duck beneath the out of service Slatersville Branch right behind me and pass the small yard here at about MP 16.4.

King's Cross railway station, also known as London King's Cross, is a passenger railway terminus in the London Borough of Camden, on the edge of Central London. It is in the London station group, one of the busiest stations in the United Kingdom

The station was opened in Kings Cross in 1852 by the Great Northern Railway on the northern edge of Central London to accommodate the East Coast Main Line. It quickly grew to cater to suburban lines and was expanded several times in the 19th century. It came under the ownership of the London and North Eastern Railway as part of the Big Four grouping in 1923, who introduced famous services such as the Flying Scotsman and locomotives such as Mallard. The station complex was redeveloped in the 1970s, simplifying the layout and providing electric suburban services, and it became a major terminus for the high-speed InterCity 125. As of 2018, long-distance trains from King's Cross are run by London North Eastern Railway to Edinburgh Waverley, Leeds and Newcastle; other long-distance operators include Hull Trains and Grand Central

In the late 20th century, the area around the station became known for its seedy and downmarket character, and was used as a backdrop for several films as a result. A major redevelopment was undertaken in the 21st century, including restoration of the original roof, and the station became well known for its association with the Harry Potter books and films, particularly the fictional Platform 9+3⁄4.
