Last week the weather was gorgeous in Holland. Lucky us that we had planned a couple of days on board of the "Tembo". We had moored her for the night in a small river, up in the North of Holland, near Sloten. With the temperature still some 25 degrees I climbed down to the swimming platform, dangled my feet in the water, a lovely glass of red, having a nice chat with a friendly neighbour and hubby beside me; what more could a girl want! Well..... except maybe....hubby on the other side of me! Because at that moment daddy Grebe had caught himself some lovely sashimi for the chicks and ran, Coot-style, over the water to the family. I had never seen a Grebe doing that! Of course by the time I had put down my glass and had the camera ready with Hans between me and the 'water walking Grebe', it was long gone. Hans remarked dryly: "you've missed". Still don't know if he meant the Grebe or his nose (with the swaying long lens) :-)
We switched places but I really didn't expect the Grebe to repeat his run. Still kept an eye open though. All of a sudden there was this familiar cry again: "Dinner!!" and off daddy went again, straight to where I sat. This time I was a bit faster.. :-) Turned out it was the only chance I got, because afterwards he never did it again.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Captured this robin with her catch as she landed on our balcony railing.
Hope your new week is off to a great start. Thanks for visiting.
Probably only providing for himself, seeing that other birds have been given the task of feeding any offspring of this parasite and his partner.

The Scotia provider is being reworked on the dock on St George Street...on the water front. This repair facility is right there among all the tourist shops, etc. It was really interesting to see the progress that they have made in the past few days.

Our aircraft is a troop transport “Provider”. It was delivered to the USAF on December 20, 1955, based in Europe the aircraft was used by the 1127th Field Activities Squadron (USAFE), in Leopoldville Congo during the 1965 Simba Uprising. Returning to the United States it became part of the 1st Air Commando Squadron before 1972 when it was transferred to the AF Reserve at Rickenbacker AFB, Ohio. Retiring from service in September 1981 it flew into March Field to become part of the collection. This aircraft is on loan from the NMUSAF
There are several of these water pumps on the entire coast of the River Plate. One while strolling along the coast can see this without problems. But what is very unusual is to see a sailboat sailing so close to them. In the background you can see a large charger ship crossing the channel that communicates with the Parana river. "Hey kids , I'm bringing sushi for lunch". I love how graceful these big birds are , even with a fistful of catfish.

This is a Dark-eyed Junco Mama collecting insects for her babies. I loved the fact that she has so many in her bill and she even collected quite a variety. She certainly was a good provider for her offspring.
I hope everyone enjoys this image! :)
The scientific name for this species is: Junco hyemalis.
OK, so it might not be everyone's idea of a yummy appetizer, but to the burrowing owls ... this is about as good as it gets. LOL
Taken during the spring of 2017, I think back fondly of the burrowing owls in Florida. They have such personalities and are full of expressions and silly antics. The parents, in my opinion, are some of the best in the bird world, and make excellent providers. Here, this adult will be most likely feeding it to its mate in the burrow ... or delivering it to the delight of its young to affectionately
"fight" over.
Thanks so much for stopping by on this Wednesday!

Thanksgiving is a
time of gratitude to God,
our Creator and Provider,
whose guidance and care
go before us...
and whose love
is with us forever.
Thanksgiving is a time
to reflect on the changes,
to remember that we, too,
grow and change
from one season of life to another.
Thanksgiving is a time
of changing seasons,
when leaves turn golden
in Autumn's wake
and apples are crisp
in the first chill breezes of fall.
Let us remember the true meaning
of Thanksgiving.
As we see the beauty
of Autumn, let us acknowledge
the many blessings
which are ours...
let us think of our families
and friends..
and let us give thanks in our hearts.

The Fairchild C-123 Provider was a versatile military transport aircraft. Introduced in the 1950s, it had a maximum speed of 246 mph, a range of 1,471 miles, and could carry up to 61 troops or 24,000 lbs of cargo. Powered by twin Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engines, it played key roles in various military missions.
This little chap brought great news today A new mate. I found a dead owl about six weeks ago under the roost, so was fearful we wouldn't hear the patter of little owlets this year. All looks good he is charming her with gifts of food and judging by the state of his plumage nesting is well underway.
I stopped by Abby's nest this past Monday and was happy to finally see that there were what I thought was 2 chicks .
At this young age they spend most of their time laying low, so I'd never get more than a glimpse of one popping up for a second or two before disappearing again.
On Tuesday I stopped back when I had more time to observe.
John showed back up with lunch, flew into the nest for a minute, and then took back off to sit on a pole and make sure the fish was no longer flapping, before bringing it back to the kids.
When I was checking the series of shots I took as he was flying off with the fish, this was the very last shot in the series....and the only one that revealed that there are actually not two, but THREE chicks!! Triplets! How cool!
East Lake Union at a really pastel-coloured sunset with fishing vessels Alaska Provider and Alaska Endeavor. Ink, oil pastel, and watercolour wash. Spoke to Noel, one of the three marine engineers on the Alaska Provider (I presume one for each 8-hour shift), who stopped to look at my drawing. They leave in 6 weeks for Alaska to catch perch and cod. He described waves in the Bering Sea three times the height of their vessel. (Vessel is also featured in the series Deadliest Catch.)

Clark's grebes with two chicks and one fish on Lake Almanor, Plumas County, California.
Although Northern California got quite a lot of rain last winter, only 100 chicks hatched this year from 700 nests on Lake Almanor. Why? The water level dropped too rapidly due to a release that occurred a few weeks before this photo was taken. These two chicks were among the 100 that hatched in the three days before the release.
The grebes whose first nesting attempts failed were building new nests. Perhaps their second nesting attempt will be successful.
The male parent of this breeding pair of barred owls has just delivered a meal to the female and is off to hunt again. I was hoping to get an owl in flight that morning, but never expected to get two in a shot like this. Have you ever laughed out loud after making a picture? This is the jpeg from the camera unprocessed. If you look closely, you can see the tail of the field mouse or rat hanging out of the females mouth. Please be respectful of the nesting area if you visit. Colleyville Nature Center, Texas, USA, April 2016

Sandy. In my sickness she has been a constant companion and comfort. Things seem to be taking a turn for the better, but we're still waiting.
Also, we're very saddened today at news of the passing of dear old Chester. Rest peacefully friend.
Although the bluebirds are happy to take the live mealworms I put out, they are both excellent hunters, skilled at bringing back these big larva to feed their babies.

If we think we are not all that bad, the idea of grace will never change us - Tim Keller
23 for fall have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 gand are justified hby his grace as a gift, ithrough the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God jput forward as ka propitiation lby his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in mhis divine forbearance he had passed over nformer sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
27 oThen what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28 For we hold that one is justified by faith papart from works of the law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30 since God is one—who will justify the circumcised by faith and sthe uncircumcised through faith. 31 Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.
