Statuary at the Shelby County Courthouse, Memphis Tennessee. This figure represents Prosperity and was sculpted from solid blocks of Tennessee marble, the building was constructed of blue Bedford limestone and was dedicated in 1910.
The Shelby County Courthouse, located in Memphis on Adams Avenue between North 2nd and North 3rd Streets, was designed by James Gamble Rogers and completed in 1909. This Neo-classic pile features a long portico topped by a cornice supported by massive Ionic columns. The ambitious sculptural program executed by J. Massey Rhind includes the pediment groups, Canon Law, Roman Law, Statutory Law, Civil Law and Criminal Law. Female allegorical figures can be found on the north facade cornice representing Integrity, Courage, Mercy, Temperance, Prudence and Learning. Flanking the main entrances are over life sized seated figures embodying Wisdom, Justice, Liberty, Authority, Peace and Prosperity. It is also featured in the movie The Silence of the Lambs as the place where Dr. Hannibal Lecter escapes custody.

The Scholl Chair in International Business and the Project on Prosperity and Development have examined the myriad ways that the private sector can engage emerging markets. Demand for private capital will certainly exceed supply, leading to the conclusion that economies which enhance investor return and minimize risk will be most successful in attracting private investment. Join us for the launch of A New Development Agenda: Trade, Investment, Procurement as we bring together stakeholders from the public and private sectors, academia, and the non-profit to discuss these important and timely issues.
Chinese New Year is creeping around the corner! Woohoo!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with this celebration. Saved you a few clicks! :)
Summing it up, it's the time of the year to eat loads, drink loads, gamble loads, and the best part - paying visits to relatives and receiving red packets! :) Kinda like robbery, but a legal version of it. Haha. Love it to bits!
And oh, if you're wondering how is my picture related to this celebration; for us Chinese, the color red signifies prosperity, and most of us would try our best to dress in red to go with the flow of the festivity. RED RED RED ALL THE WAY!
Also, a little late for HBW, my bad!
