Volunteers are the heart and soul of any non-profit organization. Sisters Brittany and Stephanie helped with children's activities at Jay Day including apple stamping canvas bags. Brittany volunteered the day before too for National Public Lands Day.

Growing exponentially in membership support from Westchester and Fairfield counties, the Jay Heritage Center (JHC) hosted its annual Fall Family Festival this past Sunday, September 25th, celebrating American culture and traditions. Highlights included costumed tours of JHC's Sesquicentennial Civil War Exhibit "The Jays and the Abolition of Slavery" along with traditional music and activities for all ages.

The event was organized by JHC's Young Preservationists, a group of parents committed to the adaptive reuse of John Jay's landmark home as a community learning center for children and adults, a place furnished with lively ideas and people, not just furniture. The fresh vision of co-presidents, Emma Hanratty and Caroline Wallach had great resonance as over 1200 people showed up to applaud their efforts while munching on crisp autumn apples and sipping cider. The weather held as parents and kids painted pumpkins and ran 3 legged races in the old Jay meadow; the property thrummed with traditional folk tunes like Oh Susannah provided by the duo Cracked Walnuts. Nate the jackstock donkey was back courtesy of Tilly Foster Farm and reminded visitors that the Jay estate was once itself a working farm with plentiful crops and gardens. Farmer's market offerings of pumpkin muffins and homemade jams were on hand thanks to Meredith's Bread from Kingston while Cocoa out of neighboring Larchmont satisfied sweet cravings with artisanal chocolates and brownies. The place was filled with butterflies - both the winged wildlife that naturally adorns the landscape as well as vivid butterfly painted faces and balloon animals to take home courtesy of James Daniels.

Grownups had plenty to see too as veteran JHC archaeologist, Dr. Eugene Boesch, displayed the Paleo Indian and archaic woodland artifacts he has recovered from the grounds of this national treasure including a 4000 year old projectile point. Bruce Macdonald of Ashwood Restoration opened up his preservation workshop and explained the challenges involved in recreating mahogany spindles for the mansion's 19th century staircase. At the 1907 Carriage House, families saw a sustainable dollhouse and learned that their footprints matter in a power point presentation on invasive trees and plants threatening New York State habitats. But many parents and grandparents were content to just sit in wicker rockers on the veranda to watch their children play and drink in the unequalled view of New York State's oldest man-managed meadow a vista famously dubbed "a time funnel" to the past.

The event was part of the Hudson River Valley Ramble weekend which celebrates American heritage in New York State. It also cooincided with President Obama's call to service for National Public Lands, encouraging volunteers all over America to get more involved in the parks they love like the Jay Property.

About the Steve Nash Foundation

About the Foundation

Formed in 2001, given U.S. charitable status in 2004, and Canadian charitable status in 2007, the Steve Nash Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to assisting underserved children in their health, personal development, education and enjoyment of life. Like its NBA MVP founder, the Foundation is fast becoming a leader in assists . . . to a slightly shorter population.

Through our own initiatives, and through grants to public service and nonprofit entities in British Columbia, the Foundation aims to grow health in kids by funding projects that provide direct services to children affected by poverty, illness, abuse, or neglect, and create opportunity for education, health, and empowerment. We love the opportunity to get involved in the good work being done by child-focused ngo’s in our home province.

The Foundation also seeks to afford thoughtful solutions to community needs through our own projects to address critical health and education needs. The Foundation focuses its resources on underserved populations of children in British Columbia, Arizona, and the country of Paraguay. Equipping a neonatal intensive care ward in Asuncion to provide basic necessities for infants and their families, developing an early childhood education center of excellence to bring best practices to young kids that don’t always enjoy that access in Arizona, and uniting civic outreach, corporate and social service organizations to show kids how to get involved in their communities are examples of the daily work of the Foundation’s small but dedicated staff. Stemming from our first ever Steve Nash Foundation Charity Classic, held in Toronto, Ontario, in 2005, the Foundation is also working closely with the City to establish an all-access, all-kids after-school center there to build hope through hoops for kids.

While our work focuses exclusively on child welfare, we believe that corporations must share responsibility for the well-being of our communities. The Foundation employs and encourages environmentally-friendly office practices, and offers grantees assistance in developing their own recycling and energy conservation programs (check out our Green Leaf here). We also like to highlight the important work of other individuals and organizations, using our website links to increase their exposure, and contribute to their efforts. Further, we are proud to be working with young people that excel in their chosen fields, from whom we welcome energetic leadership and fresh voices.

Purple Hearts Reunited Press Release --08 July 2018

At 11am on 07 August 2018, National Purple Heart Day, the non-profit foundation Purple Hearts Reunited will reunite eight families with their lost Purple Heart Medals. Themed as “Eight on the Seven” (a tie into 8-7-18), this day will honor families who represent our nation’s heroes from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the War on Terror. The event will take place in the Kennedy Caucus Room, Russell Senate Building, SR-325, Washington, D.C. When servicemen and women are wounded or sacrifice their life in times of War, our country awards the service member or their family with a prestigious award in the form of the Purple Heart. Certain circumstances can lead to these medals being misplaced, lost, or even stolen. Below is a short description of the eight medals being returned in August.

1. WWI, PFC Joseph Mark Hish: Joseph was born 06 January 1895 in Ridge Township, Shelby County, Illinois. He would go onto enlist in the U.S. Army and served with Company A, 341st Machine Gun Battalion, 177th Infantry Brigade, 89th Infantry Division in World War I. He and his unit participated in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive from 29 September to 11 November 1918. During this offensive, he was gassed and received Purple Heart # 68772. He passed on 29 December 1963. His medal will be returned to his son, 90-year-old Air Force Veteran, Joseph M. Hish Jr. of Hartington, Nebraska.

2. WWI, CPT Sebert Norman Perry: Sebert was born 22 March 1891 in New York City, New York. He enlisted on 15 December 1917 in the United States Marine Corps. First gassed on 15 July 1918, he spent five weeks recovering in a field hospital, rejoining his unit on 07 September 1918. Four days later, when the American drive opened, he was wounded by shrapnel in his arm at St. Mihiel. He saw action at Chateau Thierry, Soisson, and St. Mihiel. He would later join the U.S. Army on 25 July 1942 for service in World War II. He would obtain the rank of Captain in the Quartermaster Corps as a Procurement Officer. His medal was found in an antique shop in 1979. His medal will be returned to his three Granddaughters from Spring City, Pennsylvania.

3. WWII, 1SG Fred Mueller: Fred was born 15 August 1914 in Ireton, Iowa. He enlisted on 14 December 1942 and was assigned to D Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He was killed in action on 06 June 1944, “D-Day” in the Wood of Limors, Varenguebec, France. While approaching their Airborne drop, his plane came under heavy flak fire. It exploded in mid-air. His medal was found by retired Air Force Captain, Mr. Steve Ament, in his late Grandfather’s belongings. His medal will be returned to his Granddaughter, Ms. Kristi Bonfigt of Chandler, Arizona.

4. WWII, TSGT Thomas Maynard Williams Jr: “Maynard” was born on 21 August 1922 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. He enlisted on 09 October 1940 into U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1943 he was sole survivor of a training plane crash in Kansas. He then served in China, where he survived a bailout while returning from a mission, and India for a year before transferring to the Marianas in April 1944. He participated in his first raid over Yawata, Japan, in June 1944, and shot down his first Japanese plane in November 1944 in a raid on Omura, Japan. Days before his second wedding anniversary his wife was notified that he had been missing over Tinian since 24 May 1945. His medal was discovered in a cedar chest that belonged to Ms. Barbara Scott’s deceased mother. His medal will be returned to his niece, Mrs. Marcia Trawick of Norway, South Carolina.

5. WWII, CQM Ray Charles Ayers: Ray was born 09 October 1908 in Virginia to Walter Edward and Annie Lee Cheek Ayers. At the time of his death, he was married to Marie Theresa Siros. They had one child, Ronald Charles, who was just two when his father was Killed in Action 01 March 1942. Ray served during WWII with U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. He was aboard the cruiser USS Houston (CA-30) that was sunk by the Japanese during the Battle of Sunda Strait on 28 February 1942 in the Java Sea (northwest of Australia, just off the Indonesian west coast). The ship carried 1,068 crewmen, but only 291 sailors and Marines survived both the attack and being prisoners of war. He was severely wounded during The Battle of Hwanggan, which took place on July 23–29,1950. He was evacuated from the front lines but unfortunately died while in a hospital in Tokyo, Japan. He was awarded the Bronze Star w/ "V" Device and Purple Heart. His medal was found by the deceased Kathi Ann Lewis of Cypress, Texas. It is not known where she found it. His medal will be returned to his Niece, Mrs. Helen Sabatini of Rochester, New York.

7. Vietnam, SFC Billy Dale Evans: Billy was born 08 March 1931 in Hooks, Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on 15 July 1950 and served in both Korea and Vietnam. In Korea, he served from 23 June 1951-02 April 1953 with the 363rd Ordinance Ammunition Company. In Vietnam, he served with the U.S. Army Green Berets on Detachment C-1 (Company C, Danang), under the operation B- 52 Project Delta. For his heroism from 29-31 March 1967, he was award the Distinguished Service Cross, our nation’s second highest decoration. It is rumored he was considered for the Medal of Honor for a secret mission in Cambodia, but we have not been able to verify that to date. He was finally released from service on 30 June 1973 with 23 years of service. He would survive the war and passed on 27 January 2003 at the age of 71. This medal, and 12 other medals belonging to Veterans were sent to PHR anonymously. His medal will be returned to his daughter Ms. Myrtle Totty and Grandson Mr. Damon Mason of Newark, Texas.

8. Iraq, SSG Michael Thomas Jeffrey: Michael was born 07 April 1978. Hailing from West Des Moines, Iowa, Michael enlisted into the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout. SSG Jeffrey was assigned to Company D, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. During combat operations in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, SSG Jeffrey was wounded in action on 04 October 2006. To recover from his injuries, he was sent to a Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Knox, Kentucky. While there, they presented him with a Purple Heart medal. When he returned home, he realized it was not his and was rather engraved with another name. He will receive a new Purple Heart, and have it officially presented for the first time.

All travel expenses for the families are being covered by the organization.

The original Purple Heart, designated as the Badge of Military Merit, was established by George Washington – then the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army – by order from his Newburgh, New York headquarters on August 7, 1782. The Badge of Military Merit was only awarded to three Revolutionary War soldiers by Gen. George Washington himself. General Washington authorized his subordinate officers to issue Badges of Merit as appropriate. From then on, as its legend grew, so did its appearance. Although never abolished, the award of the badge was not proposed again officially until after World War I. General Douglas MacArthur, confidentially reopened work of a new design and by Executive Order of the President of the United States, the Purple Heart was revived on the 200th Anniversary of George Washington's birth, out of respect to his memory and military achievements, by War Department General Order No. 3, dated February 22, 1932. Today, the Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving, on or after April 5, 1917.

An estimated 1.8 Million Purple Hearts have been awarded in our nation’s history. Today, in addition to being awarded to those who fight overseas, the Purple Heart is also given to military personnel who display bravery and valor as prisoners of war and while fighting certain types of domestic terrorist.

Purple Hearts Reunited is a nonprofit foundation that returns medals of valor to veterans or their families in order to honor their sacrifice to the nation. Since its beginning, the organization has returned over 500 lost medals, traveled over 100,000 miles, visited over 42 States, and has directly affected the lives of over 1 Million people. They were also recently highlighted on the popular History Channel show American Pickers.

As if Tesco didn't earn enough money to start with. I'd like to think that I'm not alone when I don't even comprehend what exactly you have to do to misidentify profits to the tune of a quarter of a billion pounds but I think it's some kind of masterclass that id-iom needs to be taking a part of. Anyway, we racked our brains to see if we could possibly imagine what kind of fantastic device you would use to achieve such extravagant imaginary profits and here is the kind of apparatus I envisaged they were using at Tesco HQ to pump those profits up like a balloon. Like it says on the packaging:

"Please remember that overinflated profits can lead to the auditors being called in. People may get sacked and your business may be at risk"

You have been warned. Please use responsibly.

Cheers

This is a photograph from the Castlepollard 5KM Road Race and Fun Run 2014 which was held in Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 13th August 2014 at 20:00. The race is hosted by North Westmeath Athletic Club. The race has grown in stature and popularity over the years and is now one of the most well attended road races in the midlands. The race offers prizes in all categories. Castlepollard 5KM Road Race attempts to support young runners and walkers by organising a range of underage races around the town square before the adult race at 20:00. Profits from the race go towards grassroots athletics in the region - North Westmeath Athletics, Schools Cross Country, and local community games.

Reading on a Smartphone or tablet? Don't forget to scroll down further to read more about this race and see important Internet links to other information about the race! You can also find out how to access and download these photographs.

The Castlepollard 5KM can be considered as the final major race in summer road racing in the midlands as with the fading light of the late summer comes less opportunities to hold races in the evening time. Castlepollard is a small town located in North County Westmeath amongst the lakes of Lough Lene and Lough Derravagh. One of the enduring symbols of the Castlepollard 5KM is the tireless work of Andy MacEoin of North Westmeath AC who has been a visitor to almost every road race in the Midlands and beyond over the past number of months to publicize the event. Many of the participants tonight will have seen Andy's strategically placed advertising signs around other road race routes. Certainly this work, and that of many other members of North Westmeath AC, has paid off well.

The race begins near the center of the town square and proceeds directly out the R395 towards Coole and Edgeworthstown. The first KM is flat and quick allowing the field to spread out. The race then enters the Tullynally Castle estate and proceeds up the tree-lined avenue. The gardens, like the castle are on a grand scale, taking in nearly 12 acres. This allows the race to make a big loop of the gardens with a quick downhill stretch followed by a sharp climb before the race rejoins it's outgoing path for the final 1.5KM of the race. The final 1100M from the gate of the Castle grounds to the finish is as the first - fast and flat and allows for a great finish passing the GAA grounds with finish line just outside the local Fire Station.

One of the show pieces of the race landscape is Tullynally Castle. The name Tullynally is an adaption of 'Tulaigh an Eallaigh' – the Hill of the Swan. The hill overlooks Lough Derravaragh, the legendary lake of the Children of Lir who were turned into swans. Tullynally Castle is still a family home to this day. Details of visitor times and other information is available on the links below.

This year over 450 participants took part in the race. This represented another great attendance. Last year's Castlepollard 5KM set the bar very high for future races with a record participation of just under 470 on the night. The race in 2013 showed an increase of over 100 participants from the previous record of 366 set at the 2012 event. It goes without saying that the Castlepollard 5KM has become one of the "must do" road race events in the midlands. Everything that is good about club road racing in Ireland can be found here.

We have a large set of photographs from the event today. The full set is accessible at: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/14714159280/ - They were taken at the start and finish of the event.

We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Creative Commons aims to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

Cattolica, fotografie anteprima pubblicazione 2010 "Amando Cattolica"

Presidente Regione Emilia Romagna

Vasco Errani

Regione Emilia Romagna Il Presidente

I have owned this cash register for several decades now, of which I rescued from a fire damaged pharmacy on New York's Lower East Side around 1995. (At that time, one of the owners of the pharmacy chain I was working for (Thriftway Pharmacy) had a side business of buying out sundries & merchandise from bankrupt and smoke/water damaged retail stores at substantially cut prices, and reselling them at nominal prices thereby substantially increasing the profit margin.

In the process of clearing out one such place, I happened upon this cash register lying on its side under the pharmacy shelves in about 2 inches of murky water.

To be quite honest, it almost was not rescued, as my transportation that day was my bosses brand new Mercedes 500SEL, and as you can imagine he was extremely reluctant in allowing some dripping, sooty monstrosity in his new car. He wouldn't even allow it in the trunk. I managed to convince him to allow me to take it but only after I wrapped it in three contractor bags and agreed to hold it in my lap for the hour long ride home.

Upon my getting it home, I immediately proceeded to clean it up. I took note that one of the glass panels were broken (the customer side) and the top glass completely gone. The NO SALE flag was also missing. I had my local glazier cut me replacement glass and I installed it, but not before I made a crude NO SALE flag out of cardboard and a Qtip..

The dealer markings reflect that this machine was sold by:

Bronx Cash Register

341 East 149 Street,

Bronx, NY

established 1912,

MOtt Haven 9-5888

As it turned out Bronx Cash Register was still in business and I contacted them but they could not offer information, sales records or parts.

It operates fairly smoothly, then out of the blue, the keys will jam. I learned the mechanism pretty well from my cleaning, so I pretty much know how to unjam it without too much effort. Upon my examination I discovered that someone very crudely tried to repair the dollar position advance wheel and cam on the days tally wheel.

The tally advance up to 99 cents but does not advance the to the next dollar. I loosened up the set screw and pushed it off to the side, disabling the dollar advance.

After getting it all cleaned and lubricated I put some circa 1928 currency and older silver coinage in it. And it sat on my desk in my room for years. My father enjoyed its presence as he also had an National cash register (see other album), but his is a much younger Model 1098 that came from a toy store "Waldell's Hobbies on Cortelyou Road, Brooklyn) that bought out. (Model 1098 - s/n 2726474). I think is can be a safe conclusion that my affection for cash registers came from him!

After the internet makes its way into my life, I was able to determine it is a 300 series.

I subsequently move upstate and continued displaying it and has been a focal point of my furnishings.

Recently, events in my life have seen me relocate to Texas and of course, the register came with me. Space is a little more at a premium, so it was in storage. So for a rainy day project today, I decided to get the register out of storage and clean it up. Also, the keys got jammed again when a friend tried to operate it.

So, I took the case apart, vacuumed and blew down the innards with an air nozzle, and got the mechanism to release. Somehow that welded cam wheel slipped back to its original place in moving.

I lubricated all moving parts with a liberal application of PB Blaster and wipe down. Upon reassembly, and as I now had the advantage of the internet as a resource for parts and information, I decided to do a little research

After finding a lot of 300 series in brass, I found none painted. This made me slightly suspicious. Mine is clearly black wrinkle finish paint. Honestly, it appears quite well done, with all parts inside & out evenly coated. I couldn't help but feel it was a factory paint. I searched eBay, and the web, but alas couldn't not find a painted model.

I learned where the model number should be, but on first exam, it was not present on my machine and my tag area appeared blank. But, after a closer exam, there were in fact screws holding down a plate, so after quick work with a screwdriver, I realized the model s/n tag had been screwed on to the machine face down and painted over! This must have been done before I owned it as I would not have done such a thing..

This would now lead me to believe the machine has been painted after original purchase and now perhaps not original as I once thought.

Once I turned the tag over, I learned it was a Model 312, with s/n 1283677. (Made after 6/6/1913 if I understand the data records correctly). I also took the cash drawer out and read the guarantee label affixed to the bottom:

Register Number 2388283

Size 711

Finish Mah

Tracer (blank)

Customer (blank)

Not listed on the label but confirmed from collector websites is the ornate pattern on the case is "Dolphin" and was designed by none other the Tiffany.

So now my questions. Internet references reflect the following versions of the Model 312:

( A ) Bronze, oxidized and relieved

This cabinet was a solid bronze casting that was dipped in a black oxide chemical, which turned the cabinet black. The flat edges and the high points of the casting were polished, leaving the black in the low areas and highly shined bronze edging. It was then lacquered to maintain the finish.

( B ) Nickel plated*

This cabinet is usually a solid yellow brass (or sometimes cast iron)* casting that was nickel plated. The drawer front was generally solid nickel because the nickel plating would easily wear off when closing the drawer. Yellow brass is made from copper, zinc and tin. Bronze is copper and tin. Both copper and tin are expensive, so the zinc makes it a lot cheaper to make and was used for most plated machines. Often if they didn't have all of the parts in brass, they would use a bronze part. After many years of wear, the nickel becomes worn off in spots. If you remove all of the nickel, you often find 3 colors, red bronze, yellow brass and solid nickel. This machine will have to be re-plated? Highly polished and lacquered.

( C ) Bronze, natural color.

This cabinet was solid bronze castings. Highly polished and lacquered.

( D ) Oxidized copper and relieved*

This machine is usually made with yellow brass (or cast iron)* casting which were copper plated. The copper was thicker than nickel and would not wear off, so the drawer front was also copper plated brass. It was dipped in the black oxide chemical and the edges and high points of the pattern were highly polished, leaving bright copper edging with the lower areas black. Also lacquered.

( E ) Yellow brass, Natural color

This machine was solid brass castings that were highly polished and lacquered.

( En ) Black enamel, ornamented. (Class 100 only)

This machine is solid yellow castings that were dipped in black oxide and the edges and high points highly polished leaving the black in the low areas. Also lacquered.

Wood Cabinets

Some of the early machines were offered in a solid wood cabinet. These cabinets were made from Oak, Quarter Sawn Oak, Birch, Mahogany, Black Walnut and many other expense woods. They had burled veneer and fancy inlayed patterns of different wood veneers. These were often accented with brass and nickel inlays, as well as nickel plated drawer pull and other hardware.

Many inlay patterns were named such as: The Shell Pattern,Lilly of the Valley, Tulip Pattern, and the Persimmon pattern.

Clearly, my machine is NOT any of the above. It is NOT an early machine (those being 1800's), but my drawer is marked for Mah (Mahogany) and it's obvious there is no wooden cabinet. Was the current drawer a replacement?

What does an original Model 312 in Mah finish look like?Does that mean a brown paint? This machine is clearly black wrinkle finish and the only wood is the base, which is painted black as well.

I looked at some of the locations where the paint was chipped and the underlying metal does appear to be polished nickel. Therefore, would the paint be original from National or is this a customer applied paint job?

Hours of research on the web does not turn up painted examples of a 312. Also the case is mostly not magnetic, however in some areas this is a weak pull, but I'm concluding the magnet is attracted to the cast iron internal frames.

If the black wrinkle finish is not original, whether to leave the machine as is or strip the finish is to be decided. I wish to make it clear, I know this decision is up to my preference, but I also wish to make it clear the machine is more of sentimental value than monetary value, so a restoration to original condition for eventual resale or to increase in value is not my intent as I have no plans to sell it..

The denomination keys "buttons": I looked at the vintage catalog, and it shows white numerals on black for all keys except NO SALE which is black on orange. My register however has:

- black numerals on white for the 10 cent denominations (10, 20, 30, 40, 50);

- white numerals on red for the cent denominations (1 through 9 EXCEPT the 5 which is black on white).

- black on orange for NO SALE.

I know that the 5 button on adding machines, calculators and other registers almost always contrasted for easy recognition so this I figure is original, and as dad's model 1098 is the same way.

I would like to replace the NO SALE flag with an original. An unrestored one to match the other flags would be preferred. As the NO SALE flag appears to be in the same position on all the 300 models (far right for the clerk - far left for the customer), I would conclude all the 300 series NO SALE flags are compatible.

The drawer front is clearly smooth painted metal. All the images I've encountered show the cast National drawer front. Is mine missing or was there / this a "budget" model 312 omitted some of the ornamentation or perhaps there was a wood front in Mahogany?

On the right side of the keyboard, the numerals 5145 are stamped into the front edge. This number is also stamped on the inside of the back metal case. It does not match the warranty registration or the serial number.

So many questions abound. If you have answers, please feel free to contact me at bedt14@aol.com

In 1930, no less than 82 airlines—most of them with one or two aircraft—consolidated into American Airways, mainly to profit from the lucrative mail contracts then being offered by the US government. This consolidation gave American Airways one of the largest American route networks, rivaled only by Pan American. Though most of its profit came from mail carrying, American included passenger service as well, operating huge Curtiss Condors, one of the first airliners to include sleeping berths and stewardesses.

In 1934, American Airways was bought by car producer Errett Cord, who renamed it American Airlines; as Cord was concentrating on his automotive business, he hired Texas businessman Cyrus R. Smith to run American. C.R. Smith, as he was better known, would become one of the most influential men in the history of American aviation, alongside Howard Hughes of Trans World Airlines and Juan Trippe of Pan American.

Smith saw a great deal of potential in American Airlines, but did not like the Curtiss Condor. Smith desired an aircraft capable of comfortably flying 14-20 people from New York to Los Angeles with a minimum of stops. To facilitate this, he contracted with Douglas Aircraft to develop the Douglas Sleeper Transport, which would eventually become the DC-3. American Airlines would be the first to operate what would become the most widely-produced and longest-lasting airliner in history. The DC-3 allowed American to operate a daily service between New York and Los Angeles; to further facilitate flights, Smith partnered with New York mayor Fiorello LaGuardia to have a new airport built, which would eventually become LaGuardia International Airport.

World War II saw American’s fleet of DC-3s federalized for US Army Air Force use, and its pilots incorporated into the Air Ferrying Service; C.R. Smith joined the USAAF and became the head of the AFS. This would prove helpful to the company as well, as its pilots gained experience flying globally. At war’s end, American embarked on an aggressive expansion of its routes and bought new equipment—and when it could not buy new equipment, it sponsored the creation of new airliners. To replace the DC-3, the airline helped fund the development of the Convair CV-240, the first American postwar airliner; the Douglas DC-7 was developed from the DC-6 to provide American with an aircraft capable of nonstop transcontinental service and one-stop Pacific service. American Airlines was now competing with the other “big three” airlines of the United States—Pan American, TWA, and United—but by 1950, was the second largest airline in the world, second only to Aeroflot of the Soviet Union.

To keep its innovative edge, American kept partnering with aviation companies. To replace the DC-6 on domestic routes, the airline was involved in the development of the Lockheed L-188 Electra turboprop in 1959; earlier in the 1950s, American had attempted to acquire deHavilland Comet 1s, but after several Comets were lost in crashes, the airline switched its orders to the Boeing 707. Though Pan American was the first to introduce the 707 on transatlantic routes, American was the first to use it in nonstop jet service from New York to Los Angeles, marketing it as the “Astrojet” and beating its main domestic competitor, United, to the punch. In 1962, it added a third new airliner, the Convair CV-990 Coronado, then the fastest airliner in the world. It also became the first airline to use an electronic booking system in the same year.

By 1970 American was in an excellent position. It was staying in competition with Pan American and TWA internationally and United domestically, and its acquisition of Trans-Caribbean Airways gave it unmatched access to the South American market (a position American retains today). It added wide-body airliners in the form of the Boeing 747 in 1970, while it was the launch customer of the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 in 1974. The latter provided the only hiccup in American’s continued expansion: the crash of Flight 191 at Chicago in May 1979, which remains the deadliest crash in American aviation history, led to the grounding of the DC-10 and an investigation into poor maintenance practices on the aircraft by American.

American adopted the modern hub/spoke system in 1981, mainly from Chicago-O’Hare and Dallas-Fort Worth, where the airline had moved its headquarters in 1979. It later expanded regional hubs to San Jose, California (after acquiring AirCal in 1987); Nashville, Tennesee; and Raleigh-Durham, though San Jose and Raleigh were later sold to other, smaller airlines. A commuter service, American Eagle, was founded in 1984. In 1990, it increased its hold on the South American market by purchasing Eastern Airlines’ route network in the region. In the same year, American took advantage of TWA’s troubles to acquire its landing rights at London-Heathrow, becoming one of only two US air carriers allowed to fly there (United being the other) until 2008. Eventually, in early 2001, American bought out TWA entirely.

The 1990s had seen American Airlines slow down some, partially because of overreach in too many unprofitable routes and an aging fleet of aircraft. The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 hurt the airline more—not just because of the post-attack downturn, but also the loss of two American aircraft, their crews, and their passengers on 9/11 itself. Further tragedy struck American only weeks later when Flight 587, an Airbus A300, crashed after takeoff from Kennedy International, killing over 360 people. Labor troubles and problems with the MD-80 fleet inherited from TWA caused further problems: though American was never in danger of bankruptcy, it was forced to curtail a number of domestic and international flights and close its maintenance facility in Kansas City, Missouri.

This temporarily halted American’s troubles, but high operating costs, the 2008 recession, and an aging pilot workforce finally led the iconic carrier to file for bankruptcy in 2011. Almost a hundred aircraft were grounded and some flights were curtailed. To avoid a shutdown of the airline, American began to explore possibilities of a merger with another airline, and in 2013, was able to successfully merge with US Airways, though the latter airline will continue operations for some years to come. This allowed American to emerge from bankruptcy.

Today, American Airlines is the largest airline in the world, thanks to the US Airways merger. Plans are to standardize the over 600 aircraft in the American fleet to the Airbus A320, late model Boeing 737s, Boeing 777s, and Boeing 787 Dreamliners, for which American placed the largest purchase order in American aviation history.

This DC-10 solid model shows American's iconic bare metal livery. American was the launch customer for the DC-10.

Regione Emilia Romagna Il Presidente

Showdown in Downtown is a collaboration of sponsors, local non-profits, sports superstars who educate and empower new energy for community action, the Street Festival brings together private and public resources to show off all we can do together.

We were surprised to find a parking space alongside St Paul's Cathedral yesterday evening, but the photo journalist in Mrs Monk wanted to check out the week old tent-city that has sprung up to annoy David Cameron and Daily Mail readers.

We were told today that David Cameron could not sleep on the plane to Australia due to the economic crisis in the Euro Zone. However, he did find time down there to repeat the government refrain on the camping at St Paul’s. He said that he respected their right to protest, but he did not understand why they had to pitch a tent to make their protest.

On BBC Question Time last week a Tory spokeswoman said the same thing, and suggested that the protesters could set up camp in an “airfield”, where the media would be allowed to visit them and get their pictures and listen to their message. Either this person was giving a prearranged response that went wrong, or otherwise felt compelled to make this deranged response. I think I can safely say that Shoestringonline and the Daily Mail would be unlikely to visit an airfield unless it were Southend Airport on a Tuesday afternoon, but not at all if there were just one hippy that showed up. So, to show their opposition to David Cameron, the campers chose well and set up camp where they might be noticed, and not ignored.

Mrs Monk was therefore able to get her pictures. An unexpected benefit of our visit was a very entertaining hour or so of festive music, and chat to friendly, kind, committed protesters, who were willing to do something honourable and for no reward. Their actions were nevertheless characterised by a sneering Melanie Philips of the Daily Mail as a “self-indulgent exercise.”

This same week we learned that company director’s pay, rose by 50% in the last year, a time of supposed austerity. Daily Mail headlines and the repugnant Melanie Philips, complained about lost revenues for St Paul’s Cathedral, which is not a business corporation, but does have a gift shop and an embarrassing agenda.

Today we learned that the church commissioned a report on the issues that provoked this financial crisis and have failed to publish it. There is an almighty row going on within the church, and high profile albeit polite resignations. The church hierarchy is apparently embarrassed by their bogus excuses for closing the cathedral.

Local businesses around St Paul’s are actually flourishing and may well have increased their trade, selling camping attire to keep the campers cosy. Yo Sushi overlook the camp site, and may do well to consider sponsoring a camper. There are no rules.

If this proves profitable, I predict new campsites will spring up all over London, sponsored by fast food chains. People might visit a Wagamama Camp site. I would be a frequent visitor to a Wagamama camp site.

I digress, perhaps because I am hungry.

The New York campers suffered a snow storm today, but for the moment the London campers are comfortable. How will the church handle this situation, if the weather turns? Will the church let them in and feed them in the crypt cafe, or will they abandon them. The protesters, whoever they are, are going nowhere, and that is their message and their strength.

Tonight the Bishop Of London who failed to get wholehearted support of the clergy, appeared on the steps of St Paul’s and failed to rule out a forced removal of the protesters. The Monks are ready to be mobilised, if required.

Here are some quality clothing brands that will survive the test of time. Yes, if you look, you can find quality clothing items that are made in USA, England, India and Japan. You can skip Chinese made junk! In some cases you may need to buy pre-owned because many once great brands have sold out quality for profits. The good news is there are great deals to be found by buying vintage old school quality on eBay.

Regione Emilia Romagna Il Presidente

Uyghur girls sew tapestries for a non-profit organization.

Regione Emilia Romagna Il Presidente

NEW JERSEY RESIDENTS AND FAITH LEADERS HOLDING EVENT TO OPPOSE EXPANSION OF IMMIGRANT DETENTION AT JAIL ACCUSED OF INHUMANE CONDITIONS

Residents of New Jersey To March to the Essex County Jail to protest freeholders decision to Put Revenue Before Human Rights in approving a contract to house immigrant detainees at controversial Essex County Correctional Facility and Neighboring Delaney Hall .

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ – Concerned New Jersey residents including members of Pax Christi NJ and more than 20 immigrant rights and religious organizations from New York and New Jersey will march from Peter Francisco Park in Newark, NJ, to the Essex County Correctional Facility on Sunday in opposition to a new contract with Essex County that would expand immigration detention at the jail and the neighboring privately run Delaney Hall to house up to 1,250 immigrant detainees. The jail has been accused of inhumane conditions including proximity to active polluters and toxic waste sites; restrictions on visits from family, lawyers, and clergy; concerns about adequate food and general safety; and a denial to access of medical services.

WHAT: March and Rally in Opposition to Inhumane Conditions at For-Profit Detention Center in Toxic Waste Corridor

WHERE: Beginning at Peter Francisco Park (Adjacent to Newark Penn Station) in Newark, NJ, and marching to Essex County Correctional Facility & Delaney Hall, 356 Doremus Ave., Newark, NJ

WHEN: 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM, Sunday, October 9, 2011

“The Essex County Executive and the Freeholders want us to believe that they can spin the misery of the immigrants in their custody into gold for the rest of the residents of Essex County, but they are perpetuating an environment in which profit is the primary motivator while shirking their responsibility for oversight,” said faith leader Kathy O’Leary, who launched an online campaign on Change.org. She and Pax Christi NJ, the organization she represents, are a part of a statewide coalition of organizations which has been engaging the chosen freeholders in private and public meetings since January, consistently asking that the no new contract with ICE be approved prior to completing a thorough investigation of allegations of human rights abuses and violations of NJ law at the jail and instituting a community review board to ensure facilities comply with all applicable standards.

Participants and the coalition members are hoping to send the message that New Jersey residents are upset with the Freeholders’ decision. A large coalition of faith groups is asking that the Freeholders ensure visiting hours that include evenings and weekends; contact visits for family members; no restrictions on visits, phone calls, and other contact with lawyers and clergy; adequate mental and physical health care; healthy food that complies with dietary restrictions and religious observances; unrestricted access to communal religious services; and regular outdoor recreation free from exposure to hazardous environmental conditions. The online petition on Change.org has already garnered more than 2,000 signatures.

Sunday’s event is the third major protest outside the Essex County Correctional Facility and Delaney Hall since Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced its intention to partner with Essex County. The event is also the 13th annual protest against immigration detention by the immigrant rights group IRATE & First Friends, traditionally held outside the Elizabeth Detention Center. However, the protest is moving to Newark this year along with the detainees. The event is to take place just days after ICE completes transferring hundreds of immigrant detainees from the Elizabeth Detention Center to Delaney Hall and two years since ICE issued a report that was supposed to transform immigration detention from an unfairly penal system to one of humane civil detention.

ICE is saying the move to Essex is an attempt to improve conditions, but advocates disagree. “The policy of mandatory immigration detention is bad enough, but what ICE is holding up as the model of immigration detention for the entire country is a jail and a hastily partitioned penal facility next to active polluters and toxic waste in the middle of what is known as ‘chemical corridor.’ How is that an improvement? How can anyone call that more humane?” said Cynthia Mellon Environmental Justice & Community Organizer for the Ironbound Community Corporation.

The campaign is catching on and it is attracting the attention of national groups. “Kathy O’Leary and Pax Christi NJ’s campaign to demand more humane conditions for immigrant detainees is impressive,” said Jackie Mahendra, Change.org’s Director of Organizing for Immigrant Rights. “Change.org is about empowering anyone, anywhere to demand action on the issues that matter to them, and it’s been really incredible to see this campaign take off.”

TianLiang Maa, alternative spelling: Tianliang Ma, also known as Theophilus Raynsford Mann; Ma, Tianliang; Chinese: 馬天亮; 马天亮.

SUMMARY

TianLiang Maa is a naturalist, occultist, Buddhist and Taoist. In 1982, Maa developed a technique for abstract photography, applied “Rayonism” into photographic works. Maa staged 32 individual, extraordinary exhibitions around Taiwan, who was the first exhibitor around Formosa. Maa’s works is the beginning of modernization in the modern abstract arts in the world. At the University of Oxford, Maa’s attractive topic was “A View of Architectural History: Towns through the Ages from Winchester through London Arrived at Oxford in England”; also an author at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Michigan in the United States; an alumnus from Christ Church College at the University of Oxford in England, the University of Glamorgan in Wales, and National Taiwan University in Taipei on Taiwan. Maa’s works have been quoted by the scholars many times, making Maa one of the highly cited technological, artistic, and managing public administrators in the academia. Maa was listed in “Taiwan Who’s Who In Business” © 1984, 1987, 1989 Harvard Management Service.

Early Life and Record of Genealogy

TianLiang Maa possesses both Taiwanese and German surnames from birth. Usually, whenever anyone asks Maa about where he comes from, he would reply “Formosa” as he grew up and was educated in the Far East and lives in Taiwanese and Japanese lifestyles. Moreover, he often teaches and educates younger generations based on the methods of the Far Eastern teaching he experienced when he was young, though he does not oppose the Western ways of teaching and thinking. Maa takes great pride in his roots, which go back 150 years (since 1864); Maa’s ancestry originates and creates generations, and prepares younger generations to succeed their personality and ethical standards and integrity.

Education in Taiwan and a Brief of Latest Generation of History in Taiwan / Formosa

In 1980, Maa obtained his postgraduate certificate from the Graduate Institute of Electrical Engineering of National Taiwan University in Taipei; successfully completed another graduate studies in Information dBase III Plus and Taiwanese Traditional Chinese Mandarin Information System at National Sun Yat-Sen University in Kaohsiung in 1989.

In history, the Portuguese explorers discovered and called the island (Taiwan), “Formosa” (meaning “Beautiful Island”) in 1590. They are non-Chinese people; it was long a Chinese and Japanese pirate base. Fighting continued, between its original inhabitants of Taiwanese and the Chinese settlers, into the 19th century. In 1894-95 first Sino-Japanese War that ended in Manchus of the Qing (Ching) dynasty defeat, the late Manchu Qing Government forced to cede Formosa to Japan. This result was made by the Treaty of Shomonoseki in 1895 and remained under Japanese control until the end of the Second World War. Early on, Taiwan was conquered by the Qing in 1683 and for the first time became part of older China dynasty. However, today, the home country of Maa’s origin has around 165 institutions (93 universities) of higher education, which now has one of the best-educated populations in Asia. Among the major public (state) ones are the National Taiwan University (NTU) at Taipei, and National Sun Yat-Sen University (NSYSU) at Kaohsiung. NSYSU is also called National Chun-Shan University; according to Times Higher Education 2010-2011, NSYSU ranks as the 3rd university in Taiwan, 21st in Asia, and 163rd worldwide. National Taiwan University is ranked 51 to 60 ranks on Times Higher Education World University Rankings - Top Universities by Reputation 2013, the United Kingdom (see www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/world-university-rankings/...); King's College London (KCL) (21st in the world and 6th in Europe in the 2010, QS World University Rankings), the University of London, and University of Southern California (is one of the world's leading private research universities, located in the heart of Los Angeles), afterward.

Backing to Maa’s early school-time of Taiwan Provincial Kaohsiung Industrial Senior High School (Kaohsiung Municipal Kaohsiung Industrial High school), the professional technical education, which is equivalent to Advanced Level General Certificate of Education, commonly referred to as an A-level in the United Kingdom; China Electronic Engineering College, the distance learning programme, which is in equivalence as UK’s Diploma of Higher Education / Undergraduate Diploma (as an Associate Degree in the United States). An additional, his middle education was taught by the Kaohsiung Municipal Chihjh (Ci Sian) Junior High School; and Kaohsiung Municipal San Min Elementary School was his first school in Taiwan.

Early Career

In 1989, Maa instituted Maa’s Office of Electrical Engineer, he settled himself in electrical technology and industries as a chief engineer in his early years. He put his professional and precise knowledge to good account in business management. A formal business management with business relationship established to provide for regular services, dealings, and other commercial transactions and deed. He had many customers having a business and credit relationship with his firm then he was a successful engineer.

Study Abroad and Immigration into the United Kingdom

In 1998, Maa studied abroad when he arrived in Great Britain; he studied at School of Built Environment, the University of Glamorgan (Prifysgol Morgannwg) in Merthyr Tydfil, Pontypridd, Wales for a master of science in real estate appraisal. Until the summer of 2000, Maa completed an academic course on “Towns through the Ages” from Christ Church College at the University of Oxford (is ranked the 2nd place worldwide on The Times Higher Education, World University Rankings 2012-2013

www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/world-university-rankings/...) in England. Afterward, Maa immigrated into the United Kingdom in the early year of 2004.

PHILOSOPHICAL VIEWS

Maa is a naturalist; he trusts spiritual naturalism and naturalistic spirituality, which teaches that “the unknown” created this wonderful world. “The unknown” arranged the nature with its law so that everything in nature is kept balanced and in order. However, human beings failed to control themselves, deliberately went against the law of nature, and resulted in disasters, which we deserved. He also is an occultist, a Taoist, and a Buddhist; but in Britain, he frequently goes to Christian and Catholic churches, where he makes friends with pastors and fathers as well as churchgoers. In his mind, he recognizes “Belief is truth held in the mind; faith is a fire in the heart”. He is always a freethinker, does not accept traditional, social, and religious teaching, but based on his ideas: a thought or conception that potentially and actually exists in his mind as a product of mental activity - his opinion, conviction, and principle. If people have not come across eastern classics and philosophy, we are afraid that people would never understand TianLiang Maa. People cannot judge an eastern philosopher based on western ways of thinking. He studies I Ching discovering eastern classics of ancient origin consisting of 64 interrelated hexagrams along with commentaries. The hexagrams embody Taoist philosophy by describing all nature and human endeavour in terms of the interaction of yin and yang, and the classics may be consulted as an oracle.

Back in the 1990s when Maa just arrived at England, he had been offered places to do Ph.D. and LL.M. degrees (degree in Law and Politics of the European Union) by several western professors in the Great Britain. He has met all the requirements for postgraduate admissions to study at UK’s universities.

During his time at Oxford, he learnt a lot of British culture and folk-custom while carrying out research with many British and Western professors, experts, and archaeologists. This proves that Maa understands various aspects in British society, culture, and lifestyles. Of course, he does not fully understand about the perspectives of thinking of a typical British. For example, what would be the most valuable in life for a British person? What would a British want to gain from life? What is the goal in life for a British? Is it fortune or a lover? Alternatively, perhaps honour? On the other hand, maybe being able to travel around the world and see the world?

FAIRNESS and JUSTICE

As TianLiang Maa’s (馬天亮) saying are:

“Touching Fairness and Justice”

Feel good about themselves, but do not know the sufferings of the people...

Who can get easy life like them?

What is profile of modern society?

What type and style is truly solemn for this society identify?

Where “the characterization” is? Who can see? Did you see it?

Jurisprudence and Political Philosophy and Perspectives

Maa ever studied judicial review and governmental action, the impact of law and legal techniques, constitutional mechanisms for the protection of basic rights, and ensuring the integrity of commercial activity, the impact of law and legal techniques on government, policymaking, and administration, as well as the creation of markets. He tries to understand these critical trends in the political development of modern state. Maa will combine both theoretical and empirical approaches, and the conditions for democratic transition and the nature of state development in the ‘post-industrial’ era of globalisation and economic integration.

According as Maa’s legal experiences, he comprehend that “the knowledge of the law is like a deep well, out of which each man draught according to the strength of his understanding”, and, law and arbitrary power are in eternal enmity. He is also sure law and institutions are constantly tending to gravitate like clocks; they must be occasionally cleansed, and wound up, and set to true time.

The government issues a decree - an authoritative order having the force of law, which charged with putting into effect a country's laws and the administering of its functions. Any of the officials promulgate a law or put into practice relating to the government charged with the execution and administration of the nation's laws then they announce and carry out the creation of any order or new policy that will be responsible for the people.

Maa had knowledge in connexion with construction law; he also understands architectural arts, and as well learnt the forms by combining materials and parts include as an integral part concerning modern construct. I ever built urban buildings and rural architecture in different styles under new housing and building projects by the governmental administration and construction corporations.

Right now, Maa studies the problems caused by ethnic disputes and human armed conflicts in the modern society resulted code of mixed civil and criminal procedure. He wishes an agreement or a treaty to end human hostilities - the absence of war and other hostilities around the world. The interrelation and arrangement of freedom from quarrels and disagreement become harmonious relations living in peace with each other. Actually, erect peace in more friendly ways of making friendships for modern human society is comfortable in my ideal. It is like building monolithic architecture: houses and buildings for the people. Maa would like to do “something beautiful for `the unknown`”.

In the ethnic disagreement and armed conflicts as concerning the poor people and children notwithstanding they live through a bad environment on any of poor or crowded village or town in a particular manner - lived frugally. However, after years of industrialisation as a more educated population, becomes more aware of global plenum, continuing to be alive. Environmental groups are increasing and lobbing government will legislate to stop bad environmental and social practices. The establishments of human rights’ wide and untiring efforts will be alleviated people’s suffering. And as well the poor people shall meet and debate sustainable development and for a concerted government led action towards sustainability is an example that the younger generation are concerned for the future. It shall be making the younger easier for their life and make better on their lives, and help them to build a better future.

In present world, Maa really knows the full meanings of “Fundamental Human Rights and Equal Opportunities for the People”. He thinks ethics is the moral code governing the daily conduct of the individual toward those about him / her. It represents those rules or principles by which men and women live and work in a spirit of mutual confidence and service. Without going into the question of how an ethical code was formulated or why anybody should obey it, we can look at the matter in a common-sense fashion with reference to its influence upon our legal affairs. In brief, from the law point of view, a reputable ethical code embodies the qualities of accuracy, dependability, fair play, sound judgement, and service. It is based upon honesty.

No person can have an ethical code that concerns him / her alone. Living in society, as he / she must, a person encounters others whose rights must be respected as well as his / her own. An honest regard for the rights of others is an essential element of any decent code of ethics, and one that anyone must observe if anybody intends to follow that code. After all, ethics is not something apart from human beings. Indeed, there is no such thing apart from our actions and us. It is the duty, therefore, of every man and woman in legal affairs to see that his daily associations with others are truly in conformity with the plain meaning of the Ten Commandments: “Thou shalt not barratry, thou shalt not bear false witness, thou shalt not receive illegal fee and the rest”.

The knowledge Maa has, in connection with legal affairs, was usually come from his precious experiences of his past over ten year’s law and political careers. In an interval regarded as a distinct period of 1980s, he studied mixed civil and crime, and the code of mixed civil and criminal procedure for the problems caused by ethnic disputes and human armed conflicts in the modern society. He was especially one who maintains the language and customs of the group, and social security in Taiwan.

Since 30 July of 1988, Maa settled himself in law as a chief executive and scrivener at Central Legal, Real Estate, and Accounting Services Office; it is in the equivalent to a solicitor of the United Kingdom. The Office provided full legal, accounting, real estate, and commercial services to the public. He did his job as a person legally appointed by another to act as his or her agent in the transaction of business, specifically one qualified and licensed to act for plaintiffs and defendants in legal proceedings and affairs. Over and above Maa was a chairman and executive consultant at Taiwan Credit Information Company®, founded in 1994. The company offered services to the public in response to need and demand in the area of credit information.

Maa had excellent experiences in political and law work was pertaining to mixed civil and crime, the code of mixed civil and criminal procedure, construction, and commercial law abroad. The experiences of legal services related to the rights of private individuals and legal proceedings concerning these rights as distinguished. In the criminal proceedings, he did many cases for the defendants. Although an act committed or omitted in violation of a law forbidding or commanding it and for which punishment is imposed upon conviction; but he also laid legal claim, required as useful, just, proper, or necessary to the defendants under the human rights in the meantime. This provision ensures to the defendant a real voice in the subject.

The men whose judgement we respect are those who do not allow prejudices, preferences, or personalities to influence their decisions. Profit and self-aggrandisement are likewise ignored in their determination to reach an equitable and fair settlement. What are the basic principles upon which good judgement is founded? A keen intellect, a normal emotionally, a through understanding of human nature, experience of law work, sincerity, and integrity.

Developed a Technique for Abstract Photography and Abstractionist

In 1982, Maa developed a technique for abstractive photography, which applied “rayonism” to the photographic works. In November of 1984, Maa was 26-year-old, he instructed many professors and students of National Taiwan Normal University in photography of abstract impressionism and rayonnisme in Taipei, Taiwan. The word “rayonnisme” is French for rayonism - a style of abstract painting developed in 1911 in Russia.

Maa staged 32 individual, extraordinary exhibitions and annual special exhibitions on photography of abstractive image and Rayonnisme around Taiwan / Formosa. Maa was the first exhibitor around the country. All of the invited displays were by the Chinese Government, cultural and artistic organisations, and sponsors. Maa’s earliest exhibition took place in the National Taiwan Arts Education Institute (Museum) on 19 December 1983 when Maa was 25 years old; Maa was the youngest exhibitor in the history of the Institute in any solo exhibitions. The Institute that was opened in March 1957, kept a collection of Maa’s work. It is currently updating the Institute’s internal organisation and strengthening co-operation with leading institutes and museums around the world. Meanwhile, it widened the institute’s scope to increase its emphasis on Taiwan’ regional culture and folk arts.

Modernization in the Modern Abstract Arts of Taiwan

Maa’s works is the beginning of modernization in the modern abstract arts of Taiwan, China and greater Chinese society in the world. The use of “modernisation” as a concept that is opposed to “Traditional” of “Conservative” ideas began with the approach of the 20th century. It spreads rapidly through academic circles, and was broadly accepted as a means to reform society. Chinese Manchu Qing (Ching) dynasty’s first steps toward modernisation began in the Tung-chih era (1862-1874) with the “Self-Empowerment Movement”. During the late 19th century, as late Manchu dynasty was confronted on all sides by foreign aggression, voices throughout society debated the most effective means to reform and strengthen the country. Some advocated “combining the best of East and West”, while others went so far as to call for “complete Westernisation”. Taiwan was at the centre of these waves of reform. Faced with direct threats against the island by foreign enemies, the Chinese Ching dynasty court took special steps to push Taiwan’s modernisation.

In a role just like that of a gardener wanting to create a rich and fertile environment for the seeds of culture, one in which Maa may sprout, grow and bloom. Maa aims to provide an educational stimulus for society by introducing his works - Maa can express the neo-romantic spirit deftly from various creations and supporting international artistic exchanges. Maa believes that the first step in creating such a new and independent state is the real emergence of culture and arts, for which the art and science of designing and erecting buildings, and fine arts (including photography and motion picture) of the civilization is a good measurement of success. For the foreseeable future, Maa should be continuing to forge ahead, working diligently and unceasingly towards its mission of raising China and Formosa / Taiwan’s culture in his spare time.

Became an Author and a Scholar

In 1980, TianLiang Maa completed his first book - scenario original “The Soul's Sentimentalizing”, also named: “Hun Yun : Jin Qi Tu Rui” 電影原著《魂韻》(衿契吐蕊) then Maa was at the age of 22. In 1983, The General Library of the University of California, Berkeley in the United States of America, collected and kept Maa’s writings - scenario original 「魂韻 : 衿契吐蕊」“Hun Yun : jin qi tu rui”, included a musical composition of his own – “Sonate Nr. 1 C-dur op. 3 für Klavier (piano)”, composed on 3rd April 1977 then Maa was 18 years old. The works were published in 1980; the theme was based on “The Soul's Sentimentalizing”. Another masterpiece was an Album of Academic Work for News Publication “TianLiang Maa (Theophilus Raynsford Mann) Photographic Exhibition of Rayonnisme / Rayonism”, published in 1985. The Hathi Trust Digital Library, the University of Michigan also collected and kept Maa’s writings.

Authorship

Maa’s articles and writings were published in more than 200 different kinds of domestic and foreign magazines, newspapers, and periodicals, in the period between May of 1972 and 1990s. It was all started when Maa was just 13-year-old. Many of which have been very influential. These have been quoted by Western and Eastern scholars many times in the last few years, making Maa one of the highly cited technological, artistic, and managing public administrators in the world in the late 20th and early 21st century. The Ministry of the Interior in Taiwan had registered Maa’s professional writings and given him two certificates of copyright. The numbers are 33080 and 33081 on 4th July of 1985; and Taiwan’s Gazette of The Presidential Office issue No. 4499, featured his writings on 4th September 1985.

First introduction of the Caring Currency -

MEANINGFUL FUN & SOCIAL PROFIT

Caring Currency Project – a Fun and Exciting opportunity to be happier, make more friends find meaning in your life and build your reputation as being Part Of the Solution (POS) in business, society… JOIN US, and make China and the world a better place.

(How China Saved the World)

How? Help us create, develop and share the “Caring Currency” ecosystem – a much needed complimentary and alternative ecosystem to the high stress, high pressure, low satisfaction lifestyles we are living today. Become Part Of the Solution, create a Caring Currency used in a Lifestyle Of Health, Happiness And Sustainability (LOHHAS).

Ecosystem?

We live in ecosystems - Cultural, Financial and Environmental…they’re all related and interdependent. Actually, everything is dependent on our Environmental Ecosystem, because without food, water and air there is no human culture or opportunity to do business and support the human world we’ve created. Caring Currency will fill the gaps and connect the dots, making our lives meaningful.

The BLOCKCHAIN

The BLOCKCHAIN is the brilliant underlying technology of Bitcoin, creating a world-wide, peer-to-peer medium of exchange, accounting system with methods to store value. Build your reputation in a trustless system - no third party, but instead a face-to-face and peer-to-peer people-oriented platform. Caring Currency has priceless, special values - human values.

What about business? Show Me the Money...

Smart people realize that money is only money. You can’t eat or drink it. You can’t have a conversation with it, and as much as we need it and want it, it distorts our perspectives and controls our lives in many negative ways. The pursuit of money alone hurts us and the planet we depend on.

Caring Currency is a financial business on the BLOCKCHAIN – the home of the Republic Of Conscience.

Caring Currency is a New, Parallel World – in the Republic Of Conscience

Hard to define in old terms, nothing comparable to the Republic Of Conscience has existed until the connectivity of the internet and accounting of the BLOCKCHAIN made it possible… Old financial terms and structures that existed prior to the BLOCKCHAIN and Bitcoin – Money, Security, medium of exchange etc. will be naturally updated to freely serve people around the world in new ways.

Freedom..

Although we live different nations, with all their opportunities and restrictions, we can free ourselves from those burdens by changing our attitudes, outlook and decision-making criteria. Caring Currency expresses the Freedom of our individual State Of Mind in the Republic Of Conscience.

FUN…and Education

With a variety of fun coin names like KuaiLeBi (Happy Coin) and DUCKeCOIN, Caring Currency is (1.) first meant to bring light-hearted fun and smiles to people’s faces and make their lives and relationships happier, and (2.) secondly, exercise the practice of giving back to society, building generosity, social cohesion and harmony. (3.) Thirdly, give the masses practical, technical experience with virtualcurrency, wallets and transferring values through the BLOCKCHAIN.

INVESTMENT

What is most important to you? Money or Friends?

I have a question for you… can you buy friends?

Some people think they can, but the quality of those friendships are always very poor.

However, you can definitely “invest” in friendship by INVESTING IN YOURSELF. (To find more friends, you must invest in learning to BE a friend!)

HOW YOU CAN LEAD A HAPPIER, HEALTHIER, MORE MEANINGFUL LIFE

Take CARE of yourself,

Invest in yourself…

YOUR NETWORK - Join the leaders of the new world based on the BLOCKCHAIN...

YOUR EXPERTISE – the BLOCKCHAIN is less than 5 years old, you know more than most people!

YOUR SKILL SET – this is your opportunity to experiment, test and try new things!

YOUR RELATIONSHIPS – improve your relationships by improving yourself.

YOUR WEALTH – build a fortune to live a secure and meaningful future.

YOUR AMBITION – Helping others reach their positive goals, will provide the platform and resources for your ambitions.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

We are developing a new way to “buy friends” and gain respect – winning their hearts and minds through appreciation and “gifting” through the Caring Currency ecosystem.

Some people call it “Pay It Forward” but simply put, we’re developing a system of quantifying, distributing and recycling our goodwill. Join us and learn more.

What we need: Your skills, passion and commitment.

The benefit to you… Participating with passionate people, where you will find inspiration to create your own state of mind, money-making businesses and spinoffs.

What you need to do – no experience necessary!

Show your courage, commitment and support – Send us a 3 Finger Photo of yourself, and a brief explanation of your skills and how you want to use your skills to create a Caring Currency for a better world. Don’t forget to smile_\!/
