Difficult day panning in such strong winds! with gusts to nearly 50mph but the RAF weren't put off and powered through the valleys of North Wales.

It is impossible to imagine the Kitchen of «the odd flat», as, indeed, any communal kitchen of the 1920-30`s, without this significant item. Primus was an attribute of the cat Behemoth in „The Master and Margarita“.
Manchester City Transport was very proud of its new 'Mancunian' bus, the very first British double decker designed from the outset to be operated by one person. The first one, 1001, had been premiered to wide acclaim and one of them, 2048, was shown at the 1968 Commercial Motor Show in London.
After the show, it was put on display in Manchester with two other up-to-date examples of modern bus design so that citizens of the city could inspect them and see the best on offer in public transport.
The two other buses were from Sheffield and Newcastle, both showing their new ideas. The Sheffield bus had a similar layout to the Manchester one, while the Newcastle one had dual doors like the other two but had its staircase on the nearside - this became a Newcastle standard for some years.
As Manchester had already chosen the Mancunian design, it's tempting to think that this was less of a case of 'make your choice' and more 'ours is the best'. But to be sure Manchester did have an amazing and advanced new design icon, and even today when we take preserved 1001 on the road it's not unusual for passengers to put out their hands at bus stops.
The Mancunian evolved into the Greater Manchester 'standard' and was highly influential on bus design, with its recognition that a box is absolutely fine as a shape for carrying passengers - no need for curved domes, flowing curves and so on. We're glad to say that at the time of writing there are three fully restored Mancunians on the road including our own 1001, which is on display at our museum.
