Explored #87. Thanks!

Back to my Finland shots, I still have a few ones to post. Another shot from Porkalla, southern Finland. Thanks to my buddy Rob Orthen for taking me to that awesome place. We did not get the weather we were expecting, but despite the wind and the cold we were able to get some good shots.

Kalapana lava field at The Big Island of Hawaii.

I have a surplus of photos in my archives. I guess that I best stop shooting for a while. :)

This is one of the shots that I was fortunate to have made while I was in Hawaii in February. The sun was rising behind me which gave me a great backdrop for these flows as it shown its light on the rain clouds that threatened to ruin my shots all week long. :) I'm glad that they cooperated that morning.

Gigantic trees, Sitka spruce and hemlock, some of the biggest and oldest living things on the planet. Magnificent wonders of of the natural world,

To give you an idea of scale, there is a man to the right of the large Sitka spruce.

A foggy morning, camping in a redwood forest in Patrick's Point, ferns unfurling all over. Everything is SO OLD. Heavenly.

A l'heure où l'Ancien parmi les Arbres apporte les lueurs du matin, voici que vient le moment du Bleu primordial, moment déclencheur des transes lutinesques et des rites ancestraux favorisant la course de l'Astre-Roi !

Chut...!

Because it sounds so much better than pond scum. Shooting the wetlands around the San Francisco bay, I often find these shots of different types and colors of algae. Alviso, California.

From my Primordial Soup collection.

Four pond-lily leaves newly-emerged from a dense bed of aquatic vegetation literally glow in the afternoon sunlight.

ODC theme: BLACK AND WHITE.

The primordial landscape of Torridon in Winter.

Clear blue skies but a chilling wind together with a landscape littered in erratic debris made this a particularly difficult image to get right, or at least close to right.

One of a handful of toads I've seen this year. There used to be a lot of them and other frogs in the pools and marshlands in the area, their unashamedly strident croaking piercing the subtler background score of a myriad of crickets chirping in the gathering dusk... Now only the tiny ones can be seen hopping across paths from time to time, ponds and pools staying eerily silent.

Because it sounds so much better than "pond scum". From a series of photos of what I call Primordial Soup, all of them shot around the San Francisco Bay Area in tide pools, ponds, wetlands, and maybe even one or two from fountains.

Pelican seems to have found something interesting to eat. Alviso, California.

I've always been a fan of the Zombie apocalypse theme. All in all, beyond the splatter, the films linked to survival have a primordial charm, and make us realize how precarious is the existence of man on planet Earth. Whether for a virus, or for some other strange event, we are always at risk of extinction. So, take your guns and knives, and fight until death! : P

OK - so I got carried away...

Or, as it's otherwise known, the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. Or in this case, the Slightly Sepia-tinted Lagoon :)

Still finding the occasional interesting shot from my Iceland trip two years ago. This made me think of life first emerging from the primordial stew...

This is a crop of a shot that I'll post in its entirety later on. I can't decide which I like better....

Update 11/3: replaced with a larger (800 px) file. Uploaded the one for Burnblue.com by mistake ; )

What you are seeing in this image are a merging of two photos in processing. One is of a large dinosaur statue made of metal. The other photo is a bowl of Tortilla Soup I ate at Pollo Loco. Both these photos were more reddish brown than any other color, and I changed the image to blue. Why not? The experimentation with double exposures continues...

In case you want to read up on the term, "primordial soup" which is used when referring to all sorts of things, here's the write up on Wikipedia:
