International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer (informally and simply called Ozone Day) is celebrated on September 16 designed by the United Nations General Assembly. This designation had been made on December 19, 2000, in commemoration of the date, in 1987, on which nations signed the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. In 1994, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 16 September the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, commemorating the date of the signing, in 1987, of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. The closure of the hole in the ozone layer was observed 30 years after the protocol was signed. Due to the nature of the gases responsible for ozone depletion their chemical effects are expected to continue for between 50 and 100 years

Mameda Town and its surroundings, which developed as a townspeople's land during the Tenryo period, retained a lot of land division at the time of residence, and traditional buildings remain well as a group, so the range of about 10.7 hectares was selected as a national important preservation district for groups of traditional buildings on December 10, 2004.

First Cape Henry Lighthouse was completed in 1792 located on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. The replacement lighthouse was completed in 1881. Another photo shows the interior spiral staircase in great condition thanks to the efforts of Preservation Virginia. It is a National Historic Landmark on the U.S. National Register of Historic Landmarks. A climb to the top gives a great view of the Second Cape Henry Lighthouse completed in 1881. and the Virginia coast. My first attempt at capturing this stone arch from an adjacent footbridge, had the sun reflecting too intensely down onto the brook. We tried again an hour later and the light was less severe. However, a steady stream of hikers wanting to cross the single file bridge had me frequently moving out of the way and every time someone set foot on it, the wooden structure moved. I finally crawled under the bridge to get this point of view. I'll have to try again on an overcast day when it's not so late in the year and much of the foliage is in full bloom.

The original mill, built here in the mid 19th century, ground lime in much the same way a grist mill produced grain. This arch is an original feature of the mill race and you really have to admire the masons that cut and fit the stones together to make it last this long. The Halton Hills Branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario, strongly requests that people stay clear of the arch to assist in it’s preservation.

New Orleans’ Preservation Hall was established in 1961 to honor one of America’s truest art forms – Traditional New Orleans Jazz. Operating as a music venue, a touring band, and a non-profit organization, Preservation Hall continues its mission today as a cornerstone of New Orleans music and culture.

Situated in the heart of the French Quarter on St. Peter Street, the Preservation Hall venue presents intimate, acoustic New Orleans Jazz concerts over 350 nights a year featuring ensembles from a current collective of 100+ local master practitioners. On any given night, audiences bear joyful witness to the evolution of this venerable and living tradition.

An MOT pass today for former Brighton Volvo B10BLE Wright Renown 228, seen heading back with a smile on its face.

Here's a legendary place in New Orleans. No photography is allowed during the show, but I was happy to get a shot of the stage area. The venue is tiny (guessing 70-100 capacity), which makes it even better to see and hear a live acoustic jazz performance. I saw the Preservation Hall All-Stars, six of the 50+ collective of musicians. It's a short set, but a lot of fun. I especially liked "Tootie Ma" and "Basin Street Blues". Laissez les bons temps rouler.

Just wanted to share a quick thank you to the Utah state legislature for taking action to help preserve the Great Salt Lake. There’s no place else on earth quite like it and it's worthy of our protection.

This façade in Amsterdam captures the city's unique blend of practicality and charm. The building's brickwork, arched windows, and bold red shutters are typical of the old canal houses that line the waterways. These structures were often warehouses in the seventeenth century, designed with wide openings and heavy wooden shutters to facilitate the loading and storage of goods brought in by boat. The contrast between the dark brick and bright red wood adds a striking touch, reflecting the city's historic architecture that favors both function and visual rhythm.

Amsterdamâs architecture tells the story of a city built on trade and resilience. The narrow, tall buildings were designed this way due to limited space and high taxes based on façade width. Each feature had a purpose: hooks for hoisting goods, arched doors for access to warehouses, and robust shutters for protection against weather and theft. Over time, many of these commercial structures were converted into homes or offices, yet they retained their original shapes, preserving the city's mercantile identity.

Today, these façades are symbols of continuity and adaptation. While the bicycles leaning on the walls and the restored windows speak of modern urban life, the materials and forms remain anchored in the Golden Age of Amsterdam. The balance between preservation and reinvention is what gives the city its timeless character; a place where centuries of history coexist naturally with daily life.

This is an unimaginably spiritual beach.

More difficult than feeling the worst, the saddest, is the absence of any feelings to remind us who we are, why we're here. How we survived.

The building was originally the old Western Market (North Block), which was identified by Antiquities and Monuments Office as one Declared Monument in 1990. At present, it is the oldest market building surviving in Hong Kong. The former Land Development Corporation converted the market into a centre of traditional traders, arts and crafts in 1991 and renamed it as "the Western Market". The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) refurbished the Western Market again in 2003 and tried to bring it back to its useful economic life by adopting the so-called concept of adaptive-reuse...

Sos del Rey Católico (in Aragonese: Sos d'o Rei Catolico) is a historic town and municipality in the Cinco Villas comarca, province of Zaragoza, in Aragon, Spain.

Located on rocky and elevated terrain, this important border town served well as a stronghold from the year 907 when it was reclaimed by Sancho I of Pamplona.

It was incorporated in 1044 by Ramiro I into the Kingdom of Aragon.

In the year 1452, during the Navarrese Civil War, Queen Juana Enríquez de Córdoba moved to the town, then called "Sos". There she gave birth to the infante Ferdinand on March 10, 1452, who later became Ferdinand II of Aragon, one of the Catholic Monarchs. His birth added "d'o Rei Catolico" to the name of the town, which translates as "of the Catholic Monarch".

In 1711 it was named as the capital of the Cinco Villas.

The exceptional preservation of the historic center makes a stroll around this town becomes a journey into the past highlighting the city walls, churches, Plaza de la Villa and the Palacio de los Sada, where Ferdinand was born in 1452.

The film La vaquilla was shot in Sos with many locals working as extras. It was directed by Pablo Garcia Albano.

In preservation, the locomotive has also worn the identities of a number of its scrapped classmates, including first of the A4 class 2509 Silver Link and most recently as 4492 Dominion of New Zealand as seen in this image taken on the line running through St Neots on its way from London to Edinburgh.

J27 65894 steams away from Loughborough during a Timeline Events photo charter. The locomotive was visiting from its home at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for the Great Central Railway's autumn steam gala.

I'm so afraid sometimes that there will be nothing left for my kids and grandkids. That's what this photo is about. Safekeeping, protection, preservation.

Have a few VERY different uploads coming up next - later this afternoon :)
