I absolutely never ever get tired of photographing these birds, especially in the wild. These birds to me optimize what a florida wading bird should be with their grace and elegance. I did about 200 or more so you guys will be seeing more in the future. I really do not know how else to do it on Flickr but all my friends have a very happy and healthy new year and a very Merry Christmas.

A Turkey Vulture flew off and looked for another place to perch. I managed to catch its silhouette against the grey, rainy day April sky.

My first encounter with this marvelous bird can be seen in the first comment below.

During an 8-hour layover in Bangkok, we decided to explore the city, and lucked upon a monk ordination at the Marble Temple. This event happens once a year. At least 100 men and boys from the north of the country were ordained. The ordinations were for periods ranging from, we were told, three weeks to a lifetime.

Short Eared Owl in the golden hour around sunset

Part 1:

The front line had been quiet all morning. Our stiff resistance during the fierce fight the night before had forced the Amis to pull back sometime during the very early morning. We reorganized, rearmed, resupplied, and fixed ourselves into our defenses. This position was of value to command and we were ordered to hold it by all means possible.

At around 0940 the silence was broken by the recognizable rumble of American armor. The Amis must have regrouped in the morning and received reinforcements. We all scurried to our positions and crouched down, awaiting the attack. As the rumbles got louder our anti-tank units prepped their guns and got ready to fire at whatever toys the Americans had brought to play with.
