Fascinating Iceland - Reykjavik

In the foreground the statue of Leif Eriksson (discoverer of America), which was donated by the United States in 1930 for the 1000th anniversary of the Althing Iceland.
Evangelical Lutheran parish church of the Icelandic State Church;
Construction began in 1945. The church tower was completed in 1974. The nave was not completed until 1986.
The concrete pillars connect with the Icelandic basalt columns, , the white color reminds of the glaciers of Iceland.

Baubeginn 1945. Der Kirchturm wurde 1974 fertiggestellt. Erst 1986 wurde das Kirchenschiff vollendet.
Die Betonpfeiler verbinden mit den isländischen Basaltsäulen, die weiße Farbe erinnert an die Gletscher Islands.

Nice to see the yard relatively full as Providence and Worcester Railroad local PR-3 goes about their morning chores.
This view looks north into the yard just north of the High Street crossing at MP 6 at PW GP38-2 2008 (built new for the then only 7 yr newly independent road by EMD in Dec 1980). It's really amazing that this scene has been possible seemingly unchanged for more than four decades and counting. Don't take it for granted...
