"When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily
Oh joyfully, playfully watching me
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible
Logical, oh responsible, practical
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable
Oh clinical, oh intellectual, cynical!"

The incredibly beautiful staircase in the district court of Halle/Saale.
The building of the regional court was constructed between 1903 and 1905. It is one of the most representative buildings in the city in the typical, historicist style of Wilhelmine justice buildings. The architects of the four-wing building were the Prussian building officials Paul Thoemer in the Prussian Ministry of Public Works in Berlin and Karl Illert (1856-1907) in Halle. It has a wide double-tower facade facing the Hansering, which is decorated with portraits of legal scholars and animals and mythical creatures on the windowsills, among other things. The flanking towers are 50 meters high. Stylistically, it also combines forms of Gothic, Renaissance and Art Nouveau. In addition to the sandstone facade, the staircase with a double spiral staircase in a circular domed hall with a diameter of approx. 20 meters and a height of 42 meters is remarkable.

Detail of Sony Center's roof, electrified for Sliders Sunday.
Sony Center, a 132,500 m² building complex at Potsdamer Platz (located across the Berliner Philharmonie), consists of several buildings of which the main complex was designed by Chicago-based architect Helmut Jahn. It was opened in 2000.
Sony Center's impressive 3,500 m² roof spans the entire patio, the so-called Forum. The spectacular roof construction consists of safety glass and translucent fabric panels which are attached by tie rods to a steel ring that rests on the surrounding buildings. The roof's shape represents Japan's Mount Fuji. In Japanese mythology, the Kami – holy powers or spirits that are worshipped in Shinto religion – live in the mountains. Since Berlin lies in a mostly flat region and has no real mountains to speak of, the roof's design was supposed to ensure the Kami's protection for Sony's European headquarters (today, Sony's German branch is located at Sony Center) by building them an artificial mountain to live in.
Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone!

We have a terrible problem in this area with people neglecting to weed their vehicles. They remember to weed the garden and even around their house, but the vehicles remain veiled in mystery. Perhaps if this Chevy van were weeded it could be sold. It doesn’t look too bad through all the vines and weeds. Offers anyone?

After a fire destroyed the original lodge in the winter of 1962, the two original lifts were removed in the 1970s. The BC government funded a new lodge on the ridge and an aerial tramway to the mountaintop from the valley below.
In 1976, new ownership funded a second aerial tramway, built by Garaventa, known as the Red Tram or Super Skyride which is one on the right. The larger tram cars (for about 100 passengers) arrive at a separate top terminal building a short walk from the lodge. The older Blue Tram, on the left, is now mainly used to transport supplies directly to the lodge structure.

Please Cry/ Bitte Lachen The Neue Nationalgalerie presents Barbara Kruger's first institutional solo exhibition in Berlin. The American conceptual artist has developed a site-specific text installation for the Neue Nationalgalerie’s upper-level exhibition hall, making use of the entire space. The work seeks to engage visitors in public discussion about political and social topics.
In an expansive text installation, Barbara Kruger combines her own texts with quotes by three authors ‒ George Orwell, James Baldwin and Walter Benjamin ‒ whose writings each address major political issues: the violence of totalitarian states, the mechanisms behind societal discrimination and the dangers of biased historiography.
Through the stark graphic impact of her texts, reduced to just three colours (black, white and red), Kruger succeeds in introducing her own artistic language into Mies van der Rohe’s massive building. Aside from the topicality of the texts and their subject matter, the invitation extended to Barbara Kruger to develop this work also pays homage to her outstanding artistic contributions, whose feminist and political approaches have strongly influenced the art of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Source: smb.museum
