Platô (Plateau) is the historic centre of the capital city of Praia on the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. Situated on a plateau overlooking the port, Platô is the historical and administrative heart of the city. Many public buildings are situated here, notably the Presidential Palace, the cathedral, the city hall and the Ethnographic Museum.
After getting a new crew at Hawthorne, IC #1021 leads an Iowa-bound G889 grain train past the 47.6 signal near Plato Center, one of the only IC-era signals left between Munger and Waterloo. Not too often do you get an IC leader on the old Iowa Division especially since the SD70s were assigned to the Kirk pool. A little birdie even flew over and knocked down the replacement signal for us. God was sure on our side that day.
It's sand sculpture season at Ludwigsburg again. This year's theme is Atlantis and in the next weeks I will show you some of the sculptures. I start with this one which shows the Greek philosopher Plato who told the story of Atlantis in his writings Timaeus and Critias around 360 BC.

The dark floored crater Plato dominates this image from the 22nd April. Many small craterlets are visible within.
The smallest of these craterlets are close to 1 km in diameter!
Plato itself lies sandwiched between the seas or Mare of Frigoris to its left and the very large Mare Imbrium filling the frame to its right.
Many relatively small craters are visible within the Mare Imbrium (as well as isolated mountain ranges) and Mare Frigoris.

Highballing Bongards, TCWR 2014 heads west through Plato. It's tough to get this train in daylight out here even on the longest days of the year.
