This Hoverfly has spent the night sleeping in this Jewelweed flower, and is just waiting for a bit more sunshine to dry it's wings out.

"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it."

The estate of Clement Studebaker in South Bend, Indiana. Designed by Chicago architect Henry Ives Cobb, the house remained in the Studebaker family until 1933. In the following years the mansion was the home of the Anerican Red Cross and a school for handicapped children.
We have always known it as Tippecanoe Place Restaurant which opened in the late 1970's, where we still enjoy having a fabulous dinner once in a while. The neighborhood is still very intact with many beautiful mansions from the Studebaker era, unlike nearby downtown South Bend which has been largely replaced with new buildings.
What is the difference between the transparency of space and the presence of place?
Inspired by Harry Gruyaert. photo; Ouarzazate.
For months I have been studying and shooting the transparency of space like Stephen Shore. Then I was introduced to this cat Gruyaret and his compelling embracing of empty place.
This is supposed to get easier not harder !!!!
The relationship between the runner and that car are vital to the structure of the center stage. While the people and poles at the periphery are important in creating the gateway to the back of the picture.
Today I returned to the place that I spread my big boy Milo's ashes. In the week since we have experienced 14 inches of rain, a destructive east coast low we haven't since the likes of since in the 1990's and finally the huge swells from a cyclone just off our coast. Nobby's beach has changed dramatically in that time. I kind of think the Good Lord took Milo's ashes out to sea in a way I could not.
My garden is my refuge and my happy place. I love to get my hands dirty, pottering about, pulling weeds, trimming and pruning. And I do go a bit crazy with colour - none of your minimalist green garden for me! Roses and other cut flowers are a bonus. These “Double delight” roses are one of my all time favourites.

“All events and experiences are local, somewhere. And all human enhancements of events and experiences -- all the arts -- are regional in the sense that they derive from immediate relation to felt life.
It is this immediacy that distinguishes art. And paradoxically the more local the feeling in art, the more all people can share it; for that vivid encounter with the stuff of the world is our common ground.
Artists, knowing this mutual enrichment that extends everywhere, can act, and praise, and criticize, as insiders -- the means of art is the life of all people. And that life grows and improves by being shared. Hence, it is good to welcome any region you live in or come to, or think of, for that is where life happens to be, right where you are.”
