PETER SAVILLE: is an internationally renowned graphic designer and art director. He first made his mark as a graphic artist designing record sleeves for Manchester based Factory Records, which he co-founded in 1978 alongside Tony Wilson and Alan Erasmus. Born in Hope Hospital, Salford in 1955, Peter spent his formative years living in Hale. Amongst others, he designed the record sleeve artwork for many of the Factory artists, most notably for Joy Division and New Order, as well as being responsible for the poster design for the Hacienda (FAC 51). Saville's trademark yellow and black striped design has become the unofficial civic colours of Manchester. Peter received a CBE in the Queen’s 2020 New Year Honours list.
GREATER MANCUNIANS is a Manchester College student led landmark photography project (supported by Manchester City Council). It features those people born, bred, or who have made their home within the current Greater Manchester boundary and who have in some way culturally shaped the city and its surrounding boroughs.
The project will be published and exhibited in a major city centre exhibition in 2021/22.

(The cover showed two people looking out of a window at mountains, which represented the pastoral themes of some of the songs. Whitehead had finished the cover and then the band added "The Knife" to the running order. Feeling that the cover no longer fitted the mood of the album, they asked Whitehead to re-design it; when he was reluctant to do so, the band members inspired him to slash the canvas with an actual knife.)

My ghost likes to travel so far in the unknown
My ghost likes to travel so deep into your space
All the slow clouds pass us by
Make the Empire State look high
As you take me in your sea-stained sweetness
It spills, it tingles and it stings
All the pleasure that it brings
'til the door has let the outside inside here
Well on the floor there's a long wooden table
On the table there's an open book
On the page there's a detailed drawing
And on the drawing is the name i took
My ghost likes to travel so far in the unknown
My ghost likes to travel so deep into your space

Lord, here comes the flood
We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again the seas are silent
In any still alive
It'll be those who gave their island to survive
Drink up, dreamers, you're running dry.

What's not to love? Hundreds of people all barging through the throng to get home.
Often when I pass through stations at this time of day it puts in mind the lyrics of the Peter Gabriel song 'I Have The Touch':
"The time I like is the rush hour, 'cause I like the rush
The pushing of the people, I like it all so much
Such a mass of motion, do not know where it goes
I move with the movement and, I have the touch."

The title is inspired by the lyrics to Downside Up by Peter Gabriel
I looked up at the tallest building
Felt it falling down
I could feel my balance shifting
Everything was moving around
These streets so fixed and solid
A shimmering haze
And everything that I relied on disappeared
Downside up, upside down
Take my weight from the ground
Falling deep in the sky
Slipping in the unknown
All the strangers look like family
All the family looks so strange
The only constant I am sure of
Is this accelerating rate of change
Downside up, upside down
Take my weight off the ground
Falling deep in the sky
Slipping in the unknown
I stand here
Watch you spinning
Until I am drawn in
A centripetal force
You pull me in
Pull me in
Pull me in
Pull me in
Pull me in
Pull me in
ovo ovo ovo
ovo ovo ovo
ovo ovo ovo
ovo ovo ovo
ovo ovo ovo
ovo ovo ovo
Downside up
Upside down
Take my weight off the ground
Falling deep in the sky
Slipping into the unknown

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing, stretching every nerve
Had to listen, had no choice
I did not believe the information
I just had to trust imagination
My heart going boom, boom, boom
"Son", he said, "grab your things, I've come to take you home."
Almost nailed it! Love this song.
Yorkshire capo on the 4th fret and the 7/4 time signature (switching to 4/4 and back?!) no longer scares me quite so much. The skull is just because it was Halloween :-D

This is Peter Gabriel at the SECC in Glasgow in June 2004, on his 'Still Growing Up' tour. He's inside a 'Zorb' which is evidently used in extreme sports for rolling down a mountain in. Mr. Gabriel is the first person I ever saw in concert and I would still have to say that he's my favourite musician.
in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes

"Nursery Cryme was the third studio album from Genesis, released in November 1971 on Charisma Records. It was their first album to feature drummer/vocalist Phil Collins and guitarist Steve Hackett."
It was a tad before my time but I caught up quickly.
A memorable music night at The Robin, G2 with a great sound, choice of material, stage presence and light show this was a performance as good as any
tribute band, my friends have been following them for years and I regret missing out on so many great performances.
The show was brought to my attention through a friend at my quiz night pub, we established over time that we shared the same friends from years ago when I played cricket for a pub team (we didn’t win any matches but we had a great time). And so after 20 odd years we made contact.
And a significant bonus has been the change of the last tram from Bilston which now means I can see the end of the show and make a leisurely walk to the station and wait with time to spare for the Birmingham tram. Before if I wanted to see the last number and encore I would have to drive across the West Midlands and stay off the beer.

PF Wish you were here - © Pink Floyd
Storm created this iconic cover for Pink Floyd's 9th Studio Album 'Wish You Were Here'
The album was recorded at London's Abbey Road Studios.
Whilst researching for the artwork Storm joined the band on their 1974 Tour and had given some serious thought to the lyrics, eventually deciding that the songs were filled with 'unfulfilled presence' rather than Syd Barrett's illness.
The Artwork was concealed in a dark coloured shrink wrap making the album artwork absent.
Album cover shows how people conceal their true feelings because they risked getting burned. 'Risked being burned' was also a common phrase in the music industry where artists were denied royalty payments.
To create this shot, two stuntmen were used (Ronnie Rondell & Danny Rogers). One work a fire retardent suit covered by a business suit with his head protected by a hood under a wig.
Whilst shooting the wind blew in the wrong direction causing flames to go in to Rondell's face, burning his moustache. The stuntmen had to change positions with the image being reversed later.
lost my time lost my place in
sky blue
those two blue eyes light your face in
sky blue
i know how to fly, i know how to drown in
sky blue
warm wind blowing over the earth
sky blue
i sing through the land, the land sings through me
sky blue
reaching into the deepest shade of
sky blue
sky blue so tired of all this travelling
so many miles away from home
i keep moving to be stable
free to wander, free to roam
train pulled out said my goodbyes
sky blue
back on the road alone with the sky
sky blue
there’s a presence here no one denies
sky blue
sky blue so tired of all this travelling
so many miles away from home
i keep moving to be stable
free to wander, free to roam
i can hear the same voice calling
crying out, from my heart
and that cry, what a cry
what a cry, it’s going to be
if i can stop to let it out, oh.
