Although I took this shot on Saturday when the storm rolled in, the Anna's Hummingbird is still taking advantage of its personal butt warmer. I don't know where it goes at night, but it knows it has a warm place to sit during the day on a Christmas light bulb. Tomorrow they are predicting more snow and ice rain. I'm sure it will come around again. There will finally be above freezing temps on Wednesday afternoon.

This old barn is no longer of any use to a present day farmer but for an old man living his days out in an assisted living facility the barn is erect, full of animals and the pride of his personal remembrances.

Personal Cinema is a way for me to look back on the images and tell the story behind some of the ones that have moved me and that have some insight to offer into how it came to be. These images really have become my personal cinema, frames from my life living here in Poland, stories that move me. I hope you enjoy this series.
You can read the entire piece and story at my blog. Here is an excerpt.
"One of the images that is directly linked with my image "This Morning" is this one. This was actually an accident if you can believe it.
As described in the previous post, this actual morning was something of both inspiration and revelation. New to the city of Poznan and pretty new to Poland, I had never seen sunrises like this one or none that moved me particulary and to say that this one "moved" me would be a little soft. I was &*^%#@# heart racing floored. You can add whatever expletive that works for you.
When I stood in the middle of most Teatralny, mouth probably agape, I shot with my heart and lost the time in between. These are the colors that I would see in movies and in pictures from other people's lives, certainly not mine...or so I thought. I did the daring thing to take a chance and stand in the middle of the street for the first time and captured the scene that moved me."

"Reach out and touch faith
Your own personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who cares
Your own personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who's there
Feeling unknown
And you're all alone
Flesh and bone
By the telephone
Lift up the receiver
I'll make you a believer
Take second best
Put me to the test
Things on your chest
You need to confess
I will deliver
You know I'm a forgiver
Reach out and touch faith
Reach out and touch faith
Your own personal Jesus...
Feeling unknown
And you're all alone
Flesh and bone
By the telephone
Lift up the receiver
I'll make you a believer
I will deliver
You know I'm a forgiver
Reach out and touch faith
Your own personal Jesus
Reach out and touch faith"
Northern gannets, (Morus bassanus) squabbling over space on the cliffs at Bempton RSPB bird reserve in East Yorkshire, UK. The guillemots, (Uria aalge) looking on from the ledge just above are presumably used to the occasional argy-bargy and noise from the frequent but short-lived squabbling.

"Même quand le vent souffle
Même quand ça nous touche
Il faut faire avec
Il faut y aller
Même si ça nous blesse
Même si c’est l’ivresse
Sans jamais savoir sur quoi compter
Sur quoi compter
Si tu n’es pas sage
Si tu n’as pas l’âge
Tu n’auras que tes
Yeux pour pleurer
Tu as le message
Fais-en bon usage
Ne laisse personne te baratiner
Te baratiner
On nous a tant et tant trompés
On nous a tant et tant aimés
On nous a tant et tant
Tant et tant
Paralysés
Même quand l’avalanche
Démolit les branches
Restent les racines
Reste l’orée
Seul dans la tourmente
Seul dans la soupente
Rien à se faire pardonner
Faire pardonner
On nous a tant et tant trompés
On nous a tant et tant aimés
On nous a tant et tant
Tant et tant
Paralysés
Debout dans l’orage
Même si le courage
N’est pas tous les jours
Au rendez-vous
Même quand le vent souffle
Même quand ça nous touche
Et nous laisse aux lèvres
Un goût salé
On nous a tant et tant trompés... "

The "Blokker", a wip mill, pierces through the mist at sunrise. A mill has been standing on this spot in the Kinderdijk at least since 1542. The current windmill most likely dates from 1633 and was restored after the fire damages from 1997.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. Given some high contrast processing and a tilt, I just loved the sense of isolation from the world around her and her need to be further isolated with headphones. Although it does look a little like she is playing the air guitar. Enjoy!

I found this little lake & jetty in the middle of nowhere off the beaten path. It is an amazing little gem very quiet with not a single other person in sight, I actually just sat here at this scene for over half an hour just relaxing and thinking.
I just could not resist shooting directly into the sun again!
Hope you enjoy! Please favourite & add me as a contact to view my newest upcoming works, Thank you

In September 2015, I was scouting out and photographing numerous sites around Lake Tahoe, California and many sites in the Eastern Sierras for a short 5 days.
One the night of September 17, I took the Bonsai Rock Milky Way shot with the moon just above the distant mountain peaks.
The next day we moved down into the Eastern Sierras where I had been planning to photograph the iconic bristlecone pine tree with the Milky Way. Little did I know on the way down how well the moon would come into play with my night sky photography work there.
I used a long established technique to get the moon rays in this shoot while I light painted the bristlecone pine tree with my special light.
In 2017, I will have two 5 day Milky Way photography workshop in Arches National Park in Moab, Utah, one over the 3rd week in March and one over the 3rd week in April.
During each of the two workshops, I will conduct 3 4+ hour Milky Way Photoshop post processing session where I teach all the techniques I used to create this final photo but this time it will be more of what is called a "Deep Dive" PS post processing session and workshop participants will need a laptop with Photoshop CS 2017. Lightroom will work but lacks some functionality used in what I will teach.

My Milky Way night sky photography workshops
In 2017, I will be leading two 4 day photography workshops in Jackson Hole. During both workshops, I will take my group out for 3 nights of my Milky Way night sky workshop.
My 2017 4-5 day photography workshop schedule:
ANP, Canyonlands & Monument Valley - March 24-29
Icons of the Southwest w/Ryan Smith - April 23-28
Jackson Hole, Wyoming spring - June 21-25
Jackson Hole, Wyoming fall - September 19-23
The great part is that in 2017 I will return to Jackson Hole for the incredible wildflowers throughout the valley and the surrounding mountains.
Do you shoot the Milky Way but need a little help in getting the Milky Way to jump out of your photos ? If so, take a look at my ebook A Photographer's Milky Way Processing Guide - A Photoshop HowTo

Time to chill out to Adele's song ... Hello.
Thanks for stopping by.
Last night I dreamt Jesus and I walked along a beach.
"Jesus," I said, "you're black? I thought that was a Hollywood cliche. I figured you didn't have a race--you were just the essence of forgiveness or love or something."
"Nope, I'm black. My son, I'm concerned about the path of your life. You used to help the less fortunate. You used to devote yourself to causes. Now you just pursue money. What happened?"
"Jesus, I'm not sure I ever cared about those causes or if I just wanted to aggrandize myself. I mean, I care but it's secondary to making my own life better. And it's a distant second."
Jesus nodded understandingly.
"Everyone wants to improve their lot, Jesus. But materialists are at least honest about it. Given that you've built us with this self-preservation that trumps other concerns, maybe the most we can hope for is to not be a hypocrite. And to make enough money to enjoy the world you've built for us. It does take money, Jesus, no matter what anyone says."
Holding his hands behind his back as we walked, Jesus was the model of the thoughtful listener. "Mmm-hmm. There was an element of egotism to your works. But in sum you may, eventually, have been able to make some difference, even if small."
"The ends justify the means, Jesus? Is that the creator's philosophy?"
"Oh no. Look around," he said, gesturing to the sky and the water and the sand. "My father was a dadaist. And maybe," he concluded, probing a wound in his wrist absent-mindedly, "a bit of a sadist."

unseen elegance - baz Feb 2015
You see her tousled and knotted hair falling in her face,
But I focus on the soft melody she hums to herself
as she paints the world.
You say that her eyes squint too much when she laughs,
But I find beauty in the way they flicker when she
gets my jokes.
You say she reads too much and should get outside more,
But I see her brilliant mind twisting around concepts
of beauty and truth.
She is flawed in all the right ways.
