East coast of Canada on Prince Edward Island situated on Point Prim over looking Hillsborough Bay is a very well kept lighthouse

Taken last spring at Cavendish Beach, PEI just before sunset.

Taken with Canon 6D.

Prince Edward Island is known for its rich, red soil (and potatoes!) Beautiful province to visit

Why is the soil red?

The Island is formed from sedimentary bed rock of soft, red sandstone which produces the rich, red soil. The redness of the soil is due to the high iron-oxide (rust) content.

The old grist mill in Hunter River, Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Built in 1876 the Wood Islands Lighthouse, PEI, served as the home for it’s first keeper James McMillan with the last keeper, Leon Patton completing his tenure in 1990.

Keepers maintained the light which served as a navigation aid to marine traffic in the Northumberland Strait and fishing boats in the Wood Islands harbour. 1940 marked the start of its use as a coastal light for the seasonal ferry operated by Northumberland Ferries Ltd. In 1958 the keeper’s dwelling and the lighthouse were wired for electricity which to this day, powers the 1000 watt revolving flashing light which is still in use.

Prince Edward Island is one of eastern Canada's maritime provinces, off New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The large island is marked by red-sand beaches, lighthouses, and fertile farmland, and is renowned for seafood like lobster and mussels.

Rahil pointed me to an article discussing Exposure Fusion (http://www.digital-photography-school.com/exposure-fusion-what-is-it-how-does-it-compare-to-hdr-how-do-i-do-it). This is the first result without modifying the default settings for the program, enfusion.

Low hills, not a great many trees, (mostly singly, in small groups, or rows), farm houses and buildings, country roads, telephone/power lines, and hedge rows (in this case that striking red dogwood), seem to be the main defining characteristics of the Prince Edward Island Landscape. This is the view down a secondary road near the town of Kensington north of Summerside. The winter snow really helps to emphasize the elements that I have listed, above.

A sample of the beautiful Victorian buildings in 'downtown' Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada's smallest - and quite charming - province.

Red lobster from Prince Edward Island (Summerside), made of cans, washers and old wrenches.

North-east coast, Prince Edward Island.

The island prides itself on selling -tshirts that say "PEI Dirt" and they have a red mud stain to them. They do have a lot of the red mud especially when the tide is out.
