PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) is one of the most under-recognized endocrinal disorders affecting nearly 10% of all women.
It is a disorder very complex in nature, with symptoms varying from woman to woman (a reason many women living with PCOS don’t realize they have it). It is marked by insulin resistance, polycystic ovaries, and an excess production of male androgens, typically resulting in depression, acne, hirsutism, weight gain, and infertility.
Living with PCOS since puberty and diagnosed in the spring of 2004, I’ve never publicly spoken about what it’s like to live with the symptoms of PCOS (I’ve been touched by all listed symptoms above to some degree or for some time), primarily because of the fear of social stigmatism, which is what causes so many women living with the symptoms to silently suffer.
For several years I tried to ignore it and avoided treatment, not wanting to believe that I would have to daily battle something for which there is no cure. Within the last year, I received my wake-up call as symptoms began to worsen and I began to realize the urgency of taking charge before things got really out-of-control. I started treatment and began educating myself through reading and support message boards (soulcysters.net).
I’ve felt a burden to speak out and create awareness in any way I can. As mentioned above, nearly 10% of women suffer from PCOS in some way, making it one of the largest hormonal problems in women, yet few people know the disorder exists. Many women go untreated. Personally, one of the most frustrating things that I hope to help change by the spread of awareness is the fact that even though it is such a great problem, there is little financial assistance available, insurance rarely covering prescriptions.
A sincere thanks to those who have read… I’ve never been great with words, so for more clarity please visit the FAQ page at projectpcos.org ( here).

Ricovero comando artiglieria.

Artillery command shelter. This room, parallel to an identical one, was designed to be occupied by the artillery observatory (both optical and radar) command. As far as I know, this was the only bunker among all the defence structures to see this infantry-artillery cohabitation.
Accross the door, one of the two rooms to be used as sleeping quarters. To the left, the corridor to the infantry opera command part of the bunker.
Shot in candlelight, then white-balanced.
