The difference between PCB and PCBA

PCBA refers to a processing process in general, and can also be understood as a finished circuit board, that is, the PCB board processes are completed before the PCBA production.

 

PCB refers to an empty printed circuit board. There are no parts on it. In a nutshell, PCBA is a finished board; PCB is a bare board.

   

It turns out the decoder board is too wide! Specs put it at a smidge over 16 mm while the space inside the body measures 14.5 to 15 mm. So the decoder won't fit. When the body is put back on the decoder board jams on the inside of the body shell, so the TCS DP5's are not suitable (despite being the one IDR models recommends).

 

As you can see, the 8 pin header is towards one edge of the board not the middle.

Mech is from my old 1990's detailed AR Kit Co NSW 45 class model the had the body adapted to suit the Atlas mech that was the bee's knees at the time.

 

Just like with the other loco I've tried out the DH187 + PX108 combo on (a NSW 40 class model based on an Atlas RSD-4/5 mechanism), the motor control is quite 'surgey' and not smooth like what the modern Lokpilot and Loksound decoders from ESU can so.

The safety distance between the PCBA board and mounting PCB in the enclosure includes electrical clearance (space distance), creepage distance (distance along the surface), and insulation penetration distance.

 

I. PCBA board and the circuit board enclosure of the electrical clearance requirements: electrical clearance refers to the two adjacent conductors or a conductor and the adjacent motor shell surface along the shortest distance measured by air. According to the measured working voltage and insulation level, the distance can be decided.

 

II. PCBA board and circuit board enclosure creepage distance requirements: creepage distance refers to the two adjacent conductors or a conductor and the adjacent motor shell surface along the shortest distance measured by the absolute insulation surface.

 

III. PCBA board and circuit board enclosure insulation penetration distance requirements: it should be in accordance with the working voltage and insulation application occasions in line with the following provisions.

 

For working voltage not exceeding 50V (71V AC peak or DC value), there is no thickness requirement.

 

The minimum thickness of additional insulation should be 0.4mm.

 

When the reinforced insulation is not subject to any mechanical stress at the normal temperature that may lead to deformation or performance degradation of the insulation material, the minimum thickness of the reinforced insulation should be 0.4mm.
