Old mushroom, taken over by another fungi, probably ‘Spinellus fusiger’, commonly know as 'the bonnet mold' of in Dutch ‘knopschimmel’.

“Bonnet mold (EN)

Spinellus fusiger, commonly known as the bonnet mold, is a species of fungus in the Zygomycota phylum. It is a pin mold that is characterized by erect sporangiophores (specialized hyphae that bear a sporangium) that are simple in structure, brown or yellowish-brown in color, and with branched aerial filaments that bear the zygospores. It grows as a parasitic mold on mushrooms.

During the reproductive phase of its life cycle, Spinellus fusiger grows throughout the cap of the mushroom host, eventually breaking through to produce radiating reproductive stalks (sporangiophores) bearing minute, spherical, terminal spore-containing structures called sporangia. Ultimately, the spores in the sporangia are released after the breakdown of the outer sporangial wall, becoming passively dispersed to new locations via wind, water, and insects.” - source: en.wikipedia.org

“Knopschimmel (NL)

- bron: www.soortenbank.nl

...and you thought we are past Dark Ages already!

Strobist Info: 580 EXII with 1/4th +0.7 in front of camera into the ceiling. 420 EZ attached to my arm in each shot and flashed against the background with 1/4 th to whiten it out. Was inspired to do a square composite by brookeshaden, who wrote a very cool article on how she uses square as the perfect format and how she manages to increase picture size by cropping...

This one here has nearly 30 MP as well.

And yes if you ask yourself who won that fight: Me!

Turns out this is my 100th shot that ended up in Explore at some point:

As of February 15th: #1. Thanks!

"In Between:" Sometimes we might feel like we are in various stages of limbo and uncertainty, but knowing there might be a shift between what came before and what lies ahead. Particularly lately, when events have been postponed or cancelled, it might seem like it is hard to plan. But often when we feel forced to pause our lives, we in fact find ourselves doing more than just passively waiting. The in-between times in nature, for example, show us how these beautiful rock structures in Sedona became formed between many years and between different forces of erosion, and they show us how the light dances upon these red rocks between the clouds, highlighting different shades of reds and oranges like a roaming spotlight traversing their walls. At the time, I myself was waiting for sunset, hoping for spectacular color, when in reality, this moment was the most beautiful color I saw that evening. Maybe if we truly think about it, life really is all about the moments in between.

The amatuer photographer dad will from time to time encounter varying levels of hostility concerning the photographic process from his subject. The best way of handling such encounters is for the photographer to remain calm, to respond with gentle, encouraging statements and to continue to push the shutter button quietly, [Actually, the 10yrold is mostly a good sport about dad's hobby.]

Khumbu shares his enclosure with Sammara who if she was a domestic cat I would say she would be a torti, full of attitude. Khumbu is laid back and lets her get her way most days but this isn't the first time I have seen him give her the snarl look as she walked by.

What We Want

What we want

is never simple.

We move among the things

we thought we wanted:

a face, a room, an open book

and these things bear our names—

now they want us.

But what we want appears

in dreams, wearing disguises.

We fall past,

holding out our arms

and in the morning

our arms ache.

We don’t remember the dream,

but the dream remembers us.

It is there all day

as an animal is there

under the table,

as the stars are there

even in full sun.
