Have a terrific day, everyone...

We've had a lot of cloudy days this summer where the sunset wasn't much. But here is the best that I was fortunate to catch. The one on the right was the colours as you looked behind with the sunset glow on the bushes. HMMM

Hiked to Welch-Dickey Loop (4.4 miles) in NH. The New England foliage is in full bloom. Palettes of fall colors are underneath.

The autumn palette of the woods

IC1396, better known as the Elephant Trunk Nebula is a combination of dust and ionized interstellar gases located about 2400 light years from Earth in the constellation of Cepheus. The image shown here is using a natural color palette. The redder regions having higher concentrations of Ha and SII gas, the blueish/gray regions being made up of primarily OIII gas. The star color is from RGB broadband at 60 second exposures, and the narrowband nebula detail are 900 second captures for a total of 48 hours of acquisition time.

Love big sky's, lazy photography as the sky does all the work but I'm not complaining

This is a freehand painting [no photo involved]. It was an experiment - I selected a palette of certain colors, chosen from a painting whose 'atmosphere' I liked. I then used those colors - and only those - to paint the scene. Normally I would have actual greens and blues, and plenty of them - but here I had to use just what was available.

I based my scene on a real place - Scafell Pike on the Wastwater in the Lake Distract of England. The painting program I used is called 'Paint'. I then adjusted the tones and darkened them, increasing the contrast.

The midday sun shines its soft light on a small town on the Vesterålen islands, with an almost completely frozen and snow-covered lake in the foreground.

Fall palette of colors along a cliff in southwest Colorado.

A spectacular array of colors adorns the hills of Artists Palette in Death Valley. The colors are caused by oxidation of various metals found in the rock. If you zoom in you might be able to see about a dozen people hiking or sitting in the area waiting for sunset.

...a soft palette of colours on a fall hike.. Happy Tree-mendous Tuesday!

On my palette today, I was left with this residue of paint. At first I was thrilled by the colours, but then I discovered a galloping animal. A bull, or what do you see?

Such a perfectly named feature, the variety of colors in these eroded hills in Death Valley come from volcanic deposits of iron oxides and chlorite.

Creating an effect like an artist with a palette knife, the rising sun slathers color across a rich canvas of layered clouds east of Boulder, Colorado.

In late December a raging prairie fire swept through this very spot, driven by 100+ mile per hour winds and fueled onward by the general lack of snow cover that might have otherwise slowed it down. I haven't returned to this vantage since the fire, and there is a strong possibility that the house you see here in the distance no longer stands. Over 1000 homes were burned, and I think everyone in the local community knows someone who lost something.

A closer view in Manarola, one of Cinque Terre’s charming villages in Italy, where pastel-hued houses climb the lush terraced hillsides, blending perfectly with the green landscape and Mediterranean skies.

Last one from Holkham the other night (probably), last light before the sun dipped behind a bank of clouds.

The coming of autumn can be seen on the main tree next to the well in front of the main hall. It is called "Tree of Flowers"「花の木」. It is also referred to as "Flower maple" and only 500 trees of its kind in Japan. It is designated as a natural monument. The autumn leaves turn red from the top of the tree down. There is a period from early November to mid-November when the top of the tree is red, the middle is yellow and the bottom is green. (Source:

The edge of Palette Springs that broke off a few years ago. Water flows from springs above and down a steep ridge, creating a colorful hillside palette of brown, green, and orange (the colors are due to the presence of different heat-tolerant bacteria). This effect is much the same as an artist would achieve by allowing wet paint to run down a vertical surface.

still so many more Holi shots, if you want to see them all I have put up an album over on my Facebook page ... www.facebook.com/photographybybytegirl

Death Valley shot at the worst part of the day, oh well.

The midday sun brings out a palette of colors on and along the Flint River, as it bisects Richfield County Park, December, 2025.
