The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool will be holding an exhibition of my photographs 13 May to 25 September 2011.

The pictures were made in the city in 1975. I am very keen to find the people who I photographed then, with a view to possibly photographing them again.

Do you recognise yourself, your relatives or your friends in these pictures? Please get in touch if you do through my website www.paultrevor.com - remember to quote the photo reference number.

More photos will be added all the time so keep checking back.

It's always during exam time that I come up with an idea for a photo. So typical.

I took this by holding a glass infront of my camera, the colours are all my revision post-it notes on the window.

Anyone know what the P stands for?

Feel free to follow me on Twitter. You stalker.

Republic P-47D Thunderbolt in the Royal Air Force Museum Hendon. it is marked up as KL216 RS-L of of No 30 Squadron RAF, which operated the Thunderbolt in Burma 1944-1945. This particular aircraft is ex-USAF 45-49295 and was delivered in 1945. It never saw front line action during WWII and after a period of storage it was supplied to Yugoslavia in 1952. It was acquired by collector Doug Arnold in 1973 along with another airframe and subsequently changed hands a further number of times, ending up Royal Air Force Museum, Hendon.

The object above and behind is the control car forward section from the R.33 airship, completed in 1919.

PZL P.11c was the Polish "gull wing" fighter plane which took part in the defence of Poland in September 1939. The exhibit on display, belonged to the 121st Fighter Escadrille (the squadron's emblem was the "Winged Arrow") of the 2nd Air Regiment in Kraków.

Today, this aircraft is considered as the most precious exhibit at the Polish Aviation Museum, but not only because of its material value. It is the only saved Polish fighter from the September 1939 campaign, the symbol of the Poland's lone struggle against the German Luftwaffe.

This very plane at the exhibition, was stationed at Rakowice Airfield in Kraków - exactly on the premises of today's Polish Aviation Museum. In 1939, it was flown by Lt. Wacław Król who claimed two victories (Henschel Hs-126 on 1st September, and Heinkel He-111 on 5th September - both victories confirmed after the war as the kills shared with the other pilot).

The PZL.11 fighters were of a later generation of fighters that Zygmunt Pulawski began to work on in 1929. After the successful PZL.7 fighters, Pulawski made improvements to the design, thus the PZL.11 was born. Poland's air force had some of the most advanced aircraft the world had yet seen. Romania was one of the countries that contracted Państwowe Zakłady Lotnicze for these fighters.

By the time the European War began with the German invasion of Poland, however, these fighters were terribly obsolete, and unfortunately PZL.11 remained Poland's main fighter aircraft due to the delays with the new PZL.50 design.

By 1 September 1939, the fighter squadrons had been deployed to remote airfields, so they were not bombed by the Germans (121st Fighter Escadrille was moved to the Balice airfield, when today the Kraków Airport is located). During the Polish campaign, the P.11 fought against more modern German bombers and fighters. Not only were the German Messerschmitt Bf 109 and Bf 110 faster and better armed, but also most German bombers were faster.

Since the P.11 fighters had seen years of intensive use before the war, their maximum speed was even lower than the theoretical 375 km/h. Another serious deficiency was their small number which meant that missions involving groups larger than about 20 aircraft were rarely undertaken and reserve machines were practically unavailable.

On the other hand, the Polish fighter aircraft had better manoeuvrability and because of their design, had much better vision from the cockpit than the German aircraft. The P.11 had a strong construction, good rate of climb and could operate from short fields, even rough ones. It was also of a very durable construction and could dive at up to 600 km/h without risk of the wings falling apart. Theoretically the only limit in manoeuvres was the pilot's ability to sustain high g forces.

Despite the German superiority, the P.11 managed to shoot down a considerable number of German aircraft, including fighters, but suffered heavy losses as well. The exact numbers are not fully verified. A total of 285 German aircraft were lost according to Luftwaffe records, with at least 110 victories credited to the P.11 for the loss of about 100 of their own.

The most effective P.11 pilot was Stanisław Skalski who claimed six victories, of which four are confirmed.

When the German victory was no longer in doubt, many Polish pilots flew their aircraft to neutral countries and made their way to the west, to continue the fight. The skill and tenacity of Polish pilots would be well used in RAF Polish squadrons during the rest of the war. Most of them had learned their skills in the P.11.
